a decent bond will only occur if you can get the fibreglass to stick to the aluminium anyway ,a bond is only as strong as its weakest element the fibreglass is not the weak element the interface between the aluminium and whatever epoxy or adhesive is used is(some adhesives are not epoxy based)

Google FPL etch (still a bit old) and extrapolate from there or even CAA etch or the phosphoric (sometimes called boeing) process

    glassfibre …old hat chaps

nope but i always read the ones with closed ,recently the pedantic moderati have mad it rather dull by closing anything with a near whiff of duplication instead of anything that clashes with their precious sensibilities

    What happened there?

I think my dry sense of humour is frowned upon by the moderati

maybe there should be a sarcasm icon

sometimes one does wonder if its the forum that should be avoided in general and not the contributors

Caged just get it right, on time, every time and they are a great bunch of guys with some seriously clever ways of working, as quite a few Frame designers on here know only too well…..

ask them to cut an oval tube…to be honest they either couldn’t be arsed or ran out of reasons they couldn’t get a fix on what we wanted …sorry dont have the same experience as you there dom

In the midst of a hilarious team meeting yesterday one of the team constructed a paper plane that looked fiendishly complicated to make. To my astonishment it flew fantastically, it glided for about 10 seconds doing two maybe 3 circuits of the room. He made it quite short and stubby but with big wings. Anyone else have this ability?

so you work in Airbus aerodynamics department

[quoteI wonder if you could 3D print a mold?[/quote]

Simple answer is yes moulds can be printed

Problem arises if you need to cure at 200 degrees…theres a solution to that also

What stops the depressed school nut job printing an AK47?

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-22421185

    not a lot

the guy that sells these actually stood in a room full of folks (well a lot of bigwigs from airbus and boeing and other stuff) and pointed out at the minute ,strength wise its about as good as an investment casting….

remember when your grandad used to go ,computers when i was a lad? its a bit like that ,not ready for the prime time but its coming

ps it will be surpassed by atom rearanging printers where elements are kind of arranged to produce stuff…ill be dead then though so making body parts from a pallette of elements will still be a bit late to print me new body bits

but expect medical folks to take the lead and make metal pretty obsolete

I used to set up BRT’S each machine has its own way despite the rules of engineering,

but then some sheetmetal companies would go whats a bend radius table we put this number in and it does this

depends also how thick your part is microtooling for little teeny tiny parts bend allowance rules change somewhat…lol
