Recently read Two Brothers by Ben Elton, thoroughly enjoyed it.

Portrays life for Jewish families in pre-WW2 Germany. Wasn’t sure what to expect but, with only being 99p on Kindle store, I thought I’d take a punt.

Looking at your ride up there, if you’re riding almost 15mph on a hilly route, you should be able to do 18mph on a flat ride over a similar distance.

Are you getting more elevation than the guys you are comparing to?

Is it only Dalby where you’re suffering? I find it really tough on the hardtail as it’s such a pedally trail and it’s the only place I suffer with back pain on my ht.

I mean, obviously you do need a new bike but not necessarily for this reason

Anyone tried it with a grade 2 soleus tear.

Did mine on Friday and got the Fred this Sunday. Should be fun, I can hardly walk at the moment, never mind square dance up Hardknott.

What’s the number you rang RRR? Is it the warmer energy services in Liverpool. 0151 5452627

I’m based in Wakefield so wondering if they’ll travel this far over?

Climbing centre I use (depot in leeds) won’t let you just rock up and climb unless there is a member to sign you in.

When I first started I did an induction as a first session (costs a couple of quid more than a standard session) and that gave me membership and also some pointers on what’s what.

As Whitestone says, you’ll be knackered pretty quickly to start with, fingers and forearms in particular. I go with my daughter a couple of times a week and typically we’re there for a couple of hours.

    Some good intro stuff here

@ DT78 – assuming your sink is Corian or equivalent, with it beng non-porous it should clean up pretty easily.

The pdf linked to below should give you an idea how to keep on top of it.

Me and a couple of mates rode this route a couple of years ago. It’s a great route, taking in Hardknott and Wrynose early doors just for shits and giggles.

    Map

We were lucky with logistics. We had one guy drive us over to Whitehaven the night before and another pick us up from Whitby on the day of the ride.

Tough day out but well worth it.

Slim pickings for me so far this year so far.

Saw Rival Sons earlier this week who were great.

Got Neneh Cherry (don’t judge!) next week.

I’ve got a place again this year. Last (and first time) I did it in 2016 I got ill the night before and couldn’t stomach any food on the day of the ride.

I did the whole ride on empty and I was a gibbering wreck by the end. Those portaloo’s are no fun when you’re wearing bib tights!!

I’m hoping I can enjoy it a bit more this time round!!

I’ve been pretty much a coil convert for years.  While the weight is a factor, the newer light steel springs mean that my CC Inline coil is only 250g heavier than the Rockshox Monarch it replaced.

Current bike is an Airdrop Edit and it seems to suit it well.  Bought it from TFT who do their usual set up based on rider and bike.  Other than a small amout of spring preload, it’s been fit and forget.

Lizard Skins Chargers should fit the bill.  Like an old skool mushroom grip.  I have them on all my bikes.

Yeah, do it.  I’ve no experience of roped climbing but got into bouldering around Easter time after my youngest showed an interest.

As others have said, it’s great fun and as social as you want to make it.  I’ll go with my daughter or friends some sessions, on my own at other times.  I am quite lucky though as my local climbing wall is really decent with regular resets of problems which keeps it interesting.

I found it took a couple of months for my hands to get used to it though, it puts a massive strain on your finger tendons if you’re not used to it and it can take quite a few days to recover.

Be warned though, as you start to improve it can get pretty addictive,  And as for the age thing, I’m 43 and haven’t found that a hinderence.

I’ve used the Lizard Skin Charger push ons on all my bikes for the last few years.  Dead comfy and cheap as chips.

I’ve used both the Disco Brakes and the Shimano ones.  Not much difference in performance for me tbh, but I find that the Shimano do seem to last longer so I tend to stick to them these days. (Zee’s on 2 bikes)

Yeah, SP41 here too with the addition of a Middleburn cable oiler on.  Seems to last ok.

Another one on a medium here, 5′ 10ish, 35mm stem and 760 bars, feels bob on.

Drop Airdrop an email or give them a call, I’ve found them really decent to deal with.

I use one of these stem cap mounts

    https://www.merlincycles.com/moon-stem-cap-mount-104700.html

So far seems pretty sturdy and a firmer fit than the original Garmin mounts on my road bikes. Would still feel better if the Garmin had a lanyard though.

If you’re staying in Tong, check out the DATCC Facebook group. They have rides every Tuesday and most Thursday starting down the road at the Woodcock pub in New Farnley.

Friendly bunch, decent craic and all rides finish at the local Sam Smith’s boozer.

Having ridden pretty much the road iron exclusively for the last 12 months, I didn’t realize how much I mussed just dicking around in the woods with my mates until just recently.

In contrast to the more serious club rides, messing about on the mtb is about 90% piss taking and 10% bike riding. So, it’s the craic with my mates that I’ve missed, although I can’t say it’s any different to what it’s always been.

A few of us managed 3 or 4 hours round Hebden Bridge this morning, sat outside the boozer with a pint at lunchtime before the heavens opened. Great day

    I’m guessing you’re from Morley – who’s Hardy?

Decent guess, Tingley. Not sure who he is, all I know is that Hardy was the red house.

At Primary school the houses were named after historic figures from the local town

Asquith, Hardy, Dartmouth and Scatcherd. Why we didn’t also have Laurel always confuses me.

34t with a 10 speed 36t cassette on both bikes.
Gets me round most places. Can struggle a bit on long days out but mostly fine

Sorry to hijack the thread, and tbh, can’t really help with your question, but I’ve got a pair of new calipers (5800 I think but would have to check) that was gonna put up for sale. Let me know if you’re interested.

    Cheers discostix, appreciate it.
Was gonna drill the bb shell, but more considering it for routing the dropper cable than drainage hole.
    Bit to think about…..

I’ve got an Exposure Flare fitted to the seat rails. Great light.
