Rather than adding a nationality, I would rather just revoke my British citizenship. I don’t want to be part of it.

I think it’s a testament to freemarket capitalism that something so essentially simple and affordable can be made into something so wearyingly complex and expensive.

    Couple of bikey ones.

Ali Clarkson. Humble and talented trials rider with most videos filmed on the streets of Glasgow. An antidote to Red Bull.

Cycling Maven. A bit like a nicer version of Durianrider. He’s just quit his job to blog full time.

    The name.
    The price.
    The marketing.
The fact that it looks daft.

Being completely objective – this is the best song and the greatest ever performance:

Yep, it will be 1 1/8th.

That spec sheet linked above is really useful.
Good for spotting if original bits have been replaced over years with crappier things – like that chunky sadddle.

I would suggest getting shorter stem and slightly wider bars to give more modern look/feel. It’s easy to replace any of the drivetrain stuff – new cassette, chainring etc. Can also make it a 1x by removing big and small chainrings.

Weakest part of the bike is likely to be those old suspension forks. I switched mine for some rigid P2s off ebay. Brings overall weight down to around 23/24lbs.

    Think they’re ideal – light, sturdy, fun. I’ve got a 1998 Kona.

You can modernise it cheaply enough with shorter stem, wider bars, 1x etc.
Depends on what kind of riding you want to do but I’d suggest getting one with a rigid Kona Project 2 fork rather than anything with suspension.

    £99. What do I win?

Whilst it’s lovely to have it and all that, it’s pretty much useless

Depends what your attitude to life is.

If you think the only purpose of a language is to get a job then fair enough. But languages can also be ways to connect to the landscape, history, culture etc. They allow you to view the world through an alternative filter.

I was surprised and disappointed to see the stance taken by the bloke who does the Wings Over Scotland website:

Caerphilly mountain is becoming a centre of excellence for loonball trail saboteurs. Metal traps, barbed wire at neck height and even a former Welsh Secretary with his own attempt to maim people.

No problem. Although, I think you may have missed a couple.

So I’ve got an old Kona (98) with v-brakes.
If I had a budget of around £80, what could I get?
And would they be any better than what’s already on it (Mavic X138)?

    Pink Poppadom. Stylish Indian restaurant.
But I reckon you’re missing the best ones by avoiding Italian.

Ethel and Ernest. Animated film by Raymond Briggs about his parents.

Can’t find anything in the guides that explains it.

Not any particular group but Welsh language music in general.

As somebody who doesn’t speak Welsh, I find it weird how invisible it is. Any Welsh group can generally expect to be completely ignored by the media unless they sing in English.

John Peel was one of the few people to ever champion them.

Really like the look of them.
The one thing I can’t stand though is that white logo thing on the down tube. Is it easily removable?

    The correct answer is…Velvet Underground.
Not my favourite group but they are the best band ever.

Had a grim experience with Wiggle recently and a delivery that never got delivered – despite somebody, using my name, having signed for it.

Found their customer services to be rubbish.

Shared culture. shared legal systems, ties between citizens (hence why the UK has so many non EU immigrants, dont forget that until the 1960’s ALL commonwealth citizens had freedom of movement and a right to abide in the UK, remember that when you say Brexiters want to return to the 1950’s – yeah, get that in your head, we invented freedom of movement you whinging remainers!).

Yes, it brings a tear to the eye when you think of how Johnny Foreigner was so beguiled by the wonders of English/British culture that they willingly abandoned their own.

Peaked at around the age of 19 and everything post Jam has been dissappointing. Lost his accent and started to make dreary music.

Cost less than £100. It’s light and dead easy to maintain.

Only because some of you damn well keep beating that drum. You are one of the biggest culprits.

Yep, it’s people on a bike forum who are mostly to blame for the way the poppy campaign has become fused with British foreign policy and support for ‘our boys’.

Politicians and the media may have played some small role but it’s mainly bike forum users.

I ripped into you because you stated that the red poppy glorifies war.

Of course it glorifies war. It doesn’t have to, but that’s how it has been used by Westminster politicians and the UK media.

It has become a propoganda device to promote a nasty strain of British nationalism, one which harks back to days of empire; which glorifies and promtes the military and has utter disdain for anything non-British/English.

The poppy has become a way to publicly endorse the values of the Daily Mail.

I always find it very inspirational to watch people risk their lives for the benefit of a sugary drink. In a way, the bloke who broke his back embodies everything great about this caffeinated product.
