So if I’m reading this right, I can buy mapping software on an SD card (looking at the eBay £30 option) Which I can then view on a PC to plan routes & mark up a route on the map. Then stick the SD card in the Garmin and go play? But if I buy memory map I can only view and plot a route which can be saved onto the Garmin ( via cable I suppose), but then need mapping software on the Garmin in as well ( such as Garmin maps). And all these maps, except OSM are based on OS maps? I would like to point out my Garmin is still in the post.

I have seen garmin descover maps on eBay for about £30, can you use these on several devices? Has anybody bought one of these

What else is there then, apart from OSM (which I’m looking into)?

Get a one up components ring, it comes with bolt spacers so you can use your existing bolts. There was 20% off to just before Xmas as well.

It might be a 36(?), it’s the RAD cage that makes the difference TBH. No problems in shifting, the bolt spacers that came with the 32 ring sorted the chain line out as well. One Up components get my vote, the whole lot was about £80, pretty much the same as a hope ring and t-Rex . But you get the 16t cog, RAD cage and chain ring bolt spacers for the same price.

I have a 2008 pitch, did the 1×10 swap just before Xmas. XT cassette 11-34, medium cage SLX mech & b spec shifter and new SLX brakes. I went with the one up components 42 range expander cog because it came with a 16t cog as well, the 32 narrow wide ring came with spacers so I could use standard bolts and there was 20% off on their website so I used that for a RAD cage. It works a treat! Only issue is the B spec lever/ shifter combo. After a tree smash at Llandegla my lever broke, and I lost the small bolt which connects the shifter to the lever. The shifter is now useless (after 3 rides!). So I’m now going down the separate lever shifter route so I can’t happen again.

Forget posting for sale in the classifieds. If I want to shift something I check the wanted section. How about finding a buyer? It’s when you offer the exact item requested and get dicked about for it that pisses me off. Tried to sell some mallet 3’s as new, boxed. And was offered some tatty XT As a swap. I don’t clip in! That’s why I’m selling the mallets. Why would I swap them or a tatty second hand pair of pedals I can buy new for £10 cheaper than I’m selling mine for? Same with a pair of old school pikes, VCG £100 posted. Sold both on eBay no hassle and I got more than I was asking on here, and that was not a lot to people who were asking for these items? STW classifieds wast of time IMO. Never got a thanks for the X9 jockey bolt I posted out to some random for free either. I live in hope.

Poo, yes mine are just plain old round spokes. Why the f##k don’t they have a square/hex end at the bloody hub? A loose spoke on a expensive wheel set can’t make it a right off’?

Yep I’m with craigxxl. Had a go at letting go of some pikes and crank mallets on here, just messaged peeps in the wanted forum WHO wanted said items. I was offered sweet FA or offered swapsies for total crap. Sold both on eBay for considerably more than what I was asking for. Both times I posted photos, mucho plenty too. I you don’t want to pay what somebody is asking, a cheeky offer is ok. But there is a limit. Photos should be compulsory for sales IMO. No photo no ad.

Got a hope BB, the plastic seals are a bit pants. But the bearings are still sound, they just need some TLC to keep running sweet. I have re packed the bearings once in 2 years, when they do die, a few quid for new bearings. No probs. But if you want the best, king stuff is prob hard to beat. Shimano BB only lasted 3 months. I doubt king stuff is worth it thought. Im on 3 years with a cheap FSA headset, still fine. When it dose go all that’s required are new cartridge bearings. Nothing is fit and forget

Chris, I can’t find the cleat plates for the shoes. They are £5 at wiggle, do you want the £5 back for the cleat plates or a full refund. Sorry about this. I can still get them in the post to you today if you want.

You can use a 10sp shimano mech with 9 speed SRAM shifters apparently. The trick is to use a 6mm packer to lift the cable off the mech. So the cable bolt clamps the cable against the packer/ washer, which sits between the cable and mech. There was a thread on here a few weeks ago about it. Haven’t tried it yet, but intend to

Yep out last night, plan was to do a there and back up/down Nan Bield from kentmere. The rain stated just as we set off, by the time we started on the common proper the cloud had come right in and rain was trying to turn into sleet. We decided we were mad, turned tail and decided to have a go down HP plantation. After passing back through kentmere again and the usual Mr Watson mechanical faff. Clouds cleared, and we decided to make another attempt on Nan Bield. Sadly we only got about 3/4 of the way and the weather turned again. So we turned back just as it was getting dark and sessioned the rock drops on the final drop of the common. Wether cleared up agin by the Time we were back in the car.

That’s it pressed the button on a bear bones meths stove, monkii cage, terra nova tarp, myti mug, alpkit gourdon pack and a few dry bags. Just need a few bits of clothing, and I’m set. First mini trip next weekend can’t wait. Just need to decide where to go. Thank for the advice everybody. I will will report back how we got on.

Cheers for the words of wisdom, the any thing cage is massive. Monkii type cage it is then. I don’t have much space inside the frame ( specialized pitch), so I will have a look at the bearbones mechs stoves. Any pointers on meths volume required to boil a mystic mug (approx, I know there is many variables to consider) and best places to source wind shield & plastic meths container?

    craig5

Vorlich, is a trailstar a stove? I plan to pack a a bit of felt or other material inside the mug to prevent rattling. In fact I don’t really have a plan anymore (stove/pot/mug/type). I have given up trying to make a meths burner, so will probably use gas. My only definitive plan is to carry my cooking kit on the downtube using the bottle bosses. I don’t want to carry cooking kit in a small pack, can’t get it in a seat pack (due to reverb). And the bars will have sleeping bag/ down jacket on. So basically I need a suggestion for a mug that will carry a gas canister/stove and fit in a bottle cage type arrangement,

Ok, so just had a look at the monkii cage on the web, have you attached it directly to the forks? The review I’ve just read said the cleat/ qr fasteners come undone on roughy terrain?

I’ve had a look at the now TV box which is basically a cheap Roku box, I think it’s easy to jailbreak ( if I’m understanding things correctly). The little black box I have seen runs Linux. All looks good, what it want to avoid is downloading bogus programs which screw up my setup. Made a mess of Mrs5’s laptop trying to watch F1 on wizywig last wkend. Will xbmc allow easy access to torrent film downloads for a tech numpty like me? Is it easy to set up with a proxy server? Any recommendations for best proxy to use?

Mk808? What’s that then, a little black box. Can it record stuff like a PVR. What do you watch on it? Can you download films off the web onto it?

Ok sorry for the dodgy photos, the ifad is pants, they are an early set as they were available withe the 25mm front axel spacers for the enduro SL fork (2008 I think). Are these dt240 parts expensive/easy to get hold of? Going Enduro riding next week see.

+1 for Ullswater there and back, make sure you climb high and drop in on the BW above the Foot path though. It’s super tech both ways. I didn’t clear it all and it’s a hard fought 18k ish. I’m going back again. Grizedale BW stuff is amazing, the drop down to conistion being a high light (beware the fallen tree), the 3 sections down to Satterthwaite a blast (limestone slabs sketchy in the wet/damp) & breasty whore/nipple into ? (Sounds like/can’t remember what it was called). Start with the nipple bit, climb up back into the forest (to car park) then down to coniston then back up for 3 section BW to car. Been at a keg party all day (christening/F1 fest) sorry for lack of clear instruction . Whoooo Yeh. I’m hungry again.

I’m going to watch it on the web for free. And spend my smug money on a Enduro saddle that matches my Enduro bar hanger.

Pay per view is where F1 is going, for all races soon. If this interweb blag doesn’t work, I’m going to give up F1 completely. I wonder how many F1 fans will do the same who can’t afford sky or won’t pay about £20 a race to watch it (£20 a race @ (£50-£20 for internet / 17? Races). F1 is sold to the highest bidder by Bernie across the world, just look at the empty stands in many of the new venues, when popular venues have been dropped. I wonder what the viewing figures are for skyF1 compared to BBC F1?

Try wiziwig Internet TV. Not used it myself but just found out about it at the weekend. Sister inlaws BF watches sky football on it, motor GP. He is sports mad. Also uses a “VPN” so he can watch I player etc in Poland (where they live), so I will be doing that as well on holiday. I’m going to test it on Saturday for the qualifying, if it doesn’t work. I will see you in the pub. I agree getting sky just for the F1 is a waste of money and hate Bernie & the BBC for selling us out.

It’s wicked, only encountered one tree down. Can’t remember what the section was called, heading down to consistion I think. Some very deep mud there to. Big 3 section decent down to the parking just out of town was a clean run. I will get master Watson on the case, I have trouble remembering where I live. So can’t be much help. The trails round there are amazing. Looking at doing Sticks pass or ullswater Wednesday depending on the weather.

Don’t know about Devo Max, but the Emarald is meant to be dam good according to Steve Jones. But he just talks a load of chuff apparently. I thought pikes were the way to go. I don’t have a tapered steerer and I’m not super enduro enough, so don’t really know.

It dose look like a blinder. 650b wheels yes, but strangely jonesy makes no mention of them in the review. Lets see whats said in next months 650b enduro bike test.
