EV’s are nt going to get cheaper than ICE’s for a long long time yet. If anything they will get probably get more expensive as the demand for battery’s increases and the resources for them get harder to extract/find. If and when they become a lot, lot cheaper (2nd hand) ICE cars will have been outlawed or taxed off the road /excluded from built up areas. What will the large percentage of the population do then, who cant afford to enter the EV market. At this point where ICE cars are not permitted anymore, 2nd hand values will increase (they already hold there value) as demand will increase further. Car manufactures could charge what they want to a captive market. Back street garages wont be able to service them (already a problem with some modern cars), increasing service costs. 1st generation batteries on older EV’s wont be up to much and replacements will be very expensive. What guarantees do we have that manufacturers will continue to provide updates to the software & batteries of older EV’s  maintaining the second hand market? I fear EV’s will become like white goods. Until the technology progresses from fixed charging points they will be a non starter for a lot of people, if they can even afford them. Its going to happen, there is no stopping it, but we need BIG changes in planning and lifestyle strategies if its going to be a workable option, and that is generations off. Just legislating against ICE cars and forcing people off the road is not on. The change should start with freight/industrial/government vehicles first, forcing the infrastructure to be put in place. Rather than forcing the cost onto private users.

EV’s are great, but you cant buy one for a £1000, so I’m out. even if i could get one cheep, I couldn’t charge it at home, or at work so I’m stuffed. I’m looking for a e-bike for commuting and general pottering about/shopping, but again cant find one worth having for the same budget. If my company adopted C2W, that would help. My fear is that the hole push over to EV’s will mean private cars will become something for the wealthy, as most people will be priced out of the market.

Im with Binners, Ok so there is no direct link on the train from Ramsbottom. But its only 15min on a bike to Bury Metro interchange with secure (locked & covered with CCTV coverage) bike storage for £10 a year. The Metro is super reliable. It takes me 45min in the car to Manchester (deansgate), If im out the door at 6.30. Getting home can be a disaster though. I keep intending to park up at Heaton park and ride the last 5mile in, but im a lazy arse. The key thing for me though is the riding straight out my door. ITS BLOODY EPIC! Lots a tech descents, open moreland to tight and twisty woodland single-track to hand dug bermy cheeky trails, Lee & Crag quarry. I have mates in the lakes who dream of trails like these straight out the door. The beer in rammy is ace as are the spots to eat. There is loads going off as well, Northern Grip (MTB festival) is just round the corner as well.

The CRC bag is the best you will get for the money. Yes is dose fall over because the wheel track is to narrow and its prone to collapse. But in all other regards its bang on, especially  for £150.

This shouldn’t even be up for discussion  (except on a forum) within government.

There’s enough religious nut jobs (from all faiths) in society as it is. We don’t need another, who has openly supported what ISIS has stood for, doesn’t regret her actions, and has rejected all the values of our society . She only wants to come back to take advantage of our medical and social services. Why should we pay to protect/house/feed her (even imprison her) and her child. She hasn’t denounced ISIS at all. We don’t need people like this, shes made her bed. As have the rest who would rather live under a strict sharia law and support these nut jobs. International law doesn’t come into it (it dose but it shouldn’t). It up to our government to decide what is best for our country, and act accordingly.

Ok apologies for the numpty question, but as I dont at the minute own a chain saw, or anything with a two stroke engine. My question is this…..

I had some tree surgeons cut up some oak logs for me and make me a big pile of oak chippings for meat smoking. I was then told that I cant use these chippings as they will be carcinogenic due to the chain oil they will have used. If I want to usea chainsaw to make wood chippings for smoking, the chain must be lubed with mineral oil or cooking oil? Is this correct & what would it do to the saw?

If the freeloaders are that arsed about paying for the site (penny’s FFS) any classified/ease of use/IT changes/problems with the forum they can shut up and go jump. Nobody’s going to miss them.
I’ve enjoyed the mag and the site since day 1, and independent journalism in this day and age is surely worth supporting. If you use something and value it, surely its worth a few pence. If you don’t support it, it wont be here for ever.

I use an osprey 2ltr bladder (possibly 3ltr, I will check when I get home) in my wingnut 3.0. A lumber type bladder wont fit because the wings are a separate compartment to the main body. Osprey bladders are so much easier to open & close to camelbaks. I’m very happy with mine, and love the wingnut. I don’t know of any packs that fit camelbak lumbar bladders except camelback packs such as the skyline 10ltr (which I also have). The wingnut is my go to pack because the skyline is a bit to small for a mountain morph.

Yes due to a 50% down turn in china sales and because 90% of their sale are diesel. They are cutting the fat in management and marketing, which is based in the uk. The motor industry is continuing a glut of production even though sales are down globally. Brexit has and will have an effect on car sales due to the week pound and probable tariffs, but the decline in the motor industry as we know it is inevitable.

The Stanton is a switchFS is a great ride, great climber and it goes down hill like a freight train. Yes its not cheap, very few good FS frames are, even fewer that are built in the UK. I really like what Dan and his team (Yo Slim !) are doing and think its worth the cash if you believe in their vision, which I do. You wont be able to visit the Santacruz factory to discuss paint or decal options would you. What they offer at Stanton is a quite personal service from a small independent  UK company. I had a demo on one at Ardrock, I was very impressed, and its a super looking bike. I hope to get one next year, when I retire my stumpy.  In an ideal world i would have a ti hardtail as well!

Internet connections should be the same as basic utilities, being tied into contracts for 18/24 months is a joke. Especially when you are moving house. virgin did the same to me except the couldn’t provide me with any service at my new address, but then expected continued payment for the last 5 months of my contract. Im with plussnet now, they dont charge a disconnection fee if they cant provide you with a service at a new address.

very good watches, good value. They are not bomb proof though. I’ve had a crash in mine which knackered it, re-build was £250. Basic service was about £170.

What people get their nickers in a knot about is beyond me. The Cathy Newman interview, was a farce. She showed herself right up. The threats idiots made to her have nothing to do with him, even if they were made by his supporters. I’m not particularly a fan, less so the whingers who moan about him.  Samunkim

Yeah love walking and carrying my bike around. Replacement parts cost a fortune these days, saves on ware and tare. Senor J, how long is your route? looks like 20km (ish). Might be a bit long after pushing my bike around the 4 passes and 3pts and a pub lunch. What are your highlights of the route?

I had this issue earlier in the year. All the internet booking sites offer up supposedly cheap deals but I found going direct cheaper. It all depends if you want a specific hotel, room or feature (e.g balcony). If so go direct, If you just want a room use a discount booking site. I had specific requirements which could only be offered by the hotel, and I wanted a particular hotel. The discount booking sites best deals where for mystery hotels. You didn’t know the details of your room or hotel until you had booked it. Because the room/hotel was a big part of the holiday experience for us I wanted to make sure it fitted the bill and didn’t want to take a chance on a mystery room. Going direct was about 15-20% cheaper than full price. You can get cheaper deals but you cant be as picky about your room or hotel.

I did the sport this year. Fantastic, its the same course as the full fat race on the Saturday. Still plenty of serious riders who didn’t get in for the Saturday race though, everybody’s racing somebody. But its for fun, so I wouldn’t worry about getting in peoples way. The problem with the sport category is you cant ride the course on the Friday practice. You can if you do the sprint race (only 3 stages) though. This has got me thinking about entering the sprint and intro (3 stages) instead. Then we get to ride Friday Saturday and Sunday. The only thing Im not sure of is, is the sprint and into on the same course? Did anybody do these two this year? I’ve emailed ArdRock about it but yet to get a reply.
