What will you be using it for? Although there’s only 1/2″ difference in disc size the grinders are two different beasts. The 4 1/2″ will be lighter and can almost be used one-handed, good for light jobs. The 5″ will be a definite two-hander and better for heavier jobs like cutting or sustained grinding

Not long after learning to ride a bike my dad showed me that wiping my bike down with a rag dampened with diesel put a shine on it and kept rust at bay

I returned the favour by doing the same with his car………..

Looks like a copy of the Lidl ones. It’ll be ok for occasional use but if you’re a serial bike fettler you might want something a bit better

Harvesting turnips by hand using a tapner, a kind of curved machete used to chop off the roots and soil clinging to the bottom of the turnip. During one chop I somehow managed to drag my thumb down the side of the turnip forcing a sliver of turnip skin under the full width of the nail and about halfway up. Luckily (?) there was enough sticking out to pull it out but I very nearly fainted with the pain………….

I’ve done the shifter taking apart thing as well. It was an ‘interesting’ 2 hours trying to put everything together again

If by right hand side you mean East, I did it a few weeks ago on a road bike with 25mm Luganos. Had to take it easy on a couple of rough bits but no bother otherwise

Told to write a story in primary about being a fireman. Started with the sentence ‘me and my mates were playing cards’ and got ripped to shreds by the teacher in front of the whole class for not writing ‘my mates and I’
I was a bit of a swot, knew what I was doing, and no amount of protestations that I did it to sound more realistic made any difference

I’ve had an 05 for the last 8 years. Just an old faithful, never failed to start and the only thing she’s needed is the common DMF at around 100k (she’s nearly double that now). Rumbling could be the auxiliary belt tensioner if the design was still the same in 08. They all do it, I can tell a TDCI idling with my eyes shut

Only today – trying to replace a spoke in a hurry and wondering why the old nipple wouldn’t screw on to the new spoke, maybe if the old nipple didn’t have the broken thread from the old spoke it might’ve worked’

Chain joining link and maybe some spare links. Almost had a 3hr round trip ride spoiled a couple of weeks ago when my chain snapped. (Joining link failed) Luckily I managed to join it using the old fashioned method but being 10 speed it shouldn’t have worked……

Pretty sure you can’t use any discount codes, vouchers etc with C2W. Best you can hope for is to have your letter of collection ready and wait for the fairly regular offers they put on

Doh! The spacers will bear against the caps which will bear against the bearing inner race. I can’t see it being a problem but there will be an increased lever arm between the dropout and the bearing which theoretically would increase axle flex but in practice I doubt it flexes at all. The Salsa blurb says the fork is good for 24″ drops which sounds like it should be pretty sturdy, how’s Salsa’s customer service, worth emailing them?

Surely on any bike the hub is supported on the axle via the bearings? The caps (or spacers in your case) shouldn’t spin. As long as the spacers bear against the inner race of the bearing I can’t see it being different from any other hub?

I’m from farming stock and can appreciate the temptation (and perhaps the necessity) to try and push your recovery but I urge you to keep your arm as immobile as possible to help the bones to knit. I tried to do too much too early and a simple stumble set me back to square one after a fortnight. I didn’t even go down, the natural reaction was to stick my arm out but I couldn’t because of my sling. I can send you some of this stuff if you want, I found it more comfortable and easier to put on and adjust than the standard NHS sling

Yeah, watch how the payment is set up. My son was highly delighted to find he was apparently getting in-app purchases for ‘free’. Luckily he’d only spent about a tenner before I found out, guy at work got stung for over £300!

The world expert on wasps of the world and the sounds that they make is taking a stroll down his local high street. As he passes by a record shop, a sign catches his eye: “Just Released – New LP – ‘Wasps of the World and the sounds that they make’ – available now!”

Unable to resist the temptation, the man goes into the shop.

“I am the world expert on wasps of the world and the sounds that they make. I’d very much like to listen to the new LP you have advertised in the window.”

“Certainly sir,” says the young man behind the counter. “If you’d like to step into the booth and put on the headphones, I’ll put the LP on for you.”

The world expert on wasps of the world goes into the booth and puts on the earphones. Ten minutes later, he comes out of the booth and announces, “I am the world expert on wasps of the world and the sounds that they make and yet I recognized none of those.”

“I’m sorry sir”, says the young assistant. “If you’d care to step into the booth again, I can let you have another 10 minutes.”

The world expert on wasps of the world and the sounds that they make steps back into the booth and puts on the headphones again. Ten minutes later, he comes out of the booth shaking his head. “I don’t understand it”, he says, “I am the world expert on wasps of the world and the sounds that they make, and yet I still can’t recognize any of those!”

“I’m terribly sorry sir” says the young man, “perhaps if you’d like to step into the booth again, you could have 5 more minutes.”

Sighing, the world expert on wasps of the world and the sounds that they make steps back into the booth.

Five minutes later he comes out again, clearly agitated.

“I am the world expert on wasps of the world and the sounds that they make and yet I have recognized none of the wasps on this LP.”

“I really am terribly sorry”, says the young assistant ….

“I’ve just realized I was playing you the bee side.”

When I was a youngster I was helping my dad lift turnips by hand using a large knife-like tool called a tapner to clean the soil and roots off. A miss timed swipe led to my thumb nail scraping down the side of the turnip and a sliver of turnip skin being forced halfway up under the nail. Luckily? there was enough turnip skin poking out for my dad to pull it out but I fainted with the pain…..

Is that alloy? I went through a couple of alloy Switch freehubs until I switched (see what I did there?) to the steel freehub

Don’t get shouty, send it back politely explaining you’re disappointed and you may get lucky. I’ve found them very reasonable at dealing with complaints

Also might be worth seeking out your local club to see if you enjoy group riding. I just went out with my mate at first and it seemed all work and no play. Being surrounded by a group weirded me out to begin with but there’s a certain satisfaction in zipping along 6″ behind somebody’s back wheel sharing the work and keeping formation

It’ll never beat the satisfaction of clearing a gnarly descent of course

    I’ve got one of these – http://www.carradice.co.uk/index.php?page_id=product&product_id=64

I bought mine S/H and don’t have the laptop sleeve but it’s really sturdy and well made even if a little old fashioned looking. The straps have plenty of adjustment and you can hold a surprising amount of stuff in it. Comes with a shoulder strap so you can use it as a messenger bag
