    Like the look of that Hot lap, Have considered getting a waist pack (I’m NOT calling it a fanny pack!) for shorter pootles, and I have Dakine hydration pack so know the brand is well made.

    Thanks for asking the question BRS :)

    I have been, shock horror, thinking of a road bike for a little while but maybe a gravel bike would be a better compromise for me?!?! (like the look of the orange space chicken!)

    I ride flats and baggies on the MTB and cant see me EVER riding clips and lycra,

    Have also played with the idea of trying bike packing later in the year as well…..

    Maybe I’m growing up!

    Caught the end of question time earlier, and Matt Hancock (Health Minister) said in answer to a direct question, it was ok to travel locally for exercise on your own or with your household. But did stress locally.

    So, does that clear anything up for people?!?!

    @TiRed, I’ll have to find that on i-player or whatever.

    I saw a facebook post earlier that basically sang Timpsons praises, and I’m seriously impressed!

    Stealth-ad, yeah good point!

    <span style=”font-size: 12.8px;”>It was a genuine question, although I t</span>hink I’ve decided to sell as the guys on the CBRG bookface page convinced me (probably!) with some good points, cos you lot are too slow!

    My mate gets first dibs as I know he might be interested in a full sus, but he asked those immortal words “How much?” and I went blank!

    Thanks Weeksy, not far off what I’d already guessed but I have no idea on 2nd hand pricing.

    @Cougar, might just be me being a bit daft, but that Next article doesn’t sound that bad? Volunteers only, and yes while not ‘essential travel’ it is work that cant be done from home and does keep, at least part, of the economy running, increasing the tax take from the company and may even help the other staff who dont go in and pick’n’pack to keep their jobs?

    Just saw a post on FB for the local Forestry England account by the Ranger.

    The forest IS NOT closed, but you cant drive there and have been asked not to drive nearby and park down the road instead.

    “…however the woods are still open for you to access”

    “its just that everyone will have to walk or ride to get there”

    As long as people are being sensible, a walk isn’t the end of the world we can exercise remember! (I know, I know, a lot of people aren’t being sensible…)

    Hopefully those walking and riding bikes for likely the first time in years will stick after all the craziness, especially in the better weather.

    (Partial) Success!

    Both headsets out, Uberbike on the Triple (was a bit squeeky bumhole as they didnt pull straight to start!

    Can do, but I cant buy the green cups any more as Uberbike don’t have them in stock and haven’t for a while so I cant have the bling on my Triple B! :(

    Yeah its gong back in the same cup but not sure if bashing the cup with the bearing still in it is a good idea!

    ^^ TJ has pretty much nailed it I think. Cannot be made redundant as the post is not a redundant position (cannot be refilled for 12months), and you would have applied for a job with a company with a location of X. If that location changes unreasonably they would need to as a minimum, pay a relocation package. While I’m not sure on the legality of that, it is the least I would expect.

    Two different scenarios there I believe. The first is two lanes merging into one, the second two lanes going to different places (eg the right-hand lane being “right turn only.”)

    While, yes, its different, people still do the same thing. Choose the shortest queue and wait til the last possible second to merge (usually with no indicators as well)

    crazyjenkins01
    Full Member

    Public Information ads to tell people that if a lane is closing and you need to filter, it’s more efficient to fill both lanes and merge in turn. I know that’s what the signs say but most people seem to think doing so is some great insults and an affront to the British love of queuing.

    Marksmen in towers to ‘discourage’ drivers who always take the lane with the shortest queue and then force their way in to the lane they actually want at the last moment causing chaos in the process.

    umm……

    The worst drivers – statistically – are young drivers. They’ve only just been tested. They know exactly what the rules are. They just don’t care. People who speed know they’re not supposed to, people who drink and drive know they’re not supposed to, people who drive on the phone know they shouldn’t. Test them all tomorrow and they’d all pass and the next day they’d carry on driving as they alway do.

    They are just the ones who get caught! And I bet a lot of drivers who have been driving for 10-20yrs, given a retest, with no additional lessons, would fail.

    So your are suggesting that having poor driving standards is ok so long as we make people pay when they do it 🙄

    (not having a dig at you, just language use)… how many times would you get caught speeding, paying fines and points before you stop?

    crazyjenkins01
    Full Member

    Regular compulsory retesting of all drivers. Every 5/10/15 years.

    I am trained/tested every 5 years for a licence to drive MEWPs and Telehandlers at work, when travelling at less than 10mph, in a fenced off site that has no public inside it.
    Why, then, is it OK to be tested once, often at a young age, to drive at speeds of up to 70mph for the rest of your life (unless medical grounds) surrounded by other road users?

    I’m having 2 so there! :-P

    More police, in unmarked cars/vans, with cameras looking for mobile phone use etc. More mobile speed cameras in unmarked vehicles at undisclosed locations, and hidden behind signs, trees etc. and no ‘extenuating circumstances/hardship’ let offs for those who end up losing their license.

    Thats kinda my thinking Cougar. Partly I want to see what the fuss is about, partly I fancy something I’ve not had before, partly I think it might reduce my “that was mine, where’s my phone”
    But I am also conscious that while biking is “me” time, and I’m not strictly on call, if my work phone rings out of hours its financially beneficial to me to answer it (very, some days!). So if I dont have to stop, bag off, find phone, call back and hope they aren’t engaged as they phone somebody else or someone else answered and is on their way, it’s good for me. If that call is a weekend, I can potentially earn enough in 2 calls to pay for the watch.

    Loads of input thanks guys.
    To be honest, I dont really think I can get what I’m after, so I’m compromising (read, spending more money on something more flash than I want!)
    The only bits I’m really after are strava, so my phone can be in the bag and therefore safer when I crash! and being able to answer phone calls without digging in my bag to find the phone. The rest is ‘nice to haves’. So far I’ve only really found the Galaxy Watch Active 2, Huawei Watch 2 and TicWatch Pro which gives me those 2 things, but obviously at the premium of price!

    Had to go to carphonewarehouse earlier, and the Samsung man was in! Really helpful and about 30mins later after loads on Q&A I might now be looking at the Galaxy Active Watch 2. Calls-check, Strava-check (he installed it there and then) android-check and I have a Samsung phone. Still considering the Ticwatch though, £45 saving…

    Thanks for all the input guys, appreciate it.

    @dknwhy
    yes I’m sure the call function novelty will wear off, but although it won’t happen often it’s to stop me missing out on ‘call-outs’ to work while on the bike. It’s a pain having to stop, hunt out the phone and call back so I dont miss out on the £££s!

    @SammyC
    I saw that, but as do says Wear 2 sorts that.

    @kiwijohn
    @PePPer, I’ll look them up.
    I’d be happy with a Samsung watch of some description as I have an A70 but no strava from what I gather.
    At the moment I’m pretty sure I’m leaning towards the Ticwatch Pro, but some others there worth a look!

    Just been reading up on the Ticwatch Pro. Seems to ‘tic’ (sorry!) all the boxes, anyone have input on that specific one?

    So I read back my OP and even I cant work out what gumpf I wrote!
    That’ll teach me for rushing between errands!

    So
    1. I think I’d like a smart watch
    2. It needs to be android
    3. Ideally I’d like to be able to receive calls, not just a notification of a call
    4. I’d like it to work with strava somehow
    5. I’d rather not need a remortgage to buy one!

    There, that’s better!

    @Drac, a mate has the Venu but is not exactly cheap!

    @Cougar

    Lot of people buy the ‘girls’ bossnut, due to colour. The only diferences are a slightly narrower bar, colour and there is a tiny ‘female’ symbol on the seat tube down by the BB.
    Cant go wrong!

    and a clause that says that an employee cannot choose to waive their rights (like, for instance, signing an employment contract which says they don’t want it). No matter how often you copy and paste the same text there is nothing, anywhere, that I can see which says that an employee is obliged to exercise those rights if they don’t want to.

    Cougar, I think this is were the point lies, and isn’t being explained very well.
    If an employee works in a capacity that stops them having their entitled rest period, while not officially (as in forms, contracts etc) waiving their right, they are PRACTICALLY waiving their right (each and everytime they work like this). It isn’t a blanket waiver, but a ‘daily waiver’ as it were. Its a Health and Safety issue, and so isn’t just there to protect the employee, but also those who may be effected by said employee.

    Pretty sure TJ is correct. Clue is in the wording. ENTITLED to 11 hours UNINTERRUPTED rest.
    I’m not sure how On Call effects this, however if you are expected to work on call (phone calls or go back to work premises) depending on the length of time this is (“5 min phone call, I’ll go home 5mins early tomorrow is reasonable”) you should have a company policy somewhere saying what you can do.
    Eg. I am never ‘on call’ but nature of my job, electricity supply industry, I may get a call, to my work mobile, 24/7 365 days a year, by the standby man (who is on call and paid for it). I do not HAVE to answer, but if I do and I return to work (which I would as if MY phone goes I’ll have to fix/investigate) Policy states that I can turn up to work late the next day, where appropriate (time of call, length of work etc) as ‘sleeping in time’ to ensure that while not uninterrupted, I am sufficiently rested if its a work day next day. If it is a non-work day next day, I am paid more overtime rate to reflect this.

    Edit: fat fingers…
    The opt out is for the 48hr average working week over the time period specified by your company, most use 17weeks.

    Looking at their Raptor chain ring, good price too. After a bit of faff worked out which one was needed (rear is non-boost) so I’m starting to get there!
    Just waiting on Uberbike to find out on when some rotors are back in stock and then I get a bling-y chain ring and upgraded brakes!

    That’s what I thought TomH but it doesn’t seem like that, hence mom post. I was going to stick with Uberbike, but as above…
