Have to agree there is a lack of decent shoes for flats, especially when it comes to winter. I currently use sme Vans skater shoes which have excellent grip on flats but they soak water up like a sponge. Will have to find something better for this winter

The main benefit for me of getting rid of the big ring was being able o fit a chain device. Since that’s on the chain hasn’t come off once which did happen often enough halfway down a decent which messes the flow up if you have to stop and put it back on. Not very often have I felt the need for extra gears and then it was only on boring road bits between singletrack sections

What’s so special about this saddle that it’s worth having but can’t be ridden in the wet?

Make sure you punch any nail heads that are sticking up before sanding of they will tear up your sandpaper

It’s nothing to do with fashion. I took mine off as I never used it and replaced it with a chain device and bash which I get much more benefit from. Weather you need a big ring will depend on your style of riding and terrain / type of trails. I dont tend not to peddle when going downhill as I’m standing up to absorb the bumps etc. I don’t use the granny ring much now these days but it may as well stay there for now as there isn’t that much benefit in taking it off

Was there yesterday, car park full of people but didn’t see that many on the trails considering. Normally a popular place on weekends

You may need new (shorter/longer) chain ring bolts depending on your bash ring.

Love the 800 now I’ve learnt how to use it properly. Not that it’s that hard anyway but once you customise the display, map etc it’s a lot better. I use mine with Garmin Basecamp, does everything I need it to.

I don’t read the Sun, or any newspaper for that matter but I can’t see anythng wrong in them publishing it. They are there to sell newspapers, make money etc like any other business. It’s all over the internet anyway. Good on Harry for having some fun like any young lad, but he has to remember that what he does may end up in the news.

By the time the air is released into the tyre it’s nowhere hear 50 psi. I meant I pump the coke bottle (ghetto tubeless inflator) to around 50psi before releasing the kink

Had my first go on tubeless (using stans conversion kit) today and used the ghetto tubeless inflator. Both wheels worked first time with no hassle. 50psi did the job for me

Do you have a desk job? Try not leaning on it so much and it should get better. I had something similar a while back

i often have an ‘off’ of some varying degree on most of my rides. Some are comical, stupid and embarassing but rarely result in injury

service it yourself and you’ll learn what you need to do when something goes t*its up out on the trail. I like tinkering though.

You could get away with non-specialist tools. I stripped my rear Pro 2 down on the weekend using nothing more than a socket set (to replace a broken axle). CRC will sell replacement bearings and seals and some specialist tools if you think you need them. Videos on Hope website. HTH

edit: you will need the correct tool (lock ring tool) for unscrewing the cassette, and a chain whip tool thing would be handy too
