Theres an odd number of weights so spread the each side of the required mean with the last one equal to mean.

    So eg 5 6 7 8 9

edit – or lots of other combo’s

    The Flying Ox
I moved to Scotland 6 years ago. It was tough at first, what with the almost impenetrable language and frankly inedible local cuisine, but I find I am warming to the place and its peoples.

I’m in the same boat as Ox, came to visit Haggisworld 15 years ago and havent left yet. I practice my accent every day though – just to keep in touch with home.

I like online shops (not just bike related) that have lots of info and personal views on stuff (eg the bike chain does this for some items). Also lots of photos.

I like the Wiggle “ask a question” thing. Answers tend to be slow though.

Also customer reviews: it’s amazing what you learn (powerlinks come in pairs despite lots of folk ordering 2).

As for payment option: check out the CRC Credit card thread. I bet a lot more folk will be using paypal from now on (til they get hacked).

The simplest way to see if they do anything is get an old inner tube, split it, cable tie it to your forks. If like me you realise it helps keep you clean (no crap in your face) then possibly pay for the much neater version with a logo.

Others will totally disagree. I wont leave home without one (innertube version).

Quiet – you will struggle with.

I’ve only experience with 2 – a commercial one that dims the lights when it starts up. And a Clarke one I got from Machine Mart (got it to do some painting)which has chugged away for a few years with no problems and came with a “kit” of the basics you may want / need (incl oil). I think I paid around £130 – but that was when a £ was worth a £.

Someone will be along shortly to poo poo my purchase but it does me fine. Great for working on the car and loads of other stuff too.

Only bit of Hope I own means regular purchases of pawl springs for my Pro III hub. Otherwise nice click click click that makes my bell almost redundant! Look nice too.

1st- Dont buy an old diesel. ime – 4k for the car will mean you have to cover a single repair bill of 4k. If the car is out of warranty buy a petrol.
2nd – We’re all diffenent. Dont borrow unless you really really have to.
3rd – dealers and banks are in competition. Play them off against each other.

This has cropped up on here every six months or so. After a spate of fraud I used to be V susiciously of CRC / Wiggle but it turned out to be a local BAA parking machine had a skimmer installed.

This was from the days I used to work in the CC IT world (a few years back). I seriously doubt CRC / Merlin / Wiggle etc (there were rumours about all of these) are allowed to store any CC info in the clear. All transactions are transferred to big name players : Worldpay etc.

Ultimatley, pay by Credit Card – you’ve got very little to worry about.

Your local petrol station is FAR FAR more likely to be skimming your details than a bike shop.

If the seller has either a credit balance or a linked bank accont they just take the money off him. If he’s devious he’ll have thought of this though and maybe moved on.

They did this to me too. It took about 4 weeks to resolve. Keep bugging them. My account had a credit balance otherwise I wouldnt have bothered.

In the meantime I opened another account with a different card.

    I used something like this:
    http://www.screwfix.com/prods/60320/Hand-Tools/Files-Rasps/Bahco-Homeowners-Dual-Cut-Metal-File-8

You dont need to file the caliper – just the adapter.

I dont know if this is your exact problem but with my SLX mounts (IS mounts on fork) and Hope 180 floating rotors the rivet thingy* hits the mount adapter. I filed / dremelled a smidgen* off the mount to let the thingy pass with a margin. I just needed to do the lower part of the adapter.

    * Proper technical terms!

mboy – I’ve got a vendetta against Spoons – and love Romins. Got 2 now.

They look mad but after a few days just work. Not great on a mtb tho – catch your baggies.

btw – BikeRadar (can I mention that??) have a saddle swap thing going on in their road forum. Might be worth a shot?

ime if the outside inspection hatch is filling then its a downstream problem. Our house is prone to the “trap” blocking, which always requires a vacuum. Not mad expensive – maybe £80 – but I know who to call directly now as dyno-dick pointed me in their direction.

On a slight tangent – dont let your kids see you messing with this stuff. It does nothing for your kudos!

why would a copper be visiting you about that?

It’s Ireland. That there stuff just doesnt happen!!!

Hairy – I guess you’re taking the piss a bit? My mum lives not too far from you (that’s not her in the photos btw!).

Maybe the silence is indicative of what I’ve found. I cant recommend any “waterproof” gloves. I’ve tried Endura, Aldi and Sealskinz. Unless Im heading out in a total downpour I’ll always wear my Gore windproof ones. Dont get wet quickly. Warm when damp. Good for a few hours in the rain. And last ages. I’ve got 3 pairs now. Come in a variety of warmness!

Edit – I forgot to mention my Marigolds. Probably about as breathable as most “waterproof” gloves.

My only experience is in buying an Allez used (I bought an Allez 18 for a nephew) – they seem to hold their value pretty well.

In my 10 min spin around the block on it I decided I needed one too. Havent seen one cheap enough yet!

If its got pink rigid forks and 7 speed gears – you is fubar. Anyhing more attractrive than that is a gamble. Unless you’ve got lots of locks etc.

#Edit: Unless you can afford to loose it / have no sentimental value I wouldnt dare.

Well done man! I’m an ex-smoker of 7 years. The first week is the worst, then the first month, then the first 6 months, then the first year, then…..

If you’ve got this far and are still thinking about it – I dunno – but have you got some other stresses / issues in your life?

My line of work is fubar. Costs going through the roof and competition driving prices and margins down. Mainly due to the collapse of Sterling I guess.

I’m now looking at going back to localised IT. Or plumbing. Something local that cant be outsourced I guess.

Missus and I came here for a few years to see if we liked it. 15 years later…..

Of course it aint perfect. There are places to avoid, it aint cheap, but lots in town and on the doorstep.

If you can live near on of the cycle routes, the canal or the Water of Leith then getting around by bike is easier. The council website has some pdfs that detail these.

You wouldnt want to be a whiner about the weather mind! Its colder but drier than the west coast imo.
