The stupid thing is he took it in there for a gel saddle to be put on how much more do they want…

Who took it in to the shop for a gel saddle to be put on? Your dad / the thief?

Any more suggestions for a name?

Also does anyone know a place to get some decals done inside a week – I can design it?

This is my favourite: the idea of it, the write up and the photos all ace! :

It seems taka seems to have issues with Cycle Recycle, i hope he really has had a bike stolen and isn’t just trying to tarnish their reputation. I hope to be proved wrong but if not how low life a scumbag do you have to be to bad mouth a charity?

I sincerely hope that you are entirely wrong.

Thanks for all the comments guys. The kindness of strangers is pretty amazing at times!

I genuinely am excited about seeing it in the flesh now!

I was thinking of getting some decals made for it – I dont know if it would be done before Christmas – maybe I can add them later.

So – any ideas for a name? I was thinking the obvious: “Rushton” or as martinxyz above said “Braw”.

This really brings a warm fuzziness to my insides,

Are you sure that wasnt the mulled wine?

Is there anything else you need?

Thanks SpeshPaul – I dont think so. But the last time I said that – turned out we did.

Daft Q time. Did you get a hose with the compressor? If so what type? What connectors on the hose? Pump side and tool side?

If you’ve no hose – well – there is no way (normally) you’d connect the inflator direct to the compressor.

If in any doubt, I’d wander into your local machine mart. A knowledagable but thoroughly grumpy lot.

So – an update. Got these photos from Mick today. God I’m like a kid at Christmas now. And it’s not even my bike!

Also a major thanks to Magura – we’re getting some dogs danglies brakes from them. Fantastic.

#Edit – and a major – no mega – thanks to Mark at http://www.superiorpowdercoatings.co.uk who did the powder coating for free!

Hopefully arrives in Edinburgh Wednesday, gets built up, drive / ferry to nephews – on Thursday night / Friday (gets a mince pie), sleeps Saturday.

Stanfree – Thanks for the test drive and the tour- I really enjoyed it.

I felt right at home on the bike from the off so anyways- order just placed for an 18.5 – should arrive before the New Year!

    Thanks again!

Boolies are great (I get them every year now for Christmas!) and whilst well warm – they’re not uber warm. Their big advanage is that you can wear them in normal shoes etc.

Those 2.x TOG socks on the other hand (link doesnt work but I think I know the ones you mean) are HOT! But you’d need shoes 3 sizes bigger to fit.

    Bast***s.

Thats the second post from Glasgow in as many days for damn nice bikes being nicked.

Keep an eye on gumtree etc. It’s pretty distinctive though – it may be broken down for selling.

You have no contact details in your profile btw.

So – neninja – is there anything we can do to help the OP – or at least at least anything that we can do to piss this guy off / warn others / etc?

Or anything we can lure him into divulging his address?

    Genuinely – lol!

I’m sure someone will be offended, but – LOL.

I can speak fluent Swahili but I haven’t a clue what your’e on about!!

Harddisks are now the equivalent of CRT TVs. SSDs are the trailing edge replacement – better (faster) and also worse (tech so far fails – or more likely fades- eventually, but possibly catastrophically).

Dont worry about it. Unless you buy one. Then get to grips blistering performance – along with backups etc.

Well – there’s Deuste mark (sp?) – which I wouldnt go back to.

Howard Johnson (ferry road area) – not used personally but got recommended so might try.

However from experience there’s a wee place on Queensferry road. Great for older bmw’s ime and has a Q of mercs (I’m not old enough for a merc yet 😉 ). Always – ALWAYS- busy though – so ring in advance. Small place. Dont expect coffee and wifi 😉

For a small local business – I think Cash or Paypal is fine. But the rest of that page is a bit waffly.

The other thing – I hope this isnt me hassling you – 80% of what you are selling with this type of work is : yourself – as a reliable nice trustworthy guy who knows what they’re doing.

It’s different to a bricks and mortar shop (like the great TBC!) – they have a different marketing objective.

So – you dont mention your name hardly / at all. Even on the contact page – I dont know who to ask for if I phone you.

I can only add – on bikes that are subject to pedal strikes – ever few mm here and there adds up to an important log / rock that you miss (and maybe saves you a trip to A+E).

    So what worked for me:
    – shorter cranks
    – more fork and shock pressure (not ideal)
    – thinking ahead
    – bigger tyres (think rubber queens)
    – loose weight
    – get a new frame

Ok – I never got as far as the last 2.

In answer to your opening Q- yes you will probably notice it. It might be better or worse for pedalling depending on what you’re used to.

Chewitt – welcome to the forum.

I think it’s nearly there. Get a photo of yourself on the home page – standing by van, riding the bike or something your customers will click with.

There is too much text. Page under construction stuff etc..you know the rest..

Wont comment on price. And you know that on here – those links are classed as spam and may well be removed – no matter how well intentioned you may be. You still got a chance (9 more mins to edit your post) to cut it down to one link – that might look a bit better.

Oh- and the very best of luck with your enterprise.

From your list: Whytes are nice to own and ride. Great backup etc. Not had a 905 – but a 19.

As for off the wall / fantasy : what about one the German brands?

    eg http://www.canyon.com/_uk/mountainbikes/bike.html?b=2542

    £1300, 10.6kg.

The carbon version (albeit twice the price) reviewed here:
    http://www.bikeradar.com/gear/category/bikes/mountain/product/review-canyon-grand-canyon-cf-9-0-11-40105

Rose also do their own brand stuff that also looks great value.

If you can get a screwdriver in BEHIND one of the pads,

Gosh – I would have said the opposite. Its better to damage the pad surface than the piston surface surely. Or maybe just dont use a screwdriver.

Untimately though you will need to force the pads / pistons apart. Are you sure the lever is back in its normal / un-braking position? Have both front an rear done this whilst off bike / in storage?

    Thanks Stanfree! That sounds ideal.

A spin up and down the driveway + kerb / or your sideroad would do it for me – and whenever that suits you. Its just a sizing Q really.

btw – I’m wondering if we’ve met before?

Oh – are you happy with it?

I’ll drop you a mail to organise.

    What’s a stuff sack?

Like Santa uses. Generally waterproof. And a lot smaller. And doesnt scare kids as much.

The EVO hubs are good. The rims are good. I’ve got them on 2 different rear wheels.

I’ve heard some complaints of the SS builds but luckily mine (on SS AM rims) have been fine. I’ve had more bother with my hope hubs TBH (squeaky seal, worn bearings, breaking pawl springs).

Apologies for a slight hijack – of the thread resurrection: is there anyone in the lothians / borders area who could let me throw a leg over a medium (or a large)? In return for biscuits / beer obviously!

And any recent opinions obviously appreciated too.

Mick – there aint no deadlines – honestly. Andrew’s got photos of where things are at and I think is a bit humbled at your efforts so far.

If it’s done in the new year – or his birthday – or even if its not finished at all – that’s still 100 times better than where he was a month ago.

Anyways – mailed you for a chat.

Thanks for the ideas guys – sorry for the delay responding – busy day.

I knew there would be some stuff I would never have thought of!

Some 2011 bargains around too! mmm.

Only cheapo advice from me – dont get a rwd first. Proper pants browning. Especially when you might not realise the price of folk’s fences, hedges and sheds – from personal experience.

Any sporty fwd – good for a laugh. Makes you look sensible. Dont buy anything precious for your first car – you may well dent it whilst parking etc etc. Or someone else will and you’ll realise that NCB is worth a lot.

Where are you / the bike located? I’ll come and have a look if you’re local to me.

    Plus 1.

Selling bikes is a paranoid game.

I once told a guy no bloody way he was getting a test ride. He went fair enough. He asked – can you ride it round to my best mates – he’s a traffic copper in N Queensferry.

No problem I said – rode round – had a tea, a chat, more tea, biscuits, left with a few K in my pocket and they even dropped me home. It all had a good vibe.

If you’re determined to spend money then maybe:

    ebay item number: 200660816224

    Sorry direct link doesnt work.

£15. I used it in a campervan. Long lead so gets used for all sorts of stuff. A flouro tube- proper bright, wont run your battery down. There are probably better led versions.

Smooth. Every time you touch those brakes* it means you havent thought ahead and burnt unnecessary fuel building up unnecessary speed. So a polar bear dies.

    *except in an emergency.

Also- sometimes STW people are a bit scary. There’s probably a queue of people outside his front door right now with a range of Bombers from 888s to Z1s, and some of the more enterprising ones will have figured out how to set them on fire.

    😆

LOL for the scary bit. Also sometimes – they’re pretty awesome.

Sadly – I suspect the “call back Monday” means – “give me a day or two to get a new mobile number”.

I do hope you get it sorted.

Also someone remind me to never piss neninja off. You do know MI5 are recruiting folk with those skills? Proper impressed you made the effort.

For fish, steak,… kind of food – done well:

    Wildfire Restaurant and Grill
    192 Rose Street

Newish place. You have to book though. Always always busy.

Note – Howies in the west end is no more.

Ambrose – sorry but you wont get a whole lot of fans on here.

I may be totally wrong – and slap my wrists- but that shi t was sold in the uk by a certain retailler. I still got one that the seller (not so long ago was super star ish) says that the us distributer will sort it, the US distributer says the the super shitty distributer will sort it.

Anyway, good luck. I will never buy another. But still I happily buy cheap brake pads etc from them.

In the mean time- I suspect you might be a spam bot type?
