Interpolation is fraught with issues. It’s just bad practice mixing data of different precisions to generate a result.

True, consumer satellite navigation units (they are not called “GPS”… that’s the name of a constellation of satellites) have poor Z precision, 10mt at best. But a DEM may be better or worse… it all depends on how far you are from the nearest N measurement points.

But as it’s just used for a bunch of middle class types to feel smug, it hardly matters. I’ll go back to worrying about my survey data for the 150 manholes we did last week.

Both are poor with low precision and questionable accuracy. Tracklogs will “correct” the data using “known” elevation points “along” your route. Speaking professionally, its’ a bad practice and you should be aware of the issues when using the service.

Get the double as it’s invaluable having steel pedal threads and washer if you have to take your pedal off now and again.

I run 26/36 and the standard bash with a 11-32 cassette on my hard tail.

As above, easy: get the three springs together, the one with the thinnest wire will be the light spring, the one with the thickest wire will be the heavy, and the one in between will be the medium…

I haven’t ridden on my own but know the time is about to arrive! [8O] Someone said to me earlier today to take my ipod when I go alone, when I said if I played my ipod I wouldn’t be able to hear anyone come up behind me, he said ‘don’t worry, your moaning and poor music coming from your headphones will make any other riders pass you carefully and with a very wide birth [] ‘

Don’t you just love friends like that?! []

It was said in jest……..I hope lol

Sounds like your friend just has a unique sense of humour and wouldn’t dare be cheeky to you!

I’m sure at least half of the contacts in my phone are biking related. I’ve met loads of great people over the years via a local biking site (and this one, but less so). I’m best mates with some of them, and others I used to hang around with all the time and haven’t seen them in a year or more. Others I just email and message but don’t get to see that often as they live far away. But I try and meet up once a year at least. I’ve not spoken to some of my old uni mates in yonks, but just back from holiday with a couple of them. Just how things work out. Friendships have a natural course and there’s not a whole lot you can do about it.

What’s the cheapest one? I want one for the Mega and will probably not use it too often (it’s pretty certain I’ll snap it eventually) so don’t want to spend big money.

    Who is your ISP?

I’m with AOL and they “throttle” connections now and again, e.g. block P2P ports, BBC Iplayer etc and HTTP downloads. I can browse the net fine, but can’t download BBC Iplayer files at any speed as they are restricting P2P traffic. Even when I download files from certain websites (e.g. java.com the other week) I get pathetic speeds then on other sites I get my full 1.8mb. They have been doing it to me a lot lately.

I’m moving to Sky next week.

5-10s. The best. If you want to keep your feet warm and dry get some sealskin socks to go along with them

They are based on the Golf so are actually not that wide. I’d be surprised if you could get three child seats in the rear.

I really can’t believe I’m reading this thread on an MTB site. We all take risks. We all do things to keep us ticking over. MTBing is dangerous. Just different from climbing a mountain. I’ve been carried down a mountain after breaking my leg on a bike. Nobody told me off for that. I know I could well be killed or seriously injured when out biking, but I don’t give a **** as it’s what I want to do and there are far worse things I could be doing that would have a negative impact on our society.

    You are such a hypocrite.

    Easiest:

    Cook some red lentils

Get a frying pan. Fry some chopped onions. Add a tsp or two of PAtaks Madras Curry Paste. Fry, add drained lentils. Season. Easy peasy.

Another easy one is simply some red kidney beans mashed lightly with some lemon, curry paste, single cream and garam masala.

Good call… do that myself with chump steaks when doing stir fries where the beef is cut thinly.

Aleigh, don’t knock it till you try it. Better than Loyd Grossman pasta sauce anyway!

WCA… yeah… had seared tuna salad on Wed night and it was a nightmare trying to slice the (pretty much raw) steaks into 2mm thick slices. Knife was sharp enough, just stuck to blade. Will probably use my small knife and as you say, keep it wet.

Cool. Might just stick with tuna, salmon and mackerel.

These are just for starters, doing other Japanese dishes for mains yet, not sure what yet, friend bought me an Asian cook book in the summer that has a nice Japanese section in it.

Chilli Bean paste or sauce (toban jan) contains fermented beans, and has a deep, salty flavour. It’s not just there to add heat. try adding Sambal Olek (Thai chili sauce) which has a similar heat and flavour. Add a dash of soy sauce if the dish is lacking in depth/flavour.

    Nice on phutphutend.

I qualied 50th last year after a big crash (would have been 40th or so :() but bike and body were too battered to race the main event. Gutted not to race the Mega! But happy the weather was Mega shitty!! Year before was 186th in Promo or something shit because I started at the very back and got stuck with the woofters in the queues.

    Bronze entry package is £70.

I wouldn’t do the Platinum (sprint DH) unless you are a keen DH racer. I did it, wouldn’t do it again as it takes up two days of your holiday. The Dh race track is **** class though, give it a blast when you are there. Also to the Xc trail on the opposite side of the valley.

Tubeless tyres are about the best thing you can do. No punctures all week, 20psi MAX.

You’ll find that she will be keen to impress, won’t hold back and will not really complain and will be happy to drag, or be dragged around the place. Even when she’d rather be sitting at the cafe! Why don’t you ride one of her regular patches?

    Donk…

Go wide, brake late, cut in. Aim for where there are fewest riders.

It is true the upper body strength is important. Infact more so than fitness in some sections (e.g. the start). The thing that slowed me down the most was arm pump, not tired legs. There is very little pedalling, it’s just any pedalling is sprinting!!

Bullit with Lyrics sounds perfect. It’s exactly what Joanne used last year. She coped better than most! I don’t think she is doing it this year though.

2.35″ dual ply highrollers are perfect. Don’t be too worried about bikes/tyres etc. Best bet is to go tough/long/heavy if you have the option. Don’t even think about two bikes!! Will be my third year.

It’s reasonably well organised so you’ll be fine on your own. The girls quali/race separately anyway so you’ll feel comfortable enough on the start line. Most will be brits/irish. What are the other people going with you doing? Are they going all the way there and not doing it?? Fools!!

Email me if you want more info.

Didn’t like it. Couple good sections but nothing special. All the fun is gone after the first 10mins. The open mountain bit is wide, straight and boring. You waste an absolute load of elevation!! I prefer singletrack to bridleways.

I do, never needed to use it though as any leaks I get are slow or seal themselves before tyre deflates. Second the tubeless repair kits, work well.

EDIT: used once, during and XC race when I was only carrying a CO2 inflater in my pocket.

All been top people so far. Special mentions to MrNutt, Ton & Vortex Racing because they’re the only ones I’ve met so far.
