Jameso hit the nail .the beration comes from companies year on year forcing their opinion and fashion on punters
After twenty odd years of watching companies change their mind , they told us last year this was the best but this year they changed it to be better….or did they just not have a **** clue to start with but prefer to call getting it right this year R&D call me a cynical engineer….

This is another one of those threads where clear concise instructions would be the order of the day!!! Pictures on how to use piston grease would also be usefull as the OP says hes new to all this ,I think just for those of us who are unsure on how much to use and if there may be clearance issues upon insertion of the piston …should you wipe off the excess?

Those threads remind me of the ones where folks convert mr2s into ferraris.
It’s just an open mould frame if you want one I can get you one for less Or if you and 10 buddy’s get together you can go direct to the factory
The eBay crew just order a hundred or so to get a discount (sometimes they don’t even do that) anyone can do it and set up their own firm it’s not hard but like I said in the first line of the post.

the cost of course is dependant on how many of a product you do for me its not a problem the expense was tooling to hold them. The actual component cost is reasonable if your doing more than one I have no idea why you would want to coat a crank arm however??

At that price you could buy new but its more for the weight weenies you can make a disk brake rotor a 5th the weight of a current one with no heat or wear issues and cheanring’s show no wear at all cassettes of aluminium however are doomed to failure even when coated theres a good couple of years testing gone into this.

Why do folks think ceramic bearings are better???

Yes owned both steel and ceramic in fact many many many bottom brackets.
There’s a box of the good bad and ugly under the test bench in the workshop.

Where’s the resident bearing expert on this forum when you need him.

I can put you in touch with the company in the UK that does this
They will not do a one off but if you have 10 to do they will take on the job

you will also have to pay for tooling to hold the component part whilst the conversion takes place for my 6 hole rotor and chainring tools this was 220quid for the cassettes it was 350 quid as they have a bigger mass if you consider the testing we have had to do and design changes the tooling cost soon add up its not quite as simple as holding the part It will change as the process applies

Also the companies in question will not guarantee your coating if its not a substrate they can confirm the metallurgy of.

I have already just done this on brake parts and drive train parts I’m working on.If this is for wear resistance there are 3 companies that provide the same coating and some others which are slightly harder wearing but more costly

its a simple market and one of perception…

buy it cheap and sell it cheap trying to make out the quality is all that

manufacture it yourself make it high quality..product sells itself even if the price is higher

i used to work from home many years ago and have returned to doing so more recently the two standout things I have learned are not any form of technical issue but

A do not turn on the TV at all you get sucked in to all kinds of chavtastic shite and cant get started till at least 2pm meaning you dont get done till 2am

B stop working at 5 none of that ill just do another half an hour its soon 8pm and if you have a significant other it stops her starting an affair with big leroy down the road because your never there and always working

Ah no problem there’s a company called workstation specialists ring em tell em what you want tell em how much everyone else is charging and see if they can beat the price I must go through 2-3 of these a year for running 3d and cfd have to admit was using apple last year and had no complaints with it being very very fast and very reliable
Dell were doing some cheap starter box in their precision range which iirc t1600 pretty quick considering the price

Some office types class their optiplex as a workstation.

Tbh used dells for years and never had any issues
