I wonder if the person used a Kukri to chop off the goat’s head

Good old stw! Seriously. I’m chuckling!

What about the guy in the photo above cutting his toe nails as his mother is cremated? I guess she’d told him to keep trim them or clean them or something equally as practical!

I chickened out with the camera once there. I’ll not forget it.

Chewkw- we actually went to a Sky burial once. We were dubious as “guests”. Basically paying tourists. But apparently it paid for the family’s request. Was sobering though.

We also went to Hindu funeral pyres in Nepal where all are welcome. Even part of everyday life. I must say that left a lasting impression on me.

    Edit –

Will your mum live longer than you?

Sadly – that’s not around too many corners. Shes got a clear plan though and loves it.

Weird. I dont like this chap at all. But this reminds me of why we’re invited here.

I can see this playing as the flames lick over my sad bones!

BTW – Dont listen to this if even slighly down. Seriously.

    Reminds me of hell!

That’s an interesting question. Most folk want to increase travel. In which case the stock answer for oem is “I’m pretty sure you wont know if they are adjustable til youve taken them apart (to remove spacers)”. Some / most oem dont have spacers. In the ones I’ve had spacers seem to be either 15 or 20mm.

As you’re reducing travel I’d probably be happy to add spacers to reduce travel (its daft / impossible to increase it beyond it’s limits). In your case all its going to do is force it so sit lower on the stanchions.

btw – I’ve only gone the other way – removing spacers. If you die – it’s your own fault!

    grantus: re the mags:

As for Graham – that’s your thing mate. We’re all a bit odd. It keeps things interesting between us all! And we like to laugh at others “oddities”. You just go for it!

Lastly why tf cant I get the symbol plus to post in any posts. It just comes out as a space and yet you guys can do plus characters all the time????

lets look at this from another perspective…they are light weight brake parts etc.

    I agree.

203mm discs I wouldnt be using lightweight ones

Mine are 180: I want to keep them same across bikes.

More to the point, have you actually called/emailed SS to ask about it?

I have. Im waiting for a response.

I guess we’re just highlighting a problem and maybe seeing if there’s a common issue / lesson.

btw – personally I think SS are great!

Do they only go weird with Hayes rotors?

I guess you mean Hayes calipers?

If so I dont know – my problem is with a Fromula Oro.

They are undeniably shit! They did the same thing to us when we moved the phone line back to BT. Eventually sorted and refunded but I think they make it deliberately difficult.

At least now they’ve stopped phoning me every other week to see if I’d like broadband.

How are you going to get the files off the dead laptop? Is it just the screen is dead or do you have external backup?

I had to physically remove the disk, buy a doofer to allow it be plugged into a desktop, network “shared” the disk from the desktop and then copied the files. There might have been an easier way – like keeping backups!

Software from scratch. MSE is great and free.

amateurishly slow and spend the majority of time rubbing my face in the dirt,

Well that there sets you apart from us – off course we do the same thing. But we never admit it. Stiff upper lip etc! It’s all the Frenchies fault. Honestly.

Anyways, welcome. Sorry – I cant help with 456’s – they’re 2 a penny here so just too common for us snobs. Ragley. That’s where cheapish is now.

My only advice is go one season above what the manufactuers say. My missus and I had several cozy nights at -5 at 4000m in the himalyas but had a miserable night in the trossachs in a Vango 3 season thingy.

Cheers Tazy – I’m keeping a look out locally. And on Gumtree. I’d prefer new – or from someone on here – or nearly new at least. There’s a lot of tat out there!

Ok. So I’d been looking for things on my used shortlist for a while. I’ve never seen a cheapish Anthem or Rush so far. I dont know what Dales to watch for so that’s a pointer – cheers.

    x10!?

If you can get a 3×10 cheaper then go for that. Almost the same price / cheaper. Works exactly the same with x9 on front and may be a bit more future proof / sellable?

buy a nice second hand full suss frame f

Mmmm. I’ve been looking. Thing is this Voodoo has so much bling I could sell – at a rough approx I’mm looking at 270 for a FS net after selling forks etc.

    You gotta try harder!

Possibly a Voodoo is piece of carp?

    ## Edit I forgot to say – this wont be an obeject of beauty. Just a tool to get somewhere I need to be. Love, image, snobbery, colour are all well in the background.

Thanks for bringing this up again. Since my post above I’ve gone a bit sad / anal. I dont like unexplained problems!

I’d taken the disk off and measured it with a vernier calipers in every way possible. Mine is a tiny bit thicker at one point. A tiny bit off centre. I thought I was going mad but I refitted it “back to front”. A round the block test confirmed it still gives you epilepsy. There is something physically / chemically wrong with mine. You can have it for free (includes free marker measurements). So long as you can give a rational explanation. Just drop me an email for a free 180.

We got loads of Crueset stuff as wedding presents and it’s gash.

We got around to replacing most stuff recently and it appears that quality most non stick stuff is made by – and I cant rememer exactly = Merlon / Anulon.

Especially good value is the “last weeks celebrity” stuff. Ours came from Tacky Max and it is more non stick than a politician! Raymond Blanc. But all this celebrity stuff comes form the same plant apparently. As an example an omlette with no oil just cleans off with paper towel. Even mrs goes – wow:thats easy to clean.

    Its aluminium. Hard adonised.

As mentioned there are some good ones on the WOL – especially in Colinton Dell. I’ve gone down most of them with a grin on my face – but there’s one in particular that I’m determined to climb – the one nearest the ‘monks hut / beehive thingy’. I can get about 3/4 ways up. Get a teeny bit better each time.

The ones we get all show up with CLI of “Out of area”. I’m sure they’re some off shore call centres.

Now when I see that on the screen I answer it and hang up immediately. If it is someone I know – they’ll call back.

If its for personal use a PCP (a variant on leasing) might be better.

Car in registered in your own name. You get a guaranteed future value for it – but it could be higher – so there’s an incentive to look after it.

Once the term is up – hand it back, trade it in (just any value higher than the guarantee) or buy it for the guaranteed price.

You have to pay for insurance, servicing and tyres (some leases include this).

Like a lease though there are penalties if you have to hand it back sooner, damage it etc.

3 Panasonics here between home and work. Bought based on a Which review.

All good – work over crazy long distances. Sound in and out is fine.

Really loud built in speakerphone if you’re really HARD OF HEARING 😉

Only downside with ours is the menus for answerphone, phonebook etc arent that intuitive but I soon got the hang of it.

But duntmatter – the key thing is – your doctor says: go to A&E now. You’ve got chest problems. So you’d wander along. Worried.

In my case – probably your case – your heart will be in you mouth.

And it’s human nature – you sit there thinking some fecker with a sore thumb has got in in front of me!

Give the guy a break! FFS.

Our a3 2.0 tdi went back after 3.5 years of mainly town driving. Computer over that time said 34.9 mpg. Brim to Brim said 33. This was mainly driven by my wife. In that time it had a few major issues fixed under warranty.

Oil consumption was 1L per 8,000 miles.

She’s since replaced it with a petrol bmw (arrrgh!) 116i (2.0L) that does 35 mpg on the same routes. The stop start effecient thingy just suits her (revvy) driving. She doesnt know or care to be honest.

On long trips it probably less eco but we genearlly dont use it for long ones (no boot etc).

So in retrospect – buy a diesel – change driving style, expect more repair bills and less stops at the pumps. Which is more “economical” depends on you, your miles, what breaks etc.

My point is that YOU need to change – not the fuel / car. Adapt to what you’ve bought.

dont complain too much chaps. Private healthcare system means the same delays, but you ahve to pay 2-300 Euro up front before they see you. Thats the Republic for ya……

I’se presuming you’re in ROI. My elderly mum’s ongoing stuff there is costing her 29k so far, even with insurance (which wriggles out of everthing). Althogh to be fair she is seen instantly and has an mri on a whim (but she pays).

The UK NHS is much critised – but much better than the alternative ime.

What – are you mad? After all we told you? We said a 30cDi.FFS D. Ceee Deeee Iiiiii.

    D as in D.
    What’s hard about D.

How daft are you to mix up D with S? FFS

Seriously – well done. It’s a big dolp of cash but hopefully folk will stop posting “what boiler” threads and use the search function. Just like I didn’t years back. And got pointed in the right direction.

So whats the difference between a DI and an SI? Do I have to tear the house down and start again?
