Jairaj you know one of the [many] awesome things about a pentax dslr is that you can fit loads of lenses [on k mount] with no adapter and they will all be stabilized because it’s in body. Therefore you have loads of glass to choose from.

You might be able to find yourself a nice legacy uwa on ebay or a forum.

Also take a look at the samyang 10/14/16mm lenses.

Perhaps should also consider the pentax da 15mm.

Pentax really is one of the most underated products/brands out there.

This is getting messy… Mint must have a gui to configure the network interfaces.. what desktop is it? Gnome/KDE/Mate/XFCE ???

Printing your network config was to try to help see what’s going on

    ipconfig is not installed

Snot ipconfig … in linux its normally ifconfig

ip addr provides similar info though

The Canyon, Lapierre and Kona “Endurance” bikes look good (IMO)

you need to find out how your interface is setup…

try and provide the output of

    sudo cat /etc/network/interfaces

none of the commands above should of made it work… they were all for information

cat merely prints to standard out on the terminal

lsmod lists loaded kernel modules .. grep searches a string or file contents

OK I can’t remember where that is on a Debian/Ubuntu/Mint system

    Might be in /etc/network/interfaces

    try

    sudo cat /etc/network/interfaces

    Conqueror

and what is the output of

lsmod | grep -i nfe (suspect this is the wired module)

    and also

    sudo cat /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
    sudo cat /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-em1

I don’t know if your interface is called eth0 or em1…

ip addr would show you though

    lspci | grep -i net

will tell you what network interfaces you have… what is the wired interface?

sounds like the wired interface kernel module is loaded.. otherwise you wouldn’t even get as far as attempting DHCP

how have you configured that wired interface?

As an escapade owner I can definitely recommend it. I changed from the Kona Honky Tonk to Escapade.

I’m not sure I got the weight down a huge amount, but I’ve got nicer wheels and disks.

I think you already have disks though?

    Depends how heavy it is.

Wheels are often a noticeable upgrade.

Problem is you might spend quite a bit upgrading it and only noticing marginal improvements.

The C30 is a great car. Rock solid mechanically.

    Its also quite big inside.

However the one negative I can think of is that the shape of the boot lip/opening does prevent you from getting certain things in easily.

Roof rack is probably the way to go on the C30.

I’m sorry, what is “justified” business?

I guess there’s a realisation that if I was to enter an event. The difference between a bit of a do-it-all ~11kg bike and a more race orientated ~7.5kg bike might be quite noticeable.

But it would end up being Sunday and event only.

I’d have one. If you want speed you shouldn’t be looking at Land Rovers.

    😆 yes 0-60 in 8s. That’s getting into eco-car territory isn’t it?

This thread was always going to be messy.

I don’t understand the need for such big vehicles in the UK.

I think a TVR Chimaera would be far more pratical. Imagine the repair bills and fuel consumption might be similar too 😆

I’d get the biggest capacity and best warranty you can afford. And if you can be bothered find one without the sandforce controller.

I wouldn’t worry too much about sata2 vs 3. One day you’ll be on sata3 anyway.

You should gain in all aspects (apart from overall capacity of course) and noticeably access time over mechanical drive.

If you can afford it the corsair neutron gtx is good.

I decided against C2W after reading a lot about it on road.cc .. minimal gain was my conclusion.. though YMMV

Link to thread? I feel like I need an accountant trying to get my head around it[/quote]

It was the comments on here and also some other parts of the site

    cotic escapade

guards, racks, ss, geared, discs, can take road/mtb/cx wheels

available frame, frame and fork or full build

I run mine with MTB hubs and road rims, CX disc brakes, CX carbon fork 😀

    best is quite subjective

the choice of the heretic would most definitely be the Pentax mx-1 for 199

Power is an important factor IMO. With my last road bike (which was pretty heavy), I was only just about able to stop safely going down a steep hill before a road junction. I also had to scrub speed off for most of the descent, so I found myself braking all the way almost 😆 . That was tektro long drops.

Now I can brake later and harder if need be

finding the Hayes CX disc brakes pretty sweet on my Cotic Escapade

Setup with Tiagra STI levers and the wheels are Mavic Open Pro on XT hubs

For a slightly heavier road/cx/utility build it means you can be confident about stopping if a nutcase in a car cuts you up

Pentax wg-3 and Olympus “tough” tg-3 will take more of a [physical] beating if you need that

what’s the min size van that you can sleep in and take a bike or two?

Berlingo looks like its probably enough for day trips, but not big enough to sleep in

What kind of mpg do you get from these beasts?

some tools I’ve found essential for an older house:

Bosch heat gun – taken so much abuse and comes back for more ~30 quid
    5″ scraper – about 4 or 5 quid
    wallpaper steamer – 20/25 quid

wet and dry vacuum – not cheap but worth it (100-200 quid)

Wonder if this will be released, given that elsewhere on the forum it seems Brant is leaving Planet X.

I couldn’t hold out much longer and got a Cotic, but this does look good.

I’d looked at the Escapade but can’t get over the price for a fairly low end groupset.

Yeah that put me off the full build, but I also realised I wanted to fit my own fork – so I bought the Escapade frame only, no forks.. building up now
