ive travelled all over and never suffered from this and im sure its a myth so yes MTFU! However if you are suffering I’d have thought just go back into your normal routine as soon as you can, i.e. don’t have little naps until its actually bedtime

I like Bahco stuff but the halfords pro stuff is decent enough for the money too especially for bike maintenance

I dont mind adverts and happy to put up with them but stw is starting to look like the tacky websites from the late 90’s

We have, bank holiday + noise source being inside = no action at the moment

Id be surprised if they didnt have someone on call, and it being inside is irrelevant as they can get a warrant to break in and charge costs of locksmith and electrician to homeowners. My mrs is an environmental health officer and this is what she does on a daily basis.

If your LA dosent have out of hours service then not much you can do (legally)

The ccdb coil dosent need a propedal switch. You can tune it so theres virtually no pedal bob

Im not subscribed so cant get on my high horse or complain about the adverts, and i dont mind he adverts being there but there seems to be a glitch somewhere as some adverts seem to regularly float over half the screen making it very annoying and unusable and i doubt its been designed to be that way

I’m not finding baggies a particular problem regardless of length of ride. Had a SDG bel air for a number of years (until it finally fell apart) and found it very comfy, but then saddles are very personal. I do use chamois cream if im on a particularly long ride or if ive been riding a lot over several days

BPW do a pre-pay system now so you don’t have to carry money with you. Ive gone there without uplift and mixed it up by cycling up and paying for uplift as and when theres room on the van. Even if you don’t get a space you gat get quite a few runs in, managed 8 without any uplift.

Blade is ok, well most of it. There is one seriously boring pointless bit in it (IMO) which you can easily by pass, think its called Ghost train.

Cafall is ok, didn’t like it first time but its growing on me and there are some nice sections to it. If your looking for a full day out I’d do BPW or if you do Cwmcarn you can double up by doing Cafall & Twrch. Plenty of options at Afan too if your looking for a longer ride.

@Goldigger: Out of interest what lights do you make, if MTB ones, have you got a link to a website?

I went for the burly build too, and glad I did as it gets a ragging and I’m happy to accept a weight penalty for the benefit of solid parts.
My build is CCDB coil (ti spring), soon to be 150mm Pikes, Easton Havoc stem and bars, straightline pedals, Halo Chaos rims on hope hubs, reverb (essential IMO), and Hope V4 brakes, hope 32t chainring set up 1 x 10 with 11-36 cassette, xt chainset & shifter. May get the hope t-rex next

Ive built my five up burly so would go with:

    Flows
    1×10 32t 11-36, or with t rex or similar
Xt’s should be fine, but i prefer hope (v4’s on mine)
Hope ceramic… Mines going strong after 4 yeras
Straightline silent guide. Works perfect and has no moving parts, not cheap tho and works only with 1 x 10
    Med cage
    Get rid of front mech

Its important to set up the callipers so the pads are parallel with the disk and each pad the same distance from the disk. How this is achieved is irrelevant imo

Yes as long as you clamp it around the part of the post under the collar and don’t clamp the hose

Excellent tyre in most conditions but absolutely useless in the mud. Hans dampfs better all rounder ime although noticeably heavier

Another vote for Hans Dampfs (Trailstar), but not particularly light though, or fast rolling

Based on my experience of Reverb’s I’d go with the Reverb every time. Had both mine for 3 years and have worked perfectly without any maintenance at all other than a quirt of fork juice after every ride. (Ride 2-3 times a week, including throughout winter). Out of around 20 people I know who have Reverbs, none have had any issues. Out of 2 guys with the Lev, both have had issues. The only fault with the Reverb is the remote is fragile and liable to crash damage (even when mounted under the bar) and can be costly to fix. And Reverbs can be had on a regular basis (with bleed kits) for as little as £160. I even paid £130 for my last one (Planet X)

still happens on the newer maxle. Happened twice to me on the Hope Pro 2 (non-evo).

One phone call / email to hope and they’ll send you a replacement within 24 hrs free of charge (even though my hub was 4 yrs old… they didn’t even ask- fairly common problem so they are likely to sort out quickly)

I find his videos and riding very dull. Yes he’s got some skills but seems like many of his videos need a gimmick to make them entertaining, which in my opinion has back fired. I’d much rather see his bike skills applied to a trail or other challenging settings, I guess similar to Chris Akrigg’s videos. Ive found all his videos since the giant toy one very boring to watch and have never managed to watch them all the way through. The playboy thing doesn’t offend me, but I just cant see the point of it.

Biggest negative for me about Hope brakes is the CNCed lever blades, which aren’t at all ergonomic to squeeze IMO. Shimano win hands down on ergonomics.

As you say its down to personal preferences as i find the hope lever loads more comfortable than my shimanos.
