Looks good. When I was last frame shopping I was going to get an RC529 but ended up with a Stanton Switch9er, which I really like but often gets left behind for an easy ride when I’ll reach for my crappy Boardman Xc pub bike. I also got a go on the 27.5 Pace with the 853 tubing and it felt much nicer than the Taiwan steel of the Stanton. Would love SS-able dropouts though.

gplama had a good take on how useful these are in differnt locations – always the trade off of visibility(aka removeability) v find-ability

Result! Though the folks at Cannondale consider this a wear and tear break they are making a good will gesture of providing me with a new Trail frame. (not SS but I’ll make do with some sort of tensioner solution)

Progress update, LBS (and Cannondale dealer) have heard back from Cannondale who asked me to bring it in so they could asses this wasn’t crash damage etc. But no commitment/comment on warranty, yet.

You didn’t strip all the components off the frame yourself did you 😉

that’s just the ebb unit out to replace a serviceable part – seems to be covered in the handbook they sent

    (but i get your point)

    suggests that for xc:

    “Lifetime of the original owner.”

but will be surprised if there’s not some push back

I’m a Switch9er rider and just ant to put it out there that Dan and others from the company have been really good at answering queries over on the FB owner page and that even the administrators (in my experience) have got back to emails and shipped stuff to me, it was tough times all around – but here’s to a great 2023 for Stanton!

I was going to get a Pace but went for Stanton Switch9er in the end – really enjoy it going up, down and along. Taiwan steel but super comfy and weight it not a problem Running a Pike 140 on it.

BTW i sent them back- felt like i would always be wondering if a straight up pair would be better, and i would like option to run a 203

Are the Fox 34s unstickered, like the CRC ad?

yes they just have the code and basic info about settings stickers and a small E-logo

the code search said the were OE – so probably a job-lot origrinally destined for complete e-bike model fell off a lorry (but more official than that)

i have run this on my hardtail for about a year – i’d say the 8 speed is more budget than burley – mainly the cassette, it has a lot of flex under load and each sprocket has a lot of rotational play (it’s held together with one small bolt)

the shifter is basic but fine, the mech worked fine but the clutch is pretty weak and unadjustable – so there was lots of slap

in addition to that you have to use a box chain with it – which have been hard to source (though i am tempted to chance it with a shimano one)

i suspect, though i haven’t tried it, that the nine speed is a step up and really what i should have bought – looking on the tech docs it has a different mech build anyway

If you want to head west the classics are the stravaigan Glasgow’s only legit gastro pub, Ubiquitous Chip the classic west end restaurant.

Gambas fish place is near your hotel, I like that. I went to Chardonne d’Or and thought it was falling short of real fine dining apart from the price. They can pick a good wine though.

i’d say they’re all past their best in terms of WC DH. last year there was so many young guys with top fitness and experience that usually comes later down the road

this’ll be one of those big money moves

i predict rachel will be the highest placed in 2012, 3rd, and gee won’t make better than fourth (end of season results)

do you run for exercise as well? i do and i got a garmin forerunner 305 – old skool but accurate. i’ve got a bike mount, garmin cadence sensor and garmin hrm all using the ANT+ standard. costing around 90 quid all in.

the garmin can be programmed to flip between sports easily and i even used it for a whole standard triathlon. starting with it in my swim cap and switching to bike and wrist.

a lot of mates use them out kayaking, skiing and whatever else they do that moves under their own power.

it’s a good starting point – check dcrainmaker for good advice

i’m keen to find this for ‘free’ on a contract – i’m sure i’ll want to go back to iphone but long as the handset lasts ok i’ll still have a IP60 IPX7 rated smart phone for biking

i was running 11-25 with a 42t un-ramped on my tri-cross and using the n-gear thing too – the jump stop is really good, chain never came off riding but if it ever was pushed off in transit or when cleanign you could pedal it back on like you had a mech

i now have a double ring as scottish hill routes are too steep

loved that scrambling one above – was that a lampkin in there too?

my contribution from some mates who were playing with their new go pro at gt – i like the fading between riders, you know? for kids!

get some grippy shoes, innovate or brashers – but watch out they have much less bounce than running shoes so on roads or hard trails they might give you lower leg/shin/knee gyp – start like regular jogging, walk run for a few k with less climbs and build up

    have fun

have been out there twice – try and go to dahab it’s much nicer, relaxed – try look for a deal in le meridian

you can dive, snorkel and kite surf up there and going out to the town for a meal is pretty relaxed – much more so than sharm, el finar, old sharm etc

re instability – egypt remains a sovereign arab country so bombs and that aside it should be safe

re sharks – go diving with uk dive schools off boats, the trouble was near middle gardens with snorkelers on the surface

have a safe and pleasant trip
