Not sure they’re that great yet, but once they take off and you can get sports versions they could be ace.

GPS map display you can glance at, with speed/distance/time etc? While your expensive phone’s safely tucked away in your pack/pocket, safe and out of the rain? I’ll have one, ta.

Cool, if you want someone slow to test them give us a shout 😉

Let me guess, drop bar 29er+ long tail with integrated Podsac frame bags? Like an off-road Big Dummy?

Sounds interesting Brant. Any more hints?

To be fair though Molgrips, the Valleys are a bit “different” to the Surrey Hills.

    And most other places too.

Cheers drovercycles, I live in Oxfordshire so might be a bit far for a test ride.

Interested to hear why you don’t think it’d be great as a normal mtb though? By the way, I am actually interested rather than “STW interested” ie I don’t agree and want to argue 😉

Excellent, some opinions and experiences, thanks!

Steelsreal, that does look ace. Had wondered about clearance but looks like its OK.

Has no-one got one or ridden one? 🙁

Depends on how your condition affects you I guess.

I’m diabetic, so have to watch my blood sugar. Family worry a bit if I ride on my own but I’m sensible, and let them know where I’m going. Bit of a pain coz sometimes you want to see what’s round the corner or whatever, but it’s less hassle. And you can guarantee the day I slump into an unconscious diabetic heap is the day I don’t ride where I said I would!

Oh yeah, I’m also partially sighted, so can’t focus quickly. Means I have to ride technical downhills really slowly.

I suppose as long as you can physically ride a bike you can adapt, and with the right attitude adjust your expectations too. And most importantly keep enjoying it.

Oh, and obviously Reign in blood. Why? Because it’s **** Slayer.

Hmmm. In terms of nostalgia, Metallica And justice for all. Got it for Xmas 89 on LP and tape, immense. Needs remastering coz it sounds shit mind.

Converge, Jane Doe. Sounds like the workings of me brain, bit like Hulk smash all the time.

    Quicksand, Slip. Mega influence.

Thinking about it though, probably Now 7 coz it were the first album I actually chose.

I’d just like to add that having worked for Our Price between 98-02 I definitely don’t miss that **** place.

Nope djglover, not run a marathon. Since I’ve started running post surgery and diabetes I’m kitted out pretty much the same as when I did winter fell running! Always have a bumbag with blood sugar monitor, spare warm layer (in case I have to stop) and a mix of gels and jelly babies.

Not worrying too much about times, I reckon if I fuel myself up right I can keep going at a steady pace.

I’m going to try a (slow) 24 miles before the race, which I know is further than recommended in training plans but it’s more to reassure me (and my missus!) that I won’t keel over on the day.

I’m pretty used to having to eat even if I don’t feel like it!

Sounds like there’s been some good results for people, good luck to those with races coming up.

I’m an insulin dependent diabetic, so a lot of my training has involved working out how much sugar to eat whilst running. Longest run so far is 18 miles, and touch wood, I’ve avoided any hypos.

Nice one, you should be chuffed with a sub-3hr debut!

The 3P race looks ace. I’ve done a bit of fell running in the past (no races that far though) but I’m a bit slow now for that. Also I’m a bit inconsistent with my speed – seems to depend on my blood sugar on the day. Not sure I’d make the cut-offs. Hope it goes well for you, report back!

+1 for Mendeley, funnily enough taught a session for post-grads/PhD students on it today. Easy to pick up, works with Word too. Loads of support online, if you Google whatever you’re trying to do someone has put instructions online.

Hospital Library here, cleaners are in everyday so not too bad. Dunno about the rest of the hospital.

Staff toilets are usually minging though.

    LOL at all the haters.

Thing is though, I don’t think that people are saying they hate it in a (to quote Clarkson) beardy-sandal way, I reckon the “haters” just want it to be better.

I’d like to watch a program about cars presented by people who are funny, and obviously having a laugh. I don’t want to watch reviews about fuel efficiency and that crap, I want bonkers cars going sideways.

The problem with TG now though is that it’s just not that funny any more, and seems to have run out of ideas.

Wouldn’t catch me going in to one tomorrow.

yeah, I had it last year. Happily sitting at my desk at work, had to go and puke then just lie on the floor until I felt OK enough to go home. It lasted a while, and had a few recurrences once it had gone (or so I thought).

It was, as you say, a nightmare. Turning over in bed could trigger it.

Touch wood though I’ve been fine, so it does get better.

Working until 7 today. 5-7 will be at our Helpdesk. I don’t think there’ll be anyone to help.

9-3 tomorrow. Might write a conference abstract. Or throw out some files. Probably the latter.

Another bonus with Prezi is that the transitions quite often trigger motion sickness in the audience.

    Useful if you hate them.

I’ve got one, I really like it BUT…… it’s really REALLY un-breathable. I’d be far too warm cycling properly for 5 miles in it.

I dunno, I don’t think I’d recommend it to anyone, but I like mine. It’s nice having “normal” looking waterproof stuff. There’s probably newer jackets that are better.

My Nan lives in Garnant, just up the road. She’s been suspiciously quiet on this topic.

Will investigate and get back to you.

I thought the camper van was horrible, a Kath Kidston/Fat Face catalogue wet dream but rubbish as an actual camper. Don’t get me started on them being “brave”.

6 people and a dog in that space? There’s a good chance they’ll poison themselves with the amount of farting going on as they sleep off their meal of organic lentils accompanied by the sickening sound of a Coldplay/Mumford and Sons megamix.

    Egg was cool though.

Worth emailing them – I asked where I could buy one (for a bag that doesn’t come with one) and they sent me one for free.

Which, considering it came from the US, was pretty cool I reckon.

It was pretty good actually ta. Good atmosphere, I enjoyed it.

I didn’t run a great time (personal worst actually), but it was my first race as a diabetic insulin user, so pretty happy I didnt end up in a diabetic coma!

Happy to report that my normal cushioned running shoes midfoot/heel striked me around the Cardiff half marathon today 😉

You want to have a look at the WFRA site Molgrips here[/url]

Fan Fawr race is a quid, and Sugar Loaf race is £4. bargains, and running in nice places close to Cardiff.

Maybe Col Wax needs to work on his technique, so it feels better to do

Nah, I’ve found that just running more has improved my running. It’s pretty simple, and I don’t need to overthink it at my level of ability.

I’ve got some barefoot shoes, and they’re OK. Works different muscles when I’m running and I quite like the wide toe box.

I also wear cheapo Nike Pegasus (last years colour from Sports Direct) and I can run faster, further and longer in them. So I’ll stick to them in the future I reckon.

Oh yeah, don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying I don’t enjoy running, coz it’s ace.

But it’s not easy, and if you push yourself it’s not exactly enjoyable at the time. Well it is, but it’s not pleasant. well, OK you do have times when you feel like it’s no effort and you could run forever, but not always.

Oh, you know what I mean.

How many of the thousands running the Cardiff half marathon this weekend feel they have a “chance”?

*Waves highly cushioned shoes around* That’s me! I’ve got no chance!

Cardiff half is my first race for about 7 years. I will 100% run a personal worst. But thats cool, I’ll beat someone (probably) and I know that “racing” will push me more than just going for a run.

To be honest Molgrips, your description of running just sounds like you’re not that fit, and need to run more.

That’s not me trying to wind you up by the way, you sound like you’re in a similar situation to me.

I used to be 10 1/2 stone, and ran 8.30 half marathons by running once a week. I’m now 14 1/2 stone, cycle 35 miles a week, and have run 3 times a week since April. I’ll be lucky if I finish it under 10 minute miles.

I’m fitter than people I work with, but I weigh too much and havent built up enough running fitness.

I figure that pushing myself by entering a race which I’ll struggle to do well in will lead me to train more and improve, rather than thinking about where I put my feet when I’m running.

Oh, and you know you said running feels shit? It always does, doesn’t matter how fast or fit you are. You just get to feel shit for less time per given distance as you get better!
