The old films about kayaking Everest are great.

For a more modern take I like ride your f##king bike on YouTube. Wheel love is just out. Thought it was ok. Worth a watch.

You could go to steepedge and buy a couple. Some propper adventure films then.

Death grip is ok, but some great pics.

The Steve peat film is great.

The single-track one is worth a watch too.

    Just my opinion.

There’s a pub in arncliffe in the Dales that still only serves pints in a jug out of a barrel.

Yes, every time I have been recently the bloke who used to sell the tickets is now paid to tell people how to buy the tickets.

There is also then someone on the ferry to check the purchased ticket.

Yes, ta, knew it’s in German. Should be able to translate as needed.

Do you have any rides from the book that are must do’s?

    Thanks.

Think that link is for the Italian channel. Not the UK one. No Mountain Bike Adventures on it.

    Pity for all involved.

Why don’t you see about a local cadet or scout group. The right ones will have them out climbing loads, with good kit and instructors.

Thanks all for the sanguine views and thoughts on this.

Does anyone know of any local groups in place before any thoughts of setting up a group is looked at?

@martinhutch & ChrisE. Ill PM you later in the week.

Know this is a bit of an older older thread now, but if you’ve got an hour or so listen to the last Hookit Podcast (which is normally brilliant by the way). Its with Ollie who makes the new Sender magazine. I found it brilliant and informative.

Drac, yeah you can cook lots in them.

Jetboil themselves say that they are only good for water.

I think its just that its such intense heat in spots that unless your careful it’ll stick & burn.

I only use mine for wet ration pouches and hot water for a brew. Mainly first thing in the morning when they really excel.

That’s not to say you can’t, but it’ll be easier with a pan & stove.

The joy of stoves is that its n+1 on a much more affordable scale! ?

There are different options firvwhat you suggested.

Jetboil type – no good for the beans. Only ever heat water in them.

Tower type (crux)- good. But stability issues.

Remote cartridge. (Kovea spider type) – good. Good stability too. Will be larger however as you have a build in stand.

For you I’d suggest the latter. But all will work, and getting out with your lad is what’s important.

I really like the Crank Brothers Y16 tool. Its a bit heavier and bulkier than most, but solid.

Find when I am working as a group leader a stronger tool tends to be needed one some bikes that are not quite as well maintained.

The chain tool is as others have said is brilliant.

What ever you go for make sure that you try it on. Make sure that it is packed fully and weighted when you do so.

As a general rule I tend to think the more straps and bits that can get snagged on the outside of the bag the less suitable it is.

I think this is a good ride for what you describe.

    Horton In Ribblesdale Route

Nice rolling grassing downhill. Only a short more technical section. Return leg on road past some nice Pubs.

Where I have had this in the past it was where the air wasn’t actually going into the shock. I’d check it was latched on correctly.

I use a crux rk30. Its a great group bag. I can throw all the kit in it. The material takes all sorts of abuse.

I know its far from a cycling specific bag, but when leading groups out its the right bag for me.

I love my Sherpa, my only issue is trying not to buy a mk. 2 so that I get the better tyre clearance. It’s my only niggle with the mk. 1 frame. As soon as the wheel is anything but true it rubs.

Yes, there are some great rides. Think singletrack did the best one as one of the classic rides.

    Look for that one first.

It comes back to a view that I have that for our sport to develop and mature things like this than can provide some heritage are great.

Things that can be trained towards, documented and compared over time.

Those ITTs have really given me something to think about. I would love some wider thought on taking on something like the rounds you mention for mountain biking.

    That website is brilliant, thanks.

Not really looking for anything for myself, was thinking what could be done? Or is being done?

Yes a poor title looking back now, can’t edit it now however!

I’m really glad you said that, I lost the shine on mine really quickly. Thought that it was the over zealous cleaning with something that I had not diluted down properly!

I think it climbs really well. As for descending I was blown away, its superb.

With the mk.1 which I have the clearance at the back isn’t great, and at times has made me think of moving everything over to a mk.2 frame. These have address the issue.

I have a 21″ at 6’2″ and a 50mm stem with a slight rise bar it works well.
