None here in NI. Doesn’t look like we’ll get any either. Majorly pissed off.

Got a fair whack on the mountains, hope it lasts till the weekend so I can get some Mega Avalanche practice in.

I have an Octavia estate, 150bhp petrol. but I also have a VW Caddy van with the 104bhp 1.9tdi engine. I do more miles it the Caddy than the Octy.

TBH I’d be more than happy with the 1.9tdi in the Octy, esp if it was run in correctly. The 1.9tdi has more than enough torque for the critical every day moments (i.e. over taking slow vehicles, 40-60mph in one gear). True, the petrol just keeps pulling and pulling and is great to have an engine that keeps spitting out power as the revs rise. But for you average driver, in average situations…. I’d rather have the 1.9tdi. Plus the 1.9tdi will do 50mpg. Not sure about the figures for the 2.0 tdi.

I’m too far west, don’t think we’ll get any. Looking forward to seeing the SE grinding to a halt under 2″ of snow in the news on Monday evening 🙂

    Food and pubs!

That’s all I really know about Cork!!

Middleton market is great. So is the Jemison wiskey tour.

English market in the city is class.

Driving… to blend in with the locals, don’t use your indicators.

Some good tips, Conor. You must be a hit with the ladies, with your silky culinary skilz!

You know what, there is a whole website full of my recipes, videos and advice. And I’m still single. The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach, but it’s not the same for women!! But saying that the last girl I dated I met her because of food (no, not in the queue to a kebab shop on saturday night).

For mustard mash it has to be grainy dijon. Looks better 🙂

Green beans, cook, drain, back to pan with a splash of olive oil and salt and pepper.

    Oh what a terrible dilema.

Some chips AND mustard mash. And I’d suggest making gravy onions… fry chopped onions, add some red wine, bit of water, bisto… nice.

failure to display, (up to) £200 fine. I was shitting myself for the last week as we picked up a new van, been taxed by the dealer ages ago but they never sent the disc with the van.

Depends how you ride… if you ride flat out DH and break stuff at home and ride flat out DH in the Alps you’ll break more as you down about 3months of riding in a week. My trails are pretty rough and technical, the Alps trails are similar but straighter and faster, so stuff breaks more. But most breakages are due to wear and tare… that rough bearing on your swingarm suddenly falls apart and you have no replacement on the eve of the Mega Avalanche….

First time boarding for me a couple weeks back. hired helmet. Had about 3-4 falls. Hit head twice- once going off the edge of a cliff (not as bad as above of course, steep bank with deep snow) and catching a back edge and flipping over backwards, landing on my arse with head following. Glad I had helmet.

I also had knee and elbow pads… knee pads were good for starting off with as I spent a lot of time on my knees.

Bought a good treadmill a year ago. Main reason being I wanted to run but because of my ACL injury and not wanting to run along dark country roads!!

I used it a lot last year as prep for the Mega. Started again as I’m doing a leg of a marathon. I find it boring though. But good for a 30min blast after work on these dark evenings. When the days lengthen and I’m more confident I’ll start running in the forest.

Stayed near dogl… dogand…dog something. in the middle of wales in the “summer”. Less thatn 45mins from Cody and not to far down to Afan etc. Pretty central to a good few of the best areas, all bar the northern ones anyway.

Got a new van through work last wednesday. brand new, delivered by dealer. No tax disk. boss says, not to worry as it IS taxed. Disc is in the post. Eventually turned up today… bet by the time I get out to it this evening (parked mile from office) I’ll have a ticket!!

from my limited time (one day..) there, if you are near the south bank:

    Burough market
Tate modern (really surprised with this place, could spend a week there!!)
The big gallery place up the river from the tate modern.
    some nice pubs
the eye if it’s a nice day and the queues are short.

Digimap, that’s what I mean, an interpolated DEM made up of 10mt pixels based on points that are 90mts apart is fine if you want to know roughly how much elevation you have climbed or lost etc. But as you say you have to explain what the data is and where it comes from, most users don’t know this though, and don’t care.

My MSc dissertation was modelling past environments based on a DEM I generated (using a Kriging or nearest neighbour algorithm I think.. was 5 years ago!!), so am aware of the power of interpolated datasets… along with the drawbacks and issues.

GPS receiver or navigation unit would be acceptable.

But in theory the units can receive signals from other, non-GPS constellations, such as Galileo and Glonass. Our new survey grade receivers pick up Glonass birds as well as real-time corrections over the VRS network. Such and advantage in urban areas!!

Although, as it’s one of the busiest Tesco stores in NI I could be there a while….

    Another hairy wrist:

Never really worn watches, but got this last Jan.

Tissot T-Touch Titanium. Simple, compact, I like it. It’s looking a bit scuffed actually but as it’s when biking, digging and mechanicing i’m happy it’s survived a year!!

    Circa £350
