First there’s two Freesats: Sky’s and “the BBC’s” (for want of a better description).

I don’t know about the sky version.

Panasonic do TVs with inbuilt Freesat. The “Smart” versions seem proper expensive though.

I know you dont want a separate box but an external Freesat recorder ( pause, rewind, record without having to wait for the lower quality iplayer version) is great.

Either way the dish, cables etc will be the same as what you have now (note if you want to record – you’d currently have to have Sky+ with the twin cable from the dish)

The odds of Lymes are small. But as I know someone who got it from one bite (walking a dog near Edinburgh) and seeing how devastating it is, I’d not be taking too many chances. I count my previous piggyback buddies as a caution.

#Edit: Cut and paste from Wiki: Not trying to alarm or anything. If in doubt, get it checked, especially as its easily fixed if not ignored and diagnosed early.

Early symptoms may include fever, headache, fatigue, depression, and a characteristic circular skin rash called erythema migrans (EM). Left untreated, later symptoms may involve the joints, heart, and central nervous system. In most cases, the infection and its symptoms are eliminated by antibiotics, especially if the illness is treated early.[6] Delayed or inadequate treatment can lead to more serious symptoms, which can be disabling and difficult to treat.[7]

lanky – that’s a great post – thanks: I’ve book marked it for the future.

I doubt I’m the only one confused a bit though. Unless you’re sitting on the downs then surely an out of the way / lower saddle would have to help.

Have you got space to put a boiler?

How far is it from the gas mains? The water mains? Electrics? A waste pipe (for the condensate)?

As spooky alludes to – most of the cost is in labour. So if you can do the rads and pipe yourself then you’re maybe (MAYBE) knocking that quote in half.

Also bear in mind, when you come to sell the flat it should be worth more than a flat with no CH.

Personally I dont know. Are you on a cheap / off peak tarriff for the current storage?

I think Jodafett is referring to the weekend road closures in town for the marathon. Including London road / Leith. Definitly give yourself some extra time and maybe consider walking the last part if required.

    Whereabouts is the meeting?

Well on mine there is a fair bit of “free” pull before anything happens. Maybe go and ride them – get them bedded in and warmed up see what you think then.

And yes, fine brakes. Especially the no faff aspect once you’re up and running.

Did you have to bleed them? If so did you push the pistons back?

Also what does the free stroke screw do?

It differentiates them from slx’s on the spec sheet. Otherwise SFA.

There isn’t a “right way” with hope 3 bolt rotors. They are symmetrical (but ok there may still be an arrow). But you can probably relax on that point. Photos would be good though.

Apparently not – but that’s the thing, it’s not worth a geezer getting his photo taken for £120. A car, boat, …. then yes it happens. But I dont think it’s the case here.

    Paypal and collect scam:

Thing is that’s only worth doing for high value items really.

More likely there are a lot of idiots out there bidding over the odds (not that I’ve ever been one of them, not me, oh no….) so I’d guess you’ll be ok.

    Viciously eh?

    I hope you’re ok!

I had a rear 3 bolt (HH XC3) rotor badly warp in a modest descent one day. It didnt inspire a lot of confidence in the front.

    Any photos?

Do the Dualit users not get irritated by the noisy timer?
Ovbiously not, as I’ve no idea what your’e on about!

Nope. they’re not irrated. They’z dead by the time the toast is done.

If you want your toast done in the century you started it off then dont get a dualit. We got one as a wedding present and honestly its some sort of toast time machine.

Honest advice – a free Which subscription is – well free for the first month. They always have recent toasters, kettle etc.

Dualit dont average out well. At all.

Presta or Scrader? Threaded or non – threaded cartridges.

Not that it’ll make a lot of difference either way. You’ll still feel robbed at the price.

    Hi Paul – I’m good.

I will admit that as a gang of lads on a retiring party we may have attracted some unworthy attention. I’ve also been again with my missus and we had no issues at all. It may be random. But – yes – there may be a reputation.

Its a great city but I can never get over the fact that my work colleague was mugged or robbed 4 times in a 4 day break. That’s undoubtably freaky, but it did sharpen the rest of us up to not looking too touristy / wealthy. Doubt that helps you too much, but still maybe turn the caution button one and have photocopies of all your passports just in case (that was the biggest ball ache – getting home).

And I’m not saying that doesnt happen in London / Manchester etc, just that it happened in Barcelona. Maybe we’re mugs – who knows.

The easiest to find on Lothian road (its kind of sign that I start with that – isn’t it?) is Ghandi’s (right on the corner with East Fountainbridge). As an aside no alcohol sold or allowed. Food’s fine, nice service.

Nearbly Kushi’s is better. Further – Ignite.

Also cavalry club but that’s my least favourite. And expensive.

I think you remove the original rubber strap, then leave the pins in the watch. The bike mount is the same as the clip thing on the velcro strap – except shaped for bars and has room for cable ties. So to change from bike to run you’d need to use the velcro strap.

Mine just stays on the bike all the time though so I’ve never actually done it.

Anyway the rubber straps are yours if required.

Just to be clear – you mean the watch strap part? Not the HRM?

If so I’ve got one spare you can have – barely if ever used. No pins tho as far as I remember (they get used on the bike mount?)

For some reason I thought the Stig had posted. Doh.

Running a business from home: how many visitors? Will you collect the dogs? Do you live in town?

You might need to check with your council. They tend to have guidelines on home businesses that are based on common sense.

You’ll certainly be obliged to tell your home insurance. Probably car / van too. You may need professional insurance (indemnity etc).

Also, its a good idea to run this past your neighbours. If they complain you’re in for a hiding.

#Edit – I’ve no experience of the dog side of things. But as an absolute minuimum – neighbours, house insurance, council.

For the finance side, I’d suggest in the fist instance asking your accountant.

Cost of “owership” will depend on the companies cash available, how long you’ve been trading (seems to effect the deals / rates you get), your personal tax situation (higher / lower rate) and how likely you think you’ll be able to hand it back pristine, what extras the lessor charges for dealing with parking tickets etc, ……..

A loan might be a better deal. Or buying nearly new. Or, well, it depends on your situation.

The advice I got has varied over the years / circumstances.

Its a tad boring I know. But some stuff works out really expensive in a short space of time.

I’d agree with superficial on all these points:

Mine was OK. Just OK, not fantastic.

£30 in Nov 2011, can’t really complain at that price. But I’m going to.
Very spotty light. Too spotty for the bars as an only light, and not ideal as a head light either. You can only light up a 1′ square patch 6 feet or so from your front wheel. 1600 lumens is brilliant for seeing across to the next valley, mind.

    And

Brilliant as an intro to night riding. Worth it 100%

So for the cost – go for it. Honestly, getting out in the dark is the bestest investment in off road biking ever. Your next step up is a wider beam for the bars.

I have 2 pairs of Zymes. I’m waiting for them to die whereupon I wound not buy another pair.

Stitching on rear pockets has failed on both despite never putting anything in there. The front popper thing is rubbish. They are a bugger to keep up (maybe that’s my shape) as there’s no elastic really. They are tough though, and shrug off brambles / crashes. They also dry quick, but as above “feel” like a heavy fabric.

timbo, DT wheelsets aren’t very clear what hubs they use. But visually / logic you’ll get there. Any chance you can look on here to recognize your hubs?

    http://www.dtswiss.com/Components

Click on “hubs mtb”. That should help a fair bit.

And lastly, they’res a chance its not actually a DT hub. So maybe a photo of yours would help if you’re stuck.

    Keep quiet FFS!

I was walking to work one day along a canal and noticed the lady in front of me had managed to tuck the bottom of her skirt inside here pants. Anyway I debated for a while before I decided to “do the right thing” and let her know. Well I got the biggest bollocking ever for staring at her bum or whatever she thought I was doing. I guess she was embaressed and maybe overreacted a bit.

pinkfish – welcome to the forum. I hope your problem is sorted.

It’s somewhat stange to me that the only 2 users who I’ve ever seen on here complain like that have both been new users – and the only thing they’ve ever posted about is Canyon bashing.

Anyway, it may well be true.

I’ve got a Canyon, it arrived before they said it would, they answered all queries before and after the sale promptly and in what I’d call a friendly manner. I have no problems recommending them to anyone willing to accept the direct selling approach – and the downsides that can bring.

If that’s not you – then I’d say cancel the order. I’m sure they’ll happily refund you before they ship it (because they’ll even refund you after you’ve had it for a test ride).

I dont know about all their entire range but reverbs from the continent are certainly warrantied in the uk. The only “snag” is that you need to ask a uk shop to return it for you. To Fishers that is.

This is a cut n paste from an earlier post:

Whats your budget? You on cable or asdl?

Im no expert but our old O2 one died recently so I did some digging. Came across this and got one for about £90. There are different variants of the same thing for just router, asdl router, cable router but you should find them easy enough (they seem to vary from £50 – £90 depending):

    http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/wireless-routers/1285564/netgear-n600-wireless-dual-band-gigabit-adsl2-modem-router

Its range is at least twice of anything we had before, it’s dual band (for modern devices like an S3), its got 2 usb ports (for a printer and say a harddrive for backups / nas), guest networks, gigabit and usb3 (for faster backups), parental settings, …. and is a doddle to setup and use.

I’ll stand by it – if you’ve got 50 – 100 gbp to spend. You’ll need the asdl version.

My missus uses them and is happy.

The only issue-ette she had is that there’s a “credit limit” for when you go over your allocated mins / data (on pay monthly – so not directly relevant to you). For her it was around £60. She was abroad at the time and they cut her off until she sorted it (fair enough really). Thing was to sort it she had to do PAYG top ups. The chaps on the phone were super helpful but they couldnt settle the balance – it had to be top-ups. But the most she could do on their system was £20 iirc. Anyway her credit card company got suspicious on her 2nd top up in as many minutes and the card was stopped.

Overall though – she’s still with them and I’d happily switch to them. I’m not sure if their support is also with O2 – I suspect it is but they knew their stuff anyway (UK based too).

Which hub? Or wheelset. Ideally the hub.

    Oh, front or rear?
