Copa, which Britishness?

My view of Britishness is that it’s indelibly linked to the British Empire and it’s essentially a rebranded form of Englishness.

It promotes an arrogant and ugly outlook of the world in which anything which isn’t British/English is inferior.

It promotes capitalism, militarism and monarchy. It has justified the destruction of languages and cultures.

And it’s alive and kicking.

Go to Bute Park. Tea/cake at Pettigrew Tea rooms. Have a stroll.
Get Aqua Bus – takes you along river to Cardiff Bay.
Have a look around – maybe go to Dr Who Experience.
Eat somewhere fancy in Bay.
Get taxi back into city centre. Lots of crafy ale type places to explore – Tiny Rebel is good.

There are some benefits to the arrival of our soccer overlords. The abandoned mountain bike which has been chained to a post in Bute Park for the past four years has finally gone.

Felt a bit sad when I saw the empty space. For the first few years it was left untouched. Then about a year ago somebody nabbed the back wheel. And now it’s gone.

Yep. When in public areas, I generally prefer not to ride so fast that I can’t avoid crashing into people and then acting like a self-entitled dickhead when I do. But horses for courses and all that.

I didn’t realise that when you buy an abusrdly expensive bouncy bike, it comes with a certificate allowing you to ride out of control and crash into people in public spaces. Nice one.

Watched Channel 4 news last night.
The usual shrill and hysteric coverage with pretty much no actual information. Completely avoiding basic journalistic stuff like:

What happened?
When did it happen?
Where did it happen?
Where is the footage from?
Who would do this?
Why would they do it?

But no time for any of that as Jon Snow went straight into barracking politicians about when they’re going to ‘take action’. Tried to like him and failed.
But I do like this footage from 1971 of him being a dick after finding a bootleg album in a Los Angeles record shop. Great 70s vibe with record store clerk standing his ground against rich whiny voiced superstar.

Although not meant to be a crash video as such, I’m really enjoying this lad doing his video analysis whilst learning to ride.

The closest thing Talking Heads came to doing a conventional love song. They got it out of their system with the first song of 77. And it’s cracking.
