I bought a low mileage bmw 320 LPG car, similar economy to diesel but no DMF, DPF, EGR, HP fuel pump & injectors, turbos etc to worry about. Its also a timing chain but is a manual so still has a clutch to change at some point.

Downside is it has a small ish range of ~200 miles and the rear dampers are worn out, probably from the extra weight of the lpg tank.

I considered cutting up an existing frame just for parts, either from the tip or an XL 45650b, I know I wont get around to it though so would rather just buy a Cotic and spend my free time riding. Maybe a winter project in a few years.

Sounds like your planning to do a proper job though

I bought two saddles based on this, will try it out over the weekend.

I inherited one of those saddles on a £20 ebay commuter, didn’t know it was lidl. Comfiest saddle I’ve ever ridden, I’ve lent the bike out and had the same comment.

Might be persuaded in to buy another.

Has anyone fitted a bottle cage?

I’m guessing a zefal or decathlon universal mount may be the best solution on the top tube or something mounted on the bars?

This is what we rode when I went to visit my brother. I borrowed his wifes xs hardtail so can’t really help with hire.

Bukit Timah, Butterfly trail and T15.

Pulau Ubin had some better riding but I never made it there.

afaik its won every group test its been in, the journo that said its flexy bought one but the latest frames have been revised to be a bit stiffer anyway. What other reviews have you seen?

I bought my frame used and as I say i’ve not ridden it yet but bird have been spot on when i’ve transferred the warranty. I never found time go and test ride one so have bought blind (except for reading everything I can about them).

I bought one but never used it (i dont do DH) so sold it on.

I noticed the Atherton’s all started wearing them after Dan broke his back/neck but they don’t seem to wear them anymore.

I bought my 45650B frame through them on ebay. It was in an overstock sale, hurry limited stock!

I had to file the paint out of the droputs and BB threads but otherwise its been fine and seems to ride nice enough for the money.

I snapped a chain so removed a link and added a split link which shortened the chain. I made a mental note not to use both big rings but every time I got home from a ride I was to tired to deal with it so just put it away in the garage. By the time I got it out again I’d forgot that it needed doing. This went on until I decided to sell the bike, again I forgot and testing the gears I banged it through the range and locked the back wheel up, snapping the mech and banging my clems in the process. Cost me £40 for a new XT mech just so I could sell the bike.

V-strom for your brother and a ducati/triumph scrambler for yourself?

    I’ve a 600 Transalp and will be selling a ’92 soon.

I’m running 24-38 front with a hope 40T t-rex, mainly because i’m to lazy to take the t-rex off. 1x is fine for a trail only bike but I often ride roads to get to/link up trails and theres some steep stuff in the peaks that I like to try and clear.

I bought a Redline MX24 Alloy cruiser race bike to practice some skills. All my nearest tracks are over an hour away though. I went to a meeting and it was heavily tailored towards kids, which I don’t have. I wasn’t that comfortable trying to jump around them in case I crashed into them so I’ve not been back since. I do remember though that it took about a week for my calves to recover so I could walk properly again.

My money would be on a genesis croix de fer 20. Can pick up last years for £700 so a little over budget but tiagra and spyres with a nice comfy steel frame

Not mine but basically the same.

Just looking at that i can see its going to be to tight. Its currently on a triple with a 44T. Looks like the best only option will be a cassette with a 10T

I’m currently on a similar set up. Think they’re arch ex with a maxxis worm drive up front and a wtb all terrainasaurus out back. The arch ex is wider than the wtb is rated for and its also running more pressure than the rim is rated for but its on a full suss that doesn’t get ridden hard and is also running tubes if that makes a difference.

I really struggled finding a tyre that seemed knobbly enough but also fast rolling and reasonable weight/puncture protection.

I’ve not measured but 27+ tyres will have a larger cross section minimising the bb drop?

I had a medium nomad but sold it as it was too short. I’m 5’10” so would always go large with a shorter stem on SC.

If its the frame I think it is it would have been sold ages ago if it were a large.

The LTC’s got rave reviews in What mtb. They said it would reset what you thought was possible and a true benchmark raising bike. It was the top pick in the charts at the mag for years but has been knocked off now

    Geometron?(except poor people)

On these calculations don’t forget that that’s net not gross, your paying tax and national insurance on the income so need to add ~30% on to compare salaries.

I’m doing 30 miles each way on steady A roads that takes about 50min’s. I thought i’d costed it at around £3k per year but using the HMRC model its 6.5k net or 10k off my salary. I do drive a 15 year old car though so haven’t factored in car depreciation.

Somethings got to change be it new house or new job.

Niner Jet 9, I’ve one I may be selling soon.

Can anyone tell me if the rear travel is adjustable on the geometron? There look to be chips and the spec sheet says High/low position but travel is just listed as 155mm. I’m currently running 150mm pikes that i’m happy with and it would save a good chunk of cash if i could keep them.

Also the website states “We also tailored the anti-squat to be just enough when you are in the gears used for technical climbs. In this way, the anti-squat falls away reducing the feeling of ‘hang-up’ on the bump edge as you shift into higher gears. This involved us specifying a higher main pivot in the first instance and allows a range of 30T, 32T or 34T chainrings and an individual ride height depending on your riding focus” What are the implications of running a 24/38T double crank?

    coppice

The upper pivot point cracked on the large mk1-1.5 frames. The upper link would foul on the weld of the clamshell top tube.

I had a medium mk1.5, it rode alright, didn’t particularly have an issue with bearings. Top tube was short and it was quite heavy. I sold it for near enough what I had in it and bought a canyon spectral which I get on with much better but I do miss the SC build quality.

The block just keeps the bike level for comfort and goes some way to stopping the bars twisting.

It’s probably clearer to picture if you reverse the situation. Incline the rear wheel and imagine if you could free wheel. If you cant then there’s no change in load.

A conveyor belt would free wheel so can change the resistance.

    coppice

Inclining a set of rollers wont add resistance, it’s more like wheelieing on flat ground.

On rollers the wheel is chocked in place by the rollers, if it weren’t you’d jump out of them so the concept of pedalling to stay on the roller is flawed.
