Thanks petesgaff – did you get it from a trade seller on gumtree?

Will do – most available don't seem to have windows in the sliding side doors but all the ex-PO ones mostly do.

Thanks all – at the risk of asking (another) silly question where is a good place to start the hunt apart from autotrader and ebay?! Am based in the south east…

Great – many thanks for that, do you have the 1.3 or 1.7?

Presumably it was ex post office or BT etc…? Do you mind me asking where you got it from as seems like a bargain!

it went to the garage this morning…!

Assuming they are binding is there a quick fix or do I need to trot along (again) to the garage to get the rear brake parts replaced…?

If it was rubbing to the extent of causing lower mpg would it get really hot??

As you say I would have thought, as with bikes, any considerable rubbing with such momentum behind it then the pads would either burn away and stop rubbing or just be forced away from the disc. However I can assure you if I jack up the rear wheels and spin them they spin nowhere near as freely as the front ones as can feel the resitance as it's turned.

In reposnse to previous question it didn't seem overly hot but it was raining pretty much all the way home?

When you say cable is free does that mean looking under the car?

It's a passat estate – handbrake did occur to me as both wheels affected but idea didn't go any further due to lack of knowledge hence post here!

Is there anything simple I can do/test before forking out more money at the garage…?!

Around 3 times as stiff as the front ones? When I spin the rear wheels I can feel the brakes rubbing but as you say not sure how much differece it would make at 70mph etc… A good strong spin and it stops before 1/2 turn.

No bikes on roof etc… and just camping stuff and bikes so not much more laden than usual.

Thanks all for the input, as someone said knowing the decent runs/eateries is as prob as important as whether you ski/board. If guiding I'm unlikely to opt for runs with flat parts in if at all possible…

I need to know the same thing for an X9 too…

It's the former of the two options and agree I'm likely to be able to ski!

asking as possibly looking to take a role which includes "ski guiding" and am getting the impression they'd prefer someone to do it who was on skis!

you may have to convince HMRC you are not “carrying on a trade” though…

Pretty sure you can “gift” to anyone, if the person “gifting” dies then it will just use the first £100k of the tax free IHT allowance (roughly £300k) along with any other gifts made in the 7 year period. Assuming the other gifts are minimal you won’t owe any tax if they die but you might not be overly popular with the people left the assets in the will as they’ll end up paying more tax… However if they have assets of >£1m I would expect they are all over IHT planning anyway…?

and get a training partner if you can or else you’ll go mad…!

Even someone cycling alongside you will be fantastic compared to running on your own.

from my humble experience of training for the marathon the long weekend runs are the key to it and not increasing the distance of them too much week by week or else you’ll get injured.

whatever you can do in the week is a bonus and certainly not as important as the long ones…

How do they size up? I’m 5’11” so guessing I’d need a 17″ or 18″?

    Thanks again.

stumbled on the http://www.englishforum.ch a while back and it seems to have a lot of useful info but as with all forums must be taken with a pinch of salt I guess?!

Also seems in terms of job hunting success it very much depends on how employable you are in any country – there seem to be a lot of people on there that have moved to Switzerland and were struggling to find work in their own country anyway or want to do something very niche.

ok – many thanks for the posts people, certainly not conclusive either way but not fully put me off!
