Scroll down here to see some ISO comparisons between

    Sony NEX-5
    Sony NEX-3
    Olympus EP2
    Panasonic G2

“How does the Sony NEX-5 compare to other recent SLDs? See the crops below.”

Ive got a G1 bought it over a year ago. Its nice, got kit lens and 20mm pancake.

But Panasonic glass isnt cheap – it is good though. Do you really want to be commited to that or this system. Which system? That is important.

Does the camera have to be small?

The NEX-5 is probably the best small interchangable camera right now.

Olympus seems to be very good value, and in-body stabilisation is a nice feature. Good for legacy lenses.

With all these cameras you should be able to mount other lenses using adapters from ebay.

Im not sure I want to invest any more in this system (Panasonic). I am damn tempted to move over to Pentax.

The K-x possibly to tide me over until the K-5 drops in price. Currys are currently flogging the K-x with the 18-55mm Zoom Lens & 50-200mm Zoom Lens for 400 quid. Insane deal. Reduced by 230 quid. effectively a free lens. Or maybe I should just go nuts and buy a K-5 😈

Another way to find jobs is to find an industrial estate or science park and research every company that appears on the list of companies at the site. Tedious I know, but something may come up. Not everything is widely advertised.

Can’t imagine any touch screen phone / big screen phone being great for biking..

N8 looks good to me for non-sport activities, OS looks very powerful, ok it doesnt have eye candy, but so what? Camera is best of any phone

Its data/networking capabilities are significantly better too than other phones, see link for comparison to Galaxy

    http://www.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=3252&idPhone2=3115

N8 + a cheap tough phone/phone you dont care about for biking perhaps?

if you read the review on DPReview, you’ll see the viewfinder cannot keep up with high shooting rates and movement, quite apart from wasting 30% of the incident light on the mirror…

and heres their summary of the a55 (which doesnt differ much, 10fps instead of 7 and 16MP instead of 14) – hardly sounds bad to me

The Sony SLT-A55 is an excellent all-rounder with a comprehensive feature set. The translucent mirror technology gives it an innovative touch and the best live view AF on the market. Continuous shooting performance is the best in its class – just don’t plan on shooting the Olympics with it.

the new Sony a33 (translucent mirror) will be decent for action shots

    http://www.sony.co.uk/product/dsi-body/slt-a33

Pentax k-x probably best DSLR for 400 quid

smaller interchangable cameras then maybe GF1 or Oly E-P1 or Sony NEX-3

DavidB this link explains it quite well…

You probably know that more megapixels doesn’t mean a camera is better – but it will get you a bigger print size.

You need to consider the physical size of the print you want and the DPI.

This is quite a handy site..

Im quite tempted to buy a K-x (for less than 400 with lens) even though I own a Panasonic G1. Probably sell the G1, if I do that.

If SLR is too big, probably looking at Olympus/Panasonic micro 4/3s systems.

Panasonic GF1, Olympus EP1 for example.

Possibly Sony NEX 3 (less lenses though).

If quality is the main concern perhaps Pentax K-x DSLR. Slightly smaller than a normal DSLR and will beat everything at that price (400 quid), but not as small as micro 4/3.

Maybe that was too stronger word.. I have a small car and live in the sticks.. Im not an eco warrior, but it does seem bad people buying stuff they really don’t need/use to anywhere near its full capability

Hard not to have an arguement on here 🙁

Satellites, aircraft bits, scientific instruments, lots of cars – and a load more stuff besides. Most of what we make is high tech.

We make cars… Cars for export? And these are british owned companies?

    😮

Forget the economy lets bring back TVR 😛 Lets gamble on that instead of futures in the city.

F1 yeah weve got a lot of teams here (mostly foreign owned?)… but will F1 remain a popular sport? Is it popular? Is it declining? A lot motorshports have been hit hard by the recession – sponsorship gone.

In 2003, manufacturing industry accounted for 16% of national output in the UK and for 13% of employment. This is a continuation of the steady decline in the importance of this sector to the British economy since the 1960s, although the sector is still important for overseas trade, accounting for 83% of exports in 2003. Manufacturing is an important sector of the modern British economy and there is a considerable amount of published research on the subject of the factors affecting its growth and performance. After the 2010 Recession it is one of the fastest growing sectors of the economy – experiencing a mini-boom.

Yes its wikipedia.. fred might have written it

Personally i think we are all doomed haha 😆

Real wealth is generated from digging things out of the earth, farming and manufacturing.

We used to make loads of stuff, what do we make now?

We should try to encourage hi-tech manufacturing here but it doesnt seem to be happening.

The economies that will bounce back quicker are the more balanced ones and ones that still have a manufacturing component, like germany.

oh and why do the French and Spanish own significant parts of our water/energy supply industry – doh

    Hi Paulio

    thanks for reply

I was fitting the cut down hose and its the screw on the end of the hose that I managed to strip the thread on the master cylinder with by over-tightening it

do you mean you have an intact master cylinder? or were you talking about the handlebar clamp screw?

    cheers

SLX doesnt seem that cheap 80 quid a piece with no disc.. if i am interpretting correctly..

Seen Magura Julie HP 180mm front and 160mm rear for 120 squid… 5 year leakproof warranty for orig owner… just not sure it has enough power?

    Conqueror

Yeah was joking with that last post… in response to this

warranty on both is void unless you use V brakes

The rear disc on the PA has to 185mm max IIRC…

Anyways.. ive not bought brakes in awhile.. dont want to break the bank.. seems people so far are suggesting Avid and Shimano .. no shout for Magura or Hayes yet
