blah just an expression… to be fair i would of been pretty chuffed if id managed to do it using the rod/washers

Tried to do it using the ghetto method.. steel rod and washers

But it just wasnt going in level for me – it kept looking too dodgy to continue

I ended up buying the Cyclus Headset Press and I was able to instantly fit it.. really happy with the tool.. would recommend it

Managed to get the lower race off…

Now just a case of deciding wether buy the stuff to fit the headset myself or go to a shop. The fork steerer needs cut down as well (this is new frame/forks).

Ah what tool do they use to fit and remove lower races in the shops?

hmm have to look into the threaded bar.. ordinary DIY stores sell that sort of thing?

Yeah cyclus one is 30ish squid good spot.

Yeah i saw a picture of a PA with pikes.. looked quite slack though?

I agree 100mm could be in danger of making it ridiculously steep…

gahhh just cant decide what to get

wondered about paying extra and getting Magura Thor or Van RLC with q15… but that means converting the front pro2 to 15mm (pain in arse?).

Hmm might be an idea mamadirt. Depends if they been ragged though? As you can get lower travel version (100mm) at CRC for only 50 quid more and things on ebay at various prices.

I’d quite like some forks soon as well. Since ive been waiting for a couple of months to build this frame (cash flow) – now this is sorted though.

The 140s on CRC look good… but I seem to remember reading negative things about the IT system… this might be BS/rumours.. but who knows?

Also i think TF Tuned dont service IT forks and madison = hopeless? . Don’t know how easy the IT forks will be to maintian/service in general.

Wouldnt it be mad not to accept it though RealMan?

As the interview for the good job, isnt a guarentee that they will ultimately offer it. Meaning I could run the risk of having niether.

factory type work.. assembly.. through a temp agency

yeah thats fair enough everyone is after different things

the main factors/criterea for me are price,reliability,20mm,adjustable travel, weight

im probably going to get the pikes unless i can get a decent second hand deal on one of the things im watching

weight came into it.. because i cant really afford to have 2 bikes or store 2 bikes.. so this will have to do on the road and other things as well as the odd weekend blast

    thanks for the responses

ive missed the deal on the revs (large reduction)

probably going towards the pike anyway… cheaper, coil and travel adjust takes it right down lower than the rev… possibly better reliability than air fork as well(?)

this bike will be my only bike and will be ridden on flat and roads sometimes..

maybe its just a case of man up for the extra weight 😆

certainly the pike to me looks like a fork that would work nicely on a large variety of bikes and in my case possibly other feature frames

Doing the threads inside is “chasing”?

thanks for the info.. prob fit it shortly

    Its a dialled PA.

    I say 120/100mm .. because i live in a very flat county..

The idea being with this frame i can take the bike almost anywhere in the UK.. but prob go for shorter travel because stuff here is tame and i sometimes ride on road for fitness (this will be the only bike i have)

Also i maybe moving to london in september..

Hairy have u got it still? My main concern was the axle to crown and riding 145mm sometimes on the flat

How sturdy is the FOX QR15 axle compared to 20mm? and how much improvement over normal QR for that matter.

    I have a hope 2 front wheel 20mm i could convert to 15QR using a kit.

Also seen Manitou Minute Elite 120mm 20mm going.

    Decisions 😆

Yeah it felt sketchy on my current bike last time i was in the peaks (a long time ago).. was running 1.9″ nokians.. the mx comps.. easton ultralite frame..

Want to build a bike that is more capable of that sort of stuff.. 456 and Vans definitely overkill riding down a road.. but im after a bike that is capable of donig lots of different things and can take around the UK

Ive looked at some recons.. but some are not Motion Control right? and for 300ish quid you’d want that.. I got the impression the Rev was superior to the Recon in most ways.. correct me if im wrong though

Read a lot of good things about the pike.. but it seems recently theyve gone up to 400 squid + .. when IIRC they were about 300 a few months ago on places like merlin/crc

That looks a decent deal cheers bob..

Not much talk on the Vans…

Much talk on the Revelations… Anyone ridden/used both?

The lowness of the Vans might not be a problem for me.. I live in a flat part of the country and sometimes ride just on roads and tame paths (for fitness) and would be doing so on this bike.. decent places require transport and prob at least an hour or two away

Reliability, the feel and servicing are important factors though

Ive currently got an 04 MX Comp 100mm ETA.. so im assuming both will be a lot better

Yeah cheers not an enormous difference then..

I’d probably be looking at the 20in as im about 6ft4 .. quite long legs and not heavy
