Thanks for the replies. Battery is around 18 months as i said. Done around 70 miles since yesterday, lights still on. Not had a chance to get diagnostic check done but on past experience these can be expensive with little or no results

    rims / wheels

something must be on to drain the battery … maybe the glove box light

we checked everything and we didn’t find anything that was on. Even if there was theres nothing to explain the new warning lights?

Remove the valve core on the outlet valve on the inflator as well as on the rim

May need a bleed if you’ve shortened the hose?

Yeah does it all a lot quicker. Ghetto inflator works a treat

Flows are very tight ime and gies up easily with track pump, my mavic rims ( non ust) are very loose in comparison and not a hope in hell to inflate with track pump

If theyre that loose i think your wasting time trying to inflate with just a track pump.

I’ve got one and use it as a headlight with a more powerful light on the bars. I have used it in its own and it’s ok but if you’re doing a lot of night riding you may feel you need another light to go with it. Always good to have two lights anyway due to shadows and if one breaks. Battery life is ok, probably around 1.5 hours on full- I have two if the smaller batteries (so 1.5 hrs per small battery). If mounting battery to helmet the small ones are probably better due to jess weight, but you can stick it in the camelbak too. The review in that link above is accurate in terms of beam pattern and throw.

The lights are well made, but with good cheaper alternatives about these days I’m not sure I’d buy another at the current price. If your on a budget I’d rather get two cheaper lights at £80 each and have one headlight and one on the bars

My tyres are so loose I’m surprised they go up so easily, I use the ghetto tubeless inflator and only once it gas failed to work and that was because I was rushing. Never used washing up liquid either

No issues with my 1×10 setup:
    32t chainring
    36 cassette
    Xt clutch mech, medium length

there are a few short cuts yes, but you’ll only be saving a few mins.

If your taking the uplift fire road route up theres a straight bit of track (on the left hand side) going up and cuts the corner (about 10 mins into the climb) It can be a bit moist and muddy but should be ok now.

I can see why MatA does what he does, but personally I prefer to descend from top to bottom in one go. Descents feel a lot longer and more rewarding but at the price of a longer climb.

could they be anodised or does the non-aluminium bits make that impossible? Maybe a clear lacquer? Thinking of doing something similar with some old xt cranks

Brechfa might be an option then?

    In my order of preference…

The wall with a bit of bike park
Blade (if its been fairly dry a few days before)
    Whites
Penhydd (tame enough to do with the mrs)

Want a longer ride, then do the W2 or whites and blade

Not sure if skyline trail is open or not these days, if it was id consider it for a longer ride.

BPW is also not a long drive a way and could be an option for the 2nd day?

If you’re running a 32t a triple will be better as you don’t risk fouling the chain on the spider arms. The triple will also give you more options to run a bash if you wanted (although not impossible with a double).

Only benefit of a double IME is that it looks better. Some will mention about chain lines but I’ve got both setups on different bikes with no issues.

I’ve always done it clockwise as the Y Das trail was unrideable in either direction

why’s it unrideable, that’s one of my favourite natural descents?

It has been more or less completely sanitised

    gutted

amongst other things I’d buy land and make it more accessible to mountain bikers (and probably to other outdoor users), some id keep as natural trails, some id develop into trail centres, but with a proper range of trails

you can even skip hideout if you really want to by carrying on the fire road, round the bend and drop down into the next section (rocky something or other) on the left

id get a Blackspire- I would have if they werent sold out years ago when i was looking. There was someone on here selling a gamut in the classifieds, looked in good condition. I’d sell you mine (the roller bit) for a £10 but you’d need to buy a new roller for it. What size bash are you after?

    creamegg

I ran a gamut roller, similar to Blackspire on my five for a couple of years util the bearings went. Chain wasnt dropped once and you can use it with a bash guard of your choice. For the price I’d go stinger

I admit they (RQBC) feel very flimsy when off the rim compared to my schwabble tyres but then they are a lot lighter and, touch wood, i’ve never had any issues after years of riding mainly natural welsh trails and im not generally a mincer on the downs either 😆

Sure the climb is tough but if if you cant make it up then you have brought the wrong bike

    or the wrong legs 😆

Re the shock, now got a ccdb air on mine.
For anybody looking to do the same I’d suggest trying a push tune on the fox first, or maybe a monarch. The ccdba is a marked improvement, but I’m not convinced a good tune on the original shock would have been any worse and it would save a wee but weight/££ over the cane creek.

I think your missing the point of the ccdb. It allows the rider to custom tune the shock by turning a few screws. If your the type of rider that keeps the same setting all the time your not making full use of the benefits of the ccdb

    1. Two mins picking some strangly bits of dried sealant if you must
    2. Pour out or scoop and reuse in new tyre

10 mins per tyre, but it will depend on tyre / rim combo and the level of your man skills 😆

Edit… Why bother cleaning the inside of the old tyre? Wipe excess with a rag but no need to do any more than that.

I’ve got a set of tech 3’s v4’s which I’ve had since December and I really rate them. Best brakes I’ve used ( had other hopes in past as well as current shimano xt’s). They’re not cheap and the xt’s are prob better value for money but who cares about that? 🙂

The v4’s are their dh brakes but they do other variations too
