I had a RM delivery from Rimpact turn up on my doorstep at the back end of last year – 13 months after it had been despatched so you’re only just getting started!
CragFree MemberThanks Crag – that’s affirming, as that’s about where I’ve ended up. Does anyone care to comment on rebound?
I’m running mine about 6 from fully fast.
1CragFree MemberI was running about the same as you (65psi and 2 tokens) which always felt OK. Was getting as good as full travel but was never completely happy with them.
However, when I bought a new shock recently from Mojo, Chris Porter advised 1 token and kg bodyweight + 10%-15% in terms of psi pressure with all the compression wound off so currently running at 90-95 psi (but with a couple of clicks of LSC).
You don’t get the same small bump sensitivity when bimbling along but when things get fast and lairy the forks are so much more controlled and don’t blow through the travel as easily.
So I’d drop a token and up the pressure.
CragFree MemberI still run 10 speed on both my bikes, 32t chainring, 11-46 cassettes.
From a mechanical and economic point of view, until recently I haven’t really seen the point of ‘upgrading’. 10 speed is pretty forgiving with less than perfect indexing, is pretty cheap and just continues to work and last for ages. (Saint shifter, XT rear mech and Sunrace cassette, SP41 outer, shimano inner fwiw)
However, as I’ve gradually upped the wheel sizes of my bikes to 29er and the type of riding I find myself doing evolving more towards the winch and plummet, I’m starting to look more and more at 11 and 12 speed to increase the range.
Sure, I can continue to ‘muscle’ up climbs but after 3 or 4 hours of doing this, I’m too knackered to enjoy the descents while all my mates are spinning up the same climbs and are relatively fresh at the top.
So, from a 10 speed stalwart, for me, the point of 11/12 speed is exactly what the OP describes, that being the differing gearing ratios. While I don’t agree with all the issues of 11/12 speed listed in the OP – too many of my friends are riding 12sp without issue to warrant merit, if you don’t need the additional range of gears then 10 speed works perfectly fine.
CragFree MemberI’ve got a Starling Murmur and use a Lezyne Power Cage. So far solid and silent. The podium bottles I have are very tight, so tight I’ve started using my elites instead.
Was at Bpw on Friday and happily left my bottle on the uplift all day without drama.CragFree MemberLizard Skins Charger push ons are my grip of choice. Pretty much what you’re describing. They can be had for less than a tenner so worth a punt.
CragFree MemberI got a Pole a few months ago, its ridiculous just how capable it is.
Its by far the best climbing bike I’ve owned (last HT was a Soul 275 and currently got an Airdrop Edit gathering dust)
Its a long bike so gets a little getting used to but it absolutely rips down hill and has no business going as fast as it does.
I’ve spent recent weekends chasing friends down on their 160mm endure rigs and can pretty much keep pace until it gets a bit chattery and rocky and the lack of rear travel makes a difference.
No regrets at all. Although saying that, a mate has just got a new bfe and and he’s in the same boat.
I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with either, modern long travel 29ers are great.
CragFree MemberBrakes ended up being an additional £60.
£7 duty
£40 VAT
£12 admin feeI think the brakes were £215 originally.
CragFree MemberCompletely unpredictable ime. Ordered forks and brakes from R2 myself over the last couple of months in 2 separate orders. Forks sailed through with no charges, brakes got stopped and I got an invoice through from Parcelforce for the VAT and duty.
Also ordered some new rims from Bike Discount with no charges so it does seem to be a complete lottery.
Just waiting to see what happens with my frame from Pole now……….
CragFree MemberHad a similar issue on some coil Lyriks several years ago. Spoke to TFT at the time and they said as a quick fix, once you’ve got the rebound set, just swap the air and the rebound foot nuts round.
Leak stopped immediately and the forks are still going strong. Never bothered looking for the root cause.
CragFree MemberMy daughter and I have been climbing regularly since they reopened and its been pretty much business as usual apart from they have put a limit on numbers in the centres. Standard stuff really, hand sanitiser, keep your distance and all that.
I’m in Leeds and climb at Depot bouldering walls (both Pudsey and also Sheffield until the tier 3 restrictions) as well as occasionally at Big Depot too. They have a handy capacity counter on their site so you can avoid busy times.
https://www.theclimbingdepot.co.uk/manchester/news/capacity-counter
Recent change is the wearing of a mask unless on the wall.
If any further covid restrictions means they close again I’ll be gutted
CragFree MemberIf you’re after another Sunrace I’ve got a MX3 11-46t sat in the spares box that is never likely to get fitted.
CragFree MemberI went back to push ons several years ago, could never find a grip that I didn’t end up hating.
I now use Lizard Skins Chargers on all my bikes, you can pick them up for less than a tenner. Never had problems with them sliding around.
Lock-ons are a solution to a problem that doesn’t exist IMO.
CragFree MemberI think I know the moor you’re referring to and if so, the local road club are running weekly Strava segment challenges and there’s a few of them spending a load of time chasing the top spot so that could be the reason.
I think I know the guy on the Storck (used to ride in the club with him) and you’re right, he’s a pretty strong rider so he’ll be trying to get bragging rights for getting his virtual trophyCragFree MemberI’ve used Ultimate Shield for quite a few years now on pretty much all the phones in the house.
https://www.ultimateshield.co.uk/
Can’t really tell you’ve got a protector on there and last a good while. Far better than the thick tempered ones and don’t scratch like the cheap film ones from ebay.
CragFree Member3 houses here at 45.
Had one for 2 years before relocating. Last one had over 10 years. Had our current house 4 years and have no intention of moving again.
CragFree MemberI’m waiting on delivery of a new Debonair spring, it’s interesting to read peoples views on it.
I’ll let you know how I get on but for £40 it’s a cheap enough upgrade.
CragFree MemberSame as Lunge, my go to is the Elite Corsa.
The free ones that you get from events tend to have crap bite valves.
CragFree MemberWe had a similar issue a couple of years ago.
Our local authority has a pest control section (Leeds fwiw) and for less than £100 they sent a man round.
He established where they were getting in, set poison in the relevant areas of the loft and came back 3 or 4 times until he was happy that we no longer had any rats living in the house – as said above, the poison makes them thirsty and they leave the house looking for water.
Once clear, I blocked up their entry (they’d chewed through a plastic airbrick and were using the cavity and loft as their playground!).
I’ve still got poison in the corner of the loft in case any more get in but as yet it hasn’t been disturbed.
Traps are fine if you’ve only got a couple of rats, our rat man said we had ‘many generations’ living in our loft.
I’d get a man in and save the stress.CragFree MemberI’ve been using some Dakine Syncline for a few months. Light and a bit of stretch. Think I paid about £30 for them. Can’t comment on longevity yet but so far, so good.
CragFree MemberRecently read Killing Commendatore by Murakami which I really enjoyed.
American Kingpin by Nick Bilton is a really good read as well, details how Silk Road started and ultimately fell.
Currently on with Straight White Male by John Niven which is an easy enjoyable read.
CragFree MemberI thought it would be a good idea to do 300 push ups a day for a month. On day 8 and starting to think the idea wasn’t so great after all…….
CragFree MemberMaybe try to find out which wholesalers have started doing home deliveries now to shift stock?
Not doing home deliveries but we are one them wholesales. If anyone is in the Leeds/Wakefield area and needs 16kg of flour or 12kg of chilled yeast let me know :)
CragFree MemberTurns out my geography teacher was a bit of wrong ‘un.
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/education/572989.stm
I always thought he was a bit of prick after he threatened to throw me down the stairs for not doing my homework but turns out he was a serial sex offender as well.
CragFree MemberThanks for the responses.
Generally seems that experiences are pretty positive of smart meters.
I’ll do a bit more research on some of the brand’s mentioned above.CragFree MemberGot a Forge and pretty much what TheArtistFormerlyKnownAsSTR says.
CragFree MemberWinstons is just round the corner should you need to, erm, relax for a while.
CragFree MemberBeen really ramping up my climbing over the last couple of months so biking has really taken a back seat, usually just getting out on the road bike once a week to aid with weight management.
Currently at the climbing wall / bouldering wall 3x a week, a couple of nights I’ll run 4-6 miles and a couple of days do some body weight exercises and conditioning along with fingerboard sessions.
I know I should, but I don’t really have many days off.
Oh, and I’m still pretty shit at climbing!CragFree MemberNI is dealt with in the same way as income tax
No, it isn’t. PAYE is cumulative, NI is per payment and changes (potentially) each time you are paid.Read my post fully.
CragFree MemberIf it’s all going to be paid in the same tax year then there is no difference in the tax or NI liability be it paid in one lump or spread over 10 months – NI is dealt with in the same way as income tax – the overall position will be same by year end.
So far as I understand income tax, it is just a % of what I earn and if I end up paying more tax in the month I get my bonus, then it is just dribbled back to me over the remainder of the year.
Pretty much this.
Take the lump sum
Edit: on further reading seems NI isn’t based on cumulative earnings like tax. Another reason to take the lump.

I’m thinking of it as well. Although the idea of doing something with 50% more distance & climbing than the Ronde van Calderdale does scare me a bit!If you can get round the RvC then the FW is certainly not beyond reach. Personally, I find the RvC equally as tough.
I’ve done the FW twice now, both times I’ve been blessed with glorious weather which helps massively. I wouldn’t want to winch up some of those passes with rain and sleet coming in sideways.
CragFree MemberMy experience pretty much echoes RRR.
The agent came across as ait of shyster tbh and we had 2 installers call round to do surveys to be told that, as expected, the grants are means tested and therefore we didn’t qualify.
When we rang the installers to discuss the qualifying criteria, it seems that John has a bit of form with them for promising free boilers only for it not to be the case.
Worth a punt but ultimately, a waste of time.
