Probably of absolutely no use to you, but if you do happen to have a big John Deere you need one of these……..

I had a Joplin 3 that did this. Tried servicing the internals but in the end it turned out to be the tiny O ring that seals round the actuator pin under the seat. It was a faff but I managed to make a tool to strip it down completely and get the top end cleaned and greased Certainly made a difference but I moved on to a KS LEV fairly quickly afterwards

That Hedcam looks exactly like a Roadhawk Ride, of which I have one (and it was cheaper). If they are indeed the same I’d steer clear. Night time recording is pretty poor and in cold conditions the battery life is greatly reduced. I’m only getting around 30 minutes at the moment

Depends on the size of bolt but wouldn’t have thought so, breakout torque is usually higher than tightening torque

How does the Mobius perform in this weather? I have a Roadhawk Ride but the video quality isn’t great in low light and the battery life is only 30 minutes when temps are below freezing

How much difference do tyres and bike make? I’m currently building up for the Etape Loch Ness in April. Was out at the weekend on my commuter Boardman CX with 28mm Schwalbe Marathons, did 30 miles and averaged 14mph. My only aim is to do the 66 miles at the minimum average 13mph (the closed course opens to traffic after that) Different tyres are probably a given but will a proper road bike make any odds?

The Tax System – Explained With Beer
Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to £100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:
The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
    The fifth would pay £1.
    The sixth would pay £3.
    The seventh would pay £7.
    The eighth would pay £12.
    The ninth would pay £18.
The tenth man (the richest) would pay £59.
So, that’s what they decided to do.
The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. ‘Since you are all such good customers,’ he said, ‘I’m going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by £20. ‘Drinks for the ten now cost just £80.
The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what about the other six men – the paying customers? How could they divide the £20 windfall so that everyone would get his ‘fair share?’
They realized that £20 divided by six is £3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody’s share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer. So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man’s bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.
    And so:
The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings).
The sixth now paid £2 instead of £3 (33%savings).
The seventh now pay £5 instead of £7 (28%savings).
The eighth now paid £9 instead of £12 ( 25% savings).
The ninth now paid £14 instead of £18 ( 22% savings).
The tenth now paid £49 instead of £59 (16% savings).
Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings.
‘I only got a pound out of the £20,’ declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man,’ but he got £10!’ ‘Yeah, that’s right,’ exclaimed the fifth man. ‘I only saved a pound, too. It’s unfair that he got ten times more than I!’ ‘That’s true!!’ shouted the seventh man. ‘Why should he get £10 back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!’ ‘Wait a minute,’ yelled the first four men in unison. ‘We didn’t get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!’
The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.
The next night the tenth man didn’t show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn’t have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!
And that, boys and girls, journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.

My commute is 26 miles. I park on a side street at the edge of town and cycle the last 4. Work is uphill and takes 5-10 minutes longer than driving in the morning but downhill going home makes it the same time, apart from the nights where there’s a hold up and traffic’s at a standstill. There’s no greater satisfaction than zipping through the queues on a bike! :D

I think the thing with these is if you want something cheap (esp 27.2) and are prepared to fettle then they’re worth a look. If you want something to ‘just work’ then look elsewhere

I assume these spiked tyres are no use for tarmac though? Funnily enough I commute through Aberdeen as well but just on road. I’ve had a couple of dodgy moments lately on greasy roads and white lines. Currently running Schwalbe Marathons

    5′ 5″? How’s the weather up there? :D

I’m 5′ 4″ and ride a small Titus El Guapo, does me fine. Running a 125mm KS Lev and could get away with a 150mm

Had a medium Commencal Meta 5.5 before that, seat tube was a touch long (I could still use the Lev but it was hard on the seat post clamp) but it had a short top tube

The Horn Restaurant just south of Dundee does the best bacon rolls ever! Salty, crispy and piled on the bun until they can’t get any more on. Yum! :D

Slight hijack – can anyone recommend a waterproof pannier, that will take a laptop, lunchbox and a shirt and can be easily carried from house to bike to office? A little less spendy than an Ortlieb would also be handy!

If you look at the FAQ’s on their website, yes you can. It’s under the question ‘How do I know what LoC value to select?’

My local store didn’t believe me when I tried it so I printed off the web page and showed them. Their till wouldn’t let them do it so in the end they put it down as a ‘deposit’ even though I didn’t actually hand over any cash. Just gave me more to spend on accessories
