LOL got 2 batteries with me if I have to ride up each time it’s no biggie, as for lifting the bike on it’s a fair point as had to carry it 100yards across a trail the other day and about killed me ;)

LOL it’s win win for me tbh, as a complete novice there is no expectation and if we’re being fair my mate owes me an awful lot of payback for 15-20 years on motorbikes…

Start thinking like a rich successful person which you have to be to ride an ebike and buy a new one each year so no worry about the salt 😁😁, no need to listen to all those haters who didn’t take notice at school so are still on clockwork bikes………

The only aggression and anger I’m seeing is from non ebike riders, tbh and then it’s only on a forum and not out in the real world where we all just get along, usually as twice now someone has given me the **** sign and mentioned ebike despite my politeness, personally I ignore it but I always think it’s a dodgy move insulting someone you don’t know in the middle of some trail as not everyone is as easy going as I am.

Aha that’s it I’m in the useless bimbler mob. Phew I have a home at last 😀 so what’s the etiquette for letting the fast non ebikes pass me ?, they will be passing won’t they ?

There’s a lot of anger here, I can only imagine being non ebikers that you get upset as the world cup events have limited entry numbers so a lot of you miss out on being in your rightful place amongst other world class riders and have to slum it at a trail centre.

I’m very confused as I have a normal bike and an ebike and don’t know which ‘mob’ I belong in :(

Had a Jaguar XF recently when my C class got damaged, I kept it one day before sending it back, the throttle gearbox and engine just don’t communicate, it would pull off in 2nd gear slowly from a standstill by default, it was never in the right gear ever and weirdly would drop to 1st gear entering roundabouts, the media system was shit and there was a whine like an A series gearbox always faintly in the background. By far one of the worse cars I’ve ever been in. Buy the BMW 😁

I’ve got 2 bosch motor’d ebikes. I derestricted one as I wanted to see what it was all about. You can turn the restriction on or off with one press on the controller. Problem being even with it turned off you are still on an unrestricted bike, if you are happy with that then it does make a huge difference. On tarmac you can hold 25-30mph easily, downhill my gearing ran out at 37mph and it was easily achieveable. However to anyone that sees you it is really obvious the bike isn’t restricted. It does really eat into battery life as well. On trails it is very easy to go too fast and end up in trouble, 30mph feels very quick on tight trails through the woods.

I’ve removed mine now as I wasn’t happy being ‘illegal’ and didn’t like how it compromised battery life. I would like the limit to be 20mph not 15mph as it makes a difference but tbh 15.5mph is enough in most places and gives decent battery life. I’d advise just buying an ebike anyway and leave as it is

I love my ebike as I get to go as quick as the top 10% of people I see on strava on their clockwork bikes, the other 90% just get in the way wheezing and puffing their way up hills and then using none of their lightweight advantage going downhill so still in the way. Hopefully there will be some ebike only trails so we can get on with going fast and not have the slow people on clockwork bikes clogging the trail up, there is no fun in going slow it’s all about the speed man :)

I bought a new ebike last year, I’d never have bought a normal mtb as my 10 year old one is fine as an ornament 😁, I liked my ebike so much I’ve bought another one and I’m now out 4 or 5 times a week. I am now considering a replacement for my 10yr old normal bike but it’ll be a £1500 bike no more, I’ll always use my ebikes as they give me the speed I need to enjoy my riding…..I don’t enjoy just riding for riding sake I need the buzz of speed. Was the same with my motorbikes tbh

Private land and you only want to have a 250w motor ? wtf ?

Cube refer to all their ebikes as hybrid, they’re referring to the motor being there not that they are a hybrid bike in the traditional sense

I’m sure fitness is playing a massive part too, I’m also reading and watching everything I can to improve my technique. With motorbikes I just used to get on them and ride them and it was good enough to get me a few trophies in my time, but starting this at 50 I thought it best to read up and watch some stuff to get an idea ;)

The mtb(e) journey is continuing and I’m gaining knowledge and speed as it goes. The list of places and trails to visit is growing too !

Having been on my hardtail ebike for a couple of weeks I’ve had prob 8 rides out so time to get used to it and track my progress. Using my local sherwood pines as I know it well he HT has been quicker in a fair few sections. It definately slides more which I put down to the tyres (smart sams) and it definately picks up quicker and is easier to pedal once assist stops, I’ve since learnt this is because of the tyres so gaining knowledge. The FS has minions on it and they def have a lot more grip although I assume a lot more drag. Today I got my FS bike back and the standard rockshox RL which had broke on a jump have been replaced by a set of Fox rhythm 34’s. I have to say they feel superb and there was no harsh kicks or bumps coming through to me, I took the same jump that damaged the rockshox at the same speed and it landed smoothly and without drama. Couldn’t compare times as today was muddy and icy but on a couple of sections I beat my previous time for the FS bike but not as quick as the HT bike, these being smoother less rough sections. Can only think going down them faster on the HT has dragged me faster on the FS.
I’m almost at the stage I wanted to be having started this 4 months ago and can stop comparing times although hit does add a bit of interest, I’m glad to have found enough speed to make a trail entertaining and glad to have found a sport to replace motorbike racing and trackdays. Won’t be long before I’m on a non ebike too as fitness is increasing quite a lot :)

Bit of a thread hijack but thanks for the advice on my bikes and tyres, I’m new to all this so basically just ride what is under me. I can now see how the tyres make a difference and I’m learning stuff as I go. I was kind of enjoying the HT tyres sliding more but having got my FS bike back complete with better forks I’m amazed how much grip I have and how good the forks are, loads to learn and I’m taking it all in :)

I’ll try and answer as I have both, they both have the same Bosch CX motor and battery which is my preferred motor.
I originally bought the FS one in October and knowing no different I used it for all my riding at my local trail centre sherwood pines, it has been superb and I wouldn’t have changed it for anything else until I had to send it in for warranty work on the forks which broke from a heavy landing. I didn’t want to be without a bike for 2 weeks and I had been thinking of trying a hard tail so I bought a basic Cube reaction which had been reduced massively in the sales.
Without stating the obvious on the rougher parts of the trail it is less comfy and I have to ride with more respect for the bike, it also only has 100mm travel on the forks and it more of an XC bike. On the plus sides it picks up speed a lot quicker and is a lot better on the climbs. I’ve fitted a suspension post and a more padded seat and tbh I can see it being my preferred bike when the going isn’t as rough. It also has a couple of miles more range than the FS and is much easier holding a cruise at speeds over the 15mph limit of the motor.
Interestingly looking at strava times for Sherwood pines red route my best on the FS was 38mins, I haven’t done a full dry run on the HT but in some sections it has been massively quicker than the FS, mainly in the climbs and longer flat sections but surprisingly in a couple of downhill bits. I think the pines red being more of a trail suits the HT a bit more tbh but even so I was surprised it was close never mind quicker.

Although you have a motor the HT should be considered as you get more range and speed above motor assist comes easier. I’d think long and hard about the type of riding you are going to do and choose that way

My near 6 year old has just got a Cuda CP20, local shop leant us one as a demo and it was perfect, loads of room to last a couple of years and being geared it’s very easy for her to pedal. She’s managed a few 6 mile rides so far without getting too tired.

You could buy a three PAYG sim here and have it on feel at home terms. This means any calls, data etc you have here work in america for no extra cost. It’s what we did when we went on holiday there

After 3 T5’s and the last one being nothing but trouble 4 years ago I bought a Nissan Elgrand import for £5k, it was used for motorbike transport initially but now it’s used for mtb transport, with 4 seats in place I can get 4 built bikes and people in. It’s still worth £5k now and has been reliable, downside is 24mpg, plus side is 250hp V6 and a lot of comfort

I use a Garmin edge explore, gpx tracks can be uploaded to it on the PC and followed on the Garmin. I use ViewRanger to plot tracks and convert to gpx first. The Garmin also connects to the phone with Bluetooth to upload rides and sync with strava if needed.

It’s been great to get out and ride with mates like weeksy who I wouldn’t otherwise be out with. As well as myself another mate needing fitness has joined in too.

LOL both ebikes, but importantly getting me out there and thinking about a normal bike too

I ride regularly at sherwood pines on my ebike and manage 3 or 4 laps a week of the red route as a starter to the riding, I’ve never seen another ebiker being rude and if and when I catch a clockwork bike up I’ll sit behind until they are happy to let me by, it’s not a race so there is no issue. The only aggresiveness I have come across was one rider on a normal bike, didn’t want to let me past which is fine but hurled abuse at me for going uphill so fast. I made sure I passed him close on a downhill section where his bike has the advantage :)
Why do I ride ?, it’s simple it’s for the extra speed I get having assistance, I don’t ride to get fit and enjoy the trails more having the help. I’ve only been ebiking since October having had a normal bike since 2007, time, other hobbies and now a young family meant it never got used. Now when I have a couple of hours I can go and get me an adrenalin fix in between the things normal life requires of me. Since doing this 2 or 3 times a week I have dropped 1/2 stone and gained fitness. So much so I can now enjoy a ride on my normal bike with the family. But I am addicted to the ebike there’s no going back here :)
