    Brilliant. I want the T-shirt!

Once I stop shaking of course!

In common with some comments above a skills course seems to teach you to be smooth. In control…

Which somehow seems slower. But is way faster.

Edit – BTW with I’ve been at GT a couple of times with TJ breathing down my neck. That also makes you faster 😉

Honestly a balanced opinion – read on.

Basically Magicshine clone (ish) euro / emerican designs – Lupine, Hope, etc etc. Thats good and bad I guess.

Over the last few years I’ve bought (for me and mates) SSC p7 torches (all lasted about as long as their price indicates), chargers (bought a fire extinguisher), batteries (saved up biscuit tins!). All tongue in cheek – honestly.

A year later Magicshine cloned the Lupine Tesla (the ssc p7 – known as the bastid). Fantasic for the cash. I still have and use 2. Regularily failed for simple reasons (if mine was anything to go by). Needed soldering iron and basic skills and a supply of cables and connectors to keep going. But still got me out of an evening for £50 and the occasional bodge through the worst winter ever (or the best one ever imo!).

A year later – 2011. A new breed – this time some seem to be copying brands like Hope and striking out on their own. Some reports of chargers burning. Quality improving, still reports of problems.

So – on balance – if I was a bit more cash rich – time poor – I’d buy a hope or whatever. But I aint. So I buy magicshines every year so far. And I love and recommend them.

The thing is – for me – I dont need many more lumens. I dont know what the magicshiners will do next year – probably more lumens – but I doubt I’ll go and buy “more lumens”.

Next winter I’ll look at beam spread, run times, guarantees – or perhaps way way better – diy fixability / modability / reflecors / lenses / batteries….

Some folk may already be there. So that’s kind of my point. I’ve gone from cheapest possible – to next year “I’ll happily pay more for X,Y,Z”.

    Just a wee puff earlier.

I dinna eeen ha too hould oon too mee breeches!

Very Sorry – non native here. But someone had to have a go!

It was a tad breezy. Didnt live up to the hype in Edinburgh though. Other spots seemed bad. Local Government induced rush hour at 1 pm caused a bit of gridlock.

Seems back to normal now. Missus is off to Christmas party, local kids were going mental being off school.

We moved in to ours 15 years ago. Microbore. Never heard of it and I didnt like the look of it. But it does heat up super quick, there are almost no joins (pipe just bends) and we’ve never had a leak or issue. Unless there is a major downside I wont be replacing any of it and had our extension done the same. I’d probaby prefer it.

Someone will be along in a minute to tell me I’m going to die or need £5k.

    Crotchrocket – I guess you’re being sarky like 😉

Just to be clear = my comments weren’t about the 55 – more about the Commencal warranty situation (change of distributer and that) which 6 months ago was terrible. It seems a massive amount better now. Mine was/is/will be again a Super 4.

My mate. From BBC Scotland homepage:

    V1:

    V2:

    V3:
Should be built up this weekend

Which is sad as I’ve not heard of any / many 2011’s snapping. And I absolutely love it! 4 days from snap to replacement being in shop is the only silver lining.

I will be completely gutted if V3 goes. And bloody livid.

Just an update on my slightly whingey:

Replacement last time took 13 weeks. Hoping for better this time.

This time took 4 days. That’s more like it.

As of yesterday – perfect conditions really (was snowing again as I was leaving though). Some of the trails (red&blue) are clear of snow (esp lower and under trees) – rest have crunchy snow but generally grippy. A few icy patches – easy to spot. Had the place to myself I think!

Car park ok too – including the steep hill. Buzzards is closed apparently.

When you’re in the arse end of nowhere and unwell, you look up at EBC and think to yourself – thank f I’m not up there with ASDA insurance (or whatever cheaper thing springs to mind).

Dont skimp. We flew back with Yeti (yep!) airlines. They dont even bother scraping the smashed airframes off the pad. We had a swiss guy in a bad way with us flying back. Took up quarter of the craft ‘tween him and his carers. I have no idea what it cost but he wasnt too bothered. Kept apologising to us for the inconvenience!

We had bmc at the time. Never claimed though.

    What’s a t120?

Wonders “Can I sneak one in without an earbashing”?

Also wonders – “where’s that spare £800?” I wish! Jeez £8 would be good.

    Somebody’s going to say it:

    A pair!

There. Move on. Next. Make your own mind up etc.

Anyway, from me- what’s her budget – really. Or it this a “I’ve been good all year and am buying an X… for myself”? present.

The financial loss is nothing to do with you – its their problem. “Ideally”.

Realistically – your account may be frozen. I had this done for totally innocent reasons and paypal were the biggest royalest muder flipping buggers, heel dragging, cow’s ass lickers to ever deal with.

If you rely on paypal to any extent then I’d honestly suggest getting another paypal account set up. You’ll need a different card number.

Or it could go all sweetness and light and you’ll be fine.

(apologies for breaking all the rules I’m try to avoid)

jwab – I love my super 4. Cant compare to meta’s sorry. It climbs very well with a 120 fork – not as goat like as some racy frames – but v good. Just dont buy an 09!

Size – I’d say size up. It a tad on the shortish side of average – if that helps you. I was borderline m-l (5-10). Got a L (used a 70mm stem). For the 1st warranty (09 model) I asked for a M. I have to use a 100mm stem to feel comfy. Should have stuck to an L.

Some RS forks have one that looks like a figure of 8 (sort of an hourglass) that you have to slide off the bottom of the rod rather than push off the side. Others have the C shaped one like in the picture above. Both do the same job I guess.

The cant fall off the bottom as they have a piston below them. If the C one snaps on securely you should be good to go.

Thanks non-cutlery-guy (why oh why did we come up with these usernames). I think we’re going the use the forks we have (as they’re new) and skinny tyres. But it’s up to Mick really. Hopefully he can post up later.

Time for another mini – update. No pics this time, but I managed a bit of a fundamental booboo on the forks (: –

I never checked if they were road or mtb disk forks. I just assumed disk = mtb. Doh. Turns out they’re too narrow for the tyres we were planning.

But – more good will – Dave at Schwalbe is providing tyres, tubes and rim tape. Fantastic! Of course I’ve always loved Schwalbe tyres : cause they’re the best! And we may have some new brakes on the way too: touch wood.

Also thanks to Chipps for the contacts!

Hopefully Mick will have more photos soon.

I’d only really consider a few drinks out on a ride if I could have the car to drive home in afterwards.

    LOL. I hope.

tbf – druid – with us its our own spending money and the “this old thing?” is almost a game. She buys god knows how many shoes / handbags / hairdo’s and I prefer not to know how much – as that it obviously a total waste of money.

Which reflects her view on what I buy.

If you dont want to print photos then a mono-laser works out cheaper, is quicker etc etc.

2009 Meta 5.5. Not had one but have some advice:

What warranty does it come with? Can you live without it for a month or two if the warranty is required? Beaware that the distributer changed since this was imported and the shop will have to deal with Commencal direct for any replacement (I’m in that boat at the moment – again). Replacement last time took 13 weeks. Hoping for better this time.

2010 onwards are much much more relialbe (apparently).

I think that might be a bit harsh? I slated them in that post – but mine were from years back. They now appear to have fixed their main flaw.

As for a constructive answer – for all but the coldest of cold days, or complete deluges I love these (in the mans version).

Option 3: Freesat (/Freesat+ and more lnb(s) in the dish for the extra room). Note – not sky’s freesat but “bbc” freesat.

Needs a sky type dish (you probably have this already) and a new freesat box / boxes. Cost maybe £300 ish one off but no subscriptions ever.

At a guess from what you say you would need to replace the lnb in your existing dish, run an extra cable from that to your main tv (for the plus bit), run another cable to your extra room.

Of course you would loose those sky channels.

May sound complicated – but really easy in reality. Any more Q’s then just ask

#Edit – I just made that sound complicated. If you replace the doofer on the stick sticking out of your existing dish and run another/more cables from the doofer to the rooms you want to watch tv in then you can do this for a one off payment (for the freesat boxes) with no subs. You can also get the HD/record/pause/rewind stuff with no subs – if you buy the right boxes. But you dont get the Sky1,2,Sports.. channels.

    I liked my intempo thingy,

We got one of those (reconditioned). I love it – but after googling why it seems to freeze every now and again I notice it seems to have a common problem with the power supply. On the plus side – cheap as chips and sound is great. I dont have great hopes for it’s longevity.

Cost wise: prepare to bend over and take it I’m afraid. Unless you know anyone in the North and you could have it collected from there (parcelforce it to NI is same price as rest of the uk). That’s what I tend to do anyway.

Where abouts does it need to go?

#Edit: this looks good pricewise. Never used them mind – or even heard of them.

some sort of triangulation at the back

I believe so – as per the diagram – a seatstay and forward brace.

And yes – it does look a bit like a trials bike! That was one of the ideas from the original thread. Just with 26″ wheels and a saddle.
