Does anyone make them with dials to control the power as opposed to the touch buttons which always seem a bit fiddly (having previously used a halogen hob) – guess that would remove the point of ease of cleaning etc…

    Thanks all – much appreciated.

So are t5 “Shuttles” more likely to be considered a car than a factory “Kombi”? I think I favour the Kombi for carrying bikes / security but guess it makes little difference once the windows are tinted and back row of seats removed.

Are they both considered commercial vehicles due to the weight / size?

Million dollar question now – where do I start looking for one that’s been looked after, not gone round the world twice and not pretty much the same price a new one?! So far regular browsing on autotrader, eBay and even gumtree hasn’t resulted in much of interest.

Guess am looking for an 05 (ish) with the 2.5 130 engine.

Perfect – exactly what I’m looking for!

I’m guessing a lot of this squabling could be put to rest if we knew what you’d been up to in the last 10 years.

A spell in Her Majesty’s would no doubt be viewed very differently to setting up own business or taking time out to raise children or travel etc…!!

Njee etc… – absolutely no offence taken at all from any of the posts – however I feel definitely “need” a girlie compact in the Alps…!

When legs are fresh it makes no odds what gears you have but when doing back to back climbs for hours on end it’s nice to have some easy spinning gears in the bag…

I find it similar to 12 hour races etc… where as it progresses you end up using lower gears on the same climbs as the laps pass by….

Thinking about it probably don’t need any gears at all…!

Am planning to do the Marmotte if you’re up for it – need to get out of a stag do that w/e first though…!

If I’d have asked whether I needed a compact or not I’d have put that in the post…!

I worked out in Alps last summer, was mostly mountain biking and borrowing a road bike (that had a compact….)

    Thanks for the wisdom though…

Done enough road riding in the Alps to know I need a compact…!

Looks like I’ll just get the whole thing from the classifieds or cheap new, should be fine with existing chain etc… as drivetrain looks pretty new.

I thought about that – not looked at it properly but was hoping I could adjust the existing one but guess it’s a new front mech if it’s a braze on type one?

mmm – interesting, so are all Kombi’s classed as cars or do they need to be “factory originals” as opposed to converted panel vans?

What’s insurance like on transporters generally (in comparison to cars).

Thanks all – only thought with the 9 seater was that it’s essentially a Kombi once the rear seats are removed (except windows in the side rear) but they seem to be cheaper than Kombi’s.

May be because a lot are ex minicabs etc.. though I guess??

I’d personally spend that £150 on lessons when you get there – split a couple of private lessons between you. Couple of hours will get you on the way (and before you all jump in I used to teach in Whistler).

Are there others who want to join you? – you might find as the 2 weeks progress one of you may well progress much quicker than the other and then be counter productive for each other…

Finally if you can go for 2 weeks after xmas/NY and it’ll cost you a fraction of the price regardless of where you go or where/how you stay, also the slopes over the festive period will be rammed so not ideal for nervous beginners (or anyone else for that matter…)

franciscobegbie – all I’ve ever done is connect through the VPN as not been back to the office since leaving…!

However am guessing when I sent it to the IT bods they connected in the office to the network.

A final part of the “mystery” is that I’ve subsequently found a file in the recycle bin that I (intentionally) deleted from one of the original folders and restored it and then it has remade the folder in “my docs” but dissapointingly it’s the only file in the folder… (if that makes sense).

Yes – pretty sure as only have the one username.

Think IT ran some sort of file recovery software but it’s not like it was a few files – it was a lot of folders and sub folders all with loads of docs, pics, excel files etc… in.

I assumed IT must have done something but they reckon because it was on my hard drive it wouldn’t have been possible.

Got a feeling that had I not moved anything it would all still be there…!

Electric radiators and electric hot water tank – economy 7 style so water heats up over night. Either that or electric underfloor heating?
Most places I’ve lived out there are exactly the same as alternative is oil fired central heating and oil tank.
Not bought it yet but had a few visits so getting tempted…!
