Mary townley loop is great, can be done nicely in 2 days. With nice bug out points.

Did this a year ago. Great time.

I think that the idea of a touring type bike (not mountain bike) is a really good development.

Exploring a European city on e bike, bit of cycling / bit of electric scooter seems like a good idea.

Watching people be winched up a mountain under electric power to bomb down does irite me.

So use has a lot to do with this For me

I really like & use basic 4 android. Much easier to understand if you have any background in programming from school. You can then move onto Java and eclipse later.

    For a school D of E:

See if they have roll mats to lend out, all the ones I have been involved with do. Centers/Schools tend to buy cheap and in bulk.

Unless your sure they are going to keep it up (progress to Gold, and maybe go abroad to do this) get a much cheaper foam one, and wrap it in a builders sack. Its light, it wont pop, is cheap. Kids tend to sit on them out on the campsite, or lots of kids in one tent chatting if the weathers bad. Inflatables really don’t stand up to this kind of abuse well.

For D of E, I really don’t see the need for the inflatable mats at all.

I am also a Gold level assessor for my sins.

Ive had a go with the OS get a map V2 beta, its ok. Still not quite a replacement for a dedicated offline package.

Still I think that Quo is good, for a dedicated mapping system. Lots of options that I find useful and use often.

Follow the route of the calderdale mountain bike Marathon. Easier to look it up than me describe it. It should do what you fancy with a couple of great descents.

Dettol (the stuff your old school matron used to use) diluted right down to clean camel pack bags.

Freeze water bladders between uses so you never need to clear the inners.

Tenacious tape all the way. Don’t use duck tape. It has a nastry habit of shifting. Then leaving adhesive smeared over things when used on fabric. Short term fix maybe some sniper tape.

I really like the Stanley mug, the sign of a good Sat morning is getting up early and drinking from it on the way to lakes.

Think that they look cool too.

I got an ebay mount for my etrex 20. It worked a charm, I put a zip tie on it just in case, but it probably doesnt need it.

You should be paid to contribute to this forum. This is a feature of this forum that should be put out more, big home made rides in the mountains.

    Thank you

I know its a little off topic, but I’d consider something with a wider burner. The pocket rocket is goid, but does provide a very intense focussed spot of heat. Very good a burning.

    Just sonething to consider.

I dont know the area, my first trip or two (to any of the suggested areas) would be to sort out and plan en situ.

Yeah, Friday night flights are the best option, but a little like hens teeth. Thanks for the reasoned help though, it really does help.

Mike and Peter you raise some good points too, thanks.

Thanks so much for the honest views. There are some really good suggestions here.

Against somewhere judgement im going to give it a try in the new year, just to say I have.

Work is annoying, taking a day off friday on monday isn’t possible.

    Thanks for the effort.

The friday night flights are non starters, they wait in Heathrow over night and cost 300 quid more than the Jet 2 flights.

Still if others can sort this it gives me hope!

Yeah, done that route and the smaller gorple-lite more times than I can remember, you wont be disappointed.

If you want a longer similar route, try the Mary Townley Loop that has lots of this in.

    Hope this helps

Hi all, thanks so much for the input on this, its a good discussion. I do think that a good new book will come along one day, hopefully like feet in the clouds or white spider. I see all the points made, I have looked at lots of those, I remember looking at all the old mint sources on line. I’ve read Adventures in the Mind and long may books like that be written. And thanks to vp for doing these books.

Im going to look through those I don’t have and read some nice suggestions.

    Thanks so much

Removing of silverlight would be excellent. I too keep this as a subscription after trying quos subscription mapping. Which was aweful. Pity as their software is first-rate. (Use this for all my main work). I also would like to see text descriptions that can be longer that 255 characters.

Sent them an email abit ago about this, they said thanks and just wait for the new one.

Got high expectations. Hope its html5 based. Now that would be a gamechanger. With a decent api
