Is this a regular thing? I’d love to get involved, 0% experience on a BMX though!

Thanks for all the advice. I’ve already got a long sleeve base layer and shot sleeve tops so just need a windproof jacket and I’m done I think.

Any suggestions on windproof jacket around £40?

I’ve found these to be pretty good for the money –

Myself and 2 mates bought them around this time last year and there still going strong.

On-One Smorgasbord, £15.99. Highly regarded budget rear tyre.

OK thanks, so any preference on compound? Enduro or Trail Extreme? Maybe Enduro front and Trail Extreme rear?

If you do get one, make sure you get the Garmin GB Discoverer 1:50k map for it. The map built in is pretty much unusable. The maps expensive from Garmin but they do pop up cheap on eBay, or you could get a copy of someone else’s

I recently bought some Fox Launch Pro, after having them on for a few minutes I forget I’m wearing them. Might not be the best protection but its a good compromise.

mcnultycop – Garmin Etrex 20 is what you want. Takes AA batteries so its easy to carry spares. I use bikemap.net to draw out a route, or download someone else GPX files. Bike mounts are pennies off eBay, I picked up a used Etrex off here for about £70.

Thanks for the offer Mick but I only get home from work around 6, so no chance I’d make it

jaffejoffer – We did the course at Philips Park (Prestwich) yesterday. Trails are short enough to fly down and keep making tweaks each time until it all comes together.

Just a quick update, I booked a 2 hour set me up course with Andrew @ ridewithmee. Had a great time, made a few tweaks to my bike setup, got my attack position on the bike sorted. I was flying into and out of corners a lot faster than before. Set a few PR’s, so very happy. Well worth the £50. Think I will be booking a jumps course next.

I’d recommend the Garmin Etrex 30. I’ve got the 20 and it’s great, create routes online and download in GPX format, plug it in with a USB cable and copy them over. Runs on AA batteries, so easy to carry spares. Can pick them up reasonable prices on eBay, plus the bike mounts are on eBay for a few quid.
