I’d quite like them to ditch the scoring altogether, share the money out among all the riders, and just run it as a spectacle. I imagine most of the riders and sponsors would still want to be involved.

Maybe keep public votes for best line/run/rider and best trick?

Won’t make a jot of difference, but the People (or at least those motivated to vote) clearly loved Brendog’s approach.

Brendog’s run as awesome as ever. Just not what the judges want (or red Bull will condone). Loving the crowd reaction to his score though!

Have used electrical, Stans, WTB and Muc-Off. IME all much of a muchness as long as you prep will and are careful. For an awkwardly see shaped rim I’d go for a wrap or two of electrical and then a layer of whatever TESA type tape you’ve got.

Another teacher’s response (HoY too FWIW).

If kid has no identified SEND status then meet with HoY (OP mentions both HoY and Year Manager though – not sure what the distinction is?).

I’d there is SEND then meet with that team.

In both cases, explain concerns and ask for support with tackling anxiety rather than trying to avoid triggering situations (although this might well be part of the short term response).

Going in with an adversarial mindset will get nowhere. Decent HoY will discuss mentoring/counseling, potential MH/SEND referral and communications with teachers without being prompted or ‘goaded’.

+1 Cougar. A club is the right way to go.

As a beginner you don’t really want or need to be drawing anything over 30lb. I never went heavier than 36lb even shooting full FITA rounds as I had some silly fast custom limbs made by Border.

Beware though, archery is just as obsessive, geeky and spendy as MTB when it comes to kit, and even more arcane and cliquey when it comes to the actual sport itself…

As much as I liked that and thought the riding was as skillful and gutsy as ever from Gee, it did smack a bit of ‘we’ve put all this effort in and now don’t even have enough footage for a banging edit – what can we edit together that means we haven’t wasted everyone’s time?’.

His more recent output always feels like a ‘riders’ rider’ thing. If you’re in the know it’s obvious the level he’s riding at, but for a casual viewer it maybe doesn’t look that exciting or impressive?

For pasta, I’m imagining a carbonara style base sauce but with truffle and mushroom rather than guanciale and pecorino flavouring it.

Simple pasta or risotto are the obvious suggestions. Think it was Rick Stein I saw visiting a truffle hunter in Italy where they just simply fried eggs and grated truffle over the top, which seemed weirdly cool.

It’s all 100℅ true and accurate. Only “baiting” in the sense I knew it would get a polarised reaction. I’m not so much of a sociopath to make it all up just for provocative giggles.

You knew what was going to happen on here

Absolutely. Part of starting the thread was just to see how long it would take TBH. That and I was genuinely interested to see if the nuances of the context would affect people’s views.

If a human caused you that injury you would seek legal redress

Again, please don’t believe you know what I would think or do. That’s what you would presumably look to do, but that’s you.

As I said, it was a deliberately provocative comment, like a couple of yours.

FWIW, in this context I’m not sure I would be looking for direct redress if it was the human that injured me. And as stated a couple of times, this is now on the hands of the Police and it’s up them how they legally proceed.

Classic dog owners logic thinking dogs are human.”

You have many qualities Teej, but telepathy ain’t one of them! Putting words in people’s mouths might just be though…

(and neither it seems is reading thread responses ?)

Dogs ain’t people, and I’m definitely not Doug’s “daddy” – anyone who tries that gets a swift rebuke. There is however a lot of research looking into the pretty unique relationship between people and dogs over the last few thousand years that sheds light on why some people might feel that way.

The dog is not ultimately to blame here.

Dog owner logic on full display.”

No logic involved, just pondering (and maybe playing devil’s advocate by reflecting the hyperbole on the other side of the debate).

    Now we’re getting there!

(as an aside, I’m always amazed at the amount of STWers who will reply without actually reading the thread)

    For clarity again…

This has been reported and a statement given to Police.

The Dalmation was not aggressive towards people (well aware that this is irrelevant though)

It might well have been my own dog biting defensively and instinctively that got me – does he need destroying too?

No way do I want the dog destroying. It’s not his fault fundamentally and the behaviour can be rectified. That might need to be with another owner though.

Hunting compo gets me nowhere other than dragging things out.

The guy potentially needs help, and this might be a small step towards him getting that if there’s any shred of self reflection left in there.

(as another aside, I often wonder if those who always call for dogs to be put down also support the death penalty for actual people)

Thanks all. More measured than I maybe expected from a dog thread (which is a good thing).

Key things for me were that I can’t be sure which dog bit me. Might well have been mine but he will have been reacting to the attack, not being aggressive. Also, the Head Of Year in me can’t help considering what a dog might mean to someone with potential mental health issues.

Following a chat with our PCSO, I’ve reported the incident to the Police and given a statement. I was clear that in my opinion the dog doesn’t need destroying (I really don’t want that to happen) – might potentially need rehoming, but at the least the guy needs to be spoken to and ‘advised’ to keep it on a lead and muzzled while outside the house.

Officer who came and took the statement let slip that the guy was already on their database so suspect that’s why they reacted so quickly – reported incident online and they called within the hour and visited to take a statement that evening.

Said it was likely to be referred back to the community team to action, so initially at least a ‘chat’ seems most likely.

Any Fuji Instax camera will see you right. Just check which film type it takes (there are three). As above you really want Square or Wide.

Lomography do some cool Instax cameras too, but they’re generally less straightforward and possibly a bit niche.

RaceFace Chester. Put them on all my bikes now. Cheap, cheerful, and tough enough to survive the low BBs on my bikes when I do venture into rocky territory.

Plus, they come in pink (which may or may not be a consideration for you!).

The Trap Door is hands down some of the best TV ever in any genre. Not sure it’s a cartoon though…

My ‘growing up’ list would probably be something like…

    Tom And Jerry

Road Runner / Wile E Coyote

    Bugs Bunny

    Scooby Doo (pre-Scrappy Poo)

    Jamie And His Magic Torch

    Arabian Knights

    Roobarb And Custard

    Mr Men

    Mr Benn

    Hong Kong Phooey

If The Trap Door counts though, then Chorlton And The Wheelies and The Magic Roundabout get somewhere near the top of the list too.

As a kid I always found Ludwig pretty perturbing.

And, Ralph Bakshi did Spiderman?!? Had no idea. Need to dig that out…

Another compulsive picker here (much to the cosmetic detriment of my arms and legs), but those scabs get examined and flicked but never eaten. UGH!

As an aside, picking scabs replaced biting nails for me as a compulsive habit. Not sure which is worse/better?
