4 years on, used 2-3 times a week, inc through winter with zero maintenance: hope ceramic. If/when it eventually dies I’ll be getting another

No idea about erd but my Halo Chaos rims are solid, but a bit heavier than the flows. Id also consider the hope enduro rims

I think they’d fit ok but I’m not sure if the action of the two levers are the same, but that could be caused by the mechanics of the fork / lever so it could be worth trying. I’ve got both reverb and the xloc on the left hand side, both under the bar. A bit cluttered but seems to work ok

you just need yellow tape (or duck tape which I prefer) and some valves and fluid

edit. i.e. remove the existing tape and replace with couple layers of the yellow tape / duck tape or elec tape

(personally I found elec tape a bit fragile which could be an issue if the tyres are really hard to get on)

strip down, buy new pawl springs (and pawls maybe). regrease and build back up. Easy to do, follow vids on hope website. Will cost less than a tenner, maybe even less than a fiver and take 20 mins ish

I find it just as easy, if not easier than running tubes. Only had 1 puncture since converting (double spike through the tyre so nothing would have stopped that). Both sets of wheels go up with just a track pump now, saved loads of money on tubes and even more time of faffing about on the trail.
Mine are set up using Duck Tape, so for £2 a roll will set up around 8 rims so the cost is very small even with a bit of jizz every now and again. I can see its not for everyone though, especially if you have the spannering skills of a hippo

I find I have to plug and unplug it 2-3 times sometimes before it picks it up. Sometimes works first time though.

From vague memory youll have to wait until oct or novemberish, although that may only apply if you need planning and there is probably some allowance for emergency repair work

I found the uplift ok, managed 13 runs and would have managed another 1 or 2 if I didn’t bump into mates on non-uplift. The thing that slows the uplift down is people taking forever strapping their bikes onto the trailer, felt like I was waiting forever in the bus for people to stop faffing with the straps

Ive got a set of Hope Tech 3’s V4’s (one up from the E4’s) and they are amazing. Best brakes I’ve had. Ive got XT’s on my other bike, and despite being great value for money they are nowhere near as good as the Hopes.

For under a grand id be looking at a second hand bike, although my mate had a Boardman Team FS and he was happy with it, other than the poor Halfords build

Reverbs on both my bikes, oldest is 3 years and has been faultless with zero maintenance. Used 2-3 times a week inc through the wet muddy and gritty welsh winters. Wouldnt be without one now

You’ve got wheels already, they’re round, they spin, they work. Get a dropper, one of the best components on my bikes. Some people may not see the benefit but that’s down to the type of riding and trails. Everyone I know who has one doesn’t know how they managed before and all think why the hell did they resist getting one for so long and faffing all the time raising and lowering the seatpost manually.

My hope ceramic bb is still buttery smooth after 4 years constant abuse in uk conditions, 2-4 times a week. Not even looked at them or considered greasing them up until the other day when I thought I may as well as the cranks were off. Can’t comment on the other brands, but if and when they go, or I need bb for another bike I’ll be getting hope again.

When I bleed brakes, I take the lever off the bike and get the hose as vertical as possible and tap the hose to encourage trapped air to rise. Not sure if it makes any difference but I’ve rarely had any issues with any of my brakes.

I’ve got the v4’s with braided hoses which are similar to the e3’s. Loads of power but if your after light brakes id look at something different. Maybe xt / slx. The hopes are very nice though

I’ve got both. XT’s are excellent value for money, perform well but if I were to choose which I prefer.. I’d have to pick the Hopes

Nice video, was there Saturday, if only the descent was one continuous descent like in the video!

Was bone dry other than the odd 1 or 2 muddy puddle

my SDG is coming to the end of its life after 4 years constant abuse. Would like something a bit more exciting but hard to justify anything else as its very comfortable, hardwearing and good value

Red Bull don’t make it such. They are solely a promotion company, they spotted a lucrative market promote a cheap drink that was made in India. They came up with the name Red Bull and started promoting, the drink is part of that promotion.

    Yeah I’ve explained it badly.

    better explanation here

I’ve used Stans yellow tape and duct tape in the past and despite having both in my toolbox my preference now is for duct tape. Just find it more durable when levering really hard to get on tyres. Worked on a non-tubeless ready rim with just 2 layers and no rim strip. Cheap stuff from Clas Ohlson too at £2 a roll, has done 4 rims and still some left. Only faff is to cut it to size, which isn’t really any faff at all

I’ve recently gone from RQ Black Chillis front and back to Hans Dampf. RQ’s were good but as soon as it went muddy they clagged up and were useless. The HD’s are much heavier (think I’ve got the trailstar UST ones) but seem to perform really well in pretty much everything.
