I hate people. But I love gatherings, isn’t it ironic?

I can see why, bunch of savages in here.

    Graeme by any chance?

looks like it. The windsurfing and snowboarding gives it away, knock that on the head and you’ll stay undercover for longer.

derekrides that windsurf shop owner or whatever it was tyrionl1 I’ve been helping at a local cub group (7-10 year old boys and, shock horror, girls). They’ve been using sheath knives, done fire lighting and cooked over an open fire. I’ll let them know they’re banned from it.

Wow. You are blaming the helmet?

Look at the bigger picture. Step away from the bike.

Me hitting the back of the van was clearly the main issue here. If I wasn’t wearing my helmet I’d have banged my head, but in the opinion of a medical professional, not hard enough to have caused a serious injury.

My bike helmet moving pushed my glasses into my nose, so no I’m not blaming it but it caused more injuries than it prevented.

I know anecdote isn’t evidence but I’m just trying to point out it’s not as simple as “wear a helmet or you’ll die”, and using my own experience to show that.

Dunno. I pretty much always wear one.

However, I managed to cycle into the back of a van in traffic a couple of months ago. My fault.

Left me with a broken nose and a cut to the bone on my nose – my helmet pushed my glasses into it and caused the injuries. I was pretty surprised as I know how to put it on properly, and it had retention system so didn’t move much. Drs reckoned I would’ve been less injured if I wasn’t wearing it.

Can’t say it’s made me more pro or anti helmet really.

Going with my brother in law to Cardiff on the Friday. First time I’ve been to the cricket since watching local teams with my Grandad. What should I expect (other than a sensational win by England and a hangover the next day).

Getting the tyres off is the hardest thing tbh so watch a YouTube video to get the gist – might sound daft, I can get an MTB tyre off with my thumbs but Brompton one’s are a bit of a nightmare.

I tend to leave a track pump, spanners and spare tubes at work and get the bus or taxi if I puncture. Only happened once or twice in 4 years commuting on it.

I bloody love mine, done a bit of touring, the Brompton world champs, bridleway riding, road rides in the peak district as well as commuting. It’s ace.

In true STW style, I’ve never been to it so don’t know if it sells cheesecake but there’s Indulge, a dessert place? (it’s got a picture of one on the website)

Bit of a mix-up at the nursery, think they gave the pudding to the other UN so I can see why the United Nations might have to be involved

You might think gravel specific bikes are cool but certain posters on here may have moaned a bit about their bike-industry-trendy-pointlessness. But then bought one.

And then posted a picture and review of it, although to be fair you can’t see the stem angle on it.

Could be worse, you seen any of those “gravel grinders”, utterly utterly pointless in the UK. Even worse when it’s a big brand bandwagon jumper. eg:

Stayed here a couple of years ago, in the Coed Y Brenin forest part way round Dragon’s Back red route. Very secluded, wood burner,wi-fi but no TV though.

Really liked it but it’s well out of the way, you can’t really nip out to the pub. But for a self-contained week it was good, took plenty of food and booze.

I started the other thread and have to say I’ve been out for a bit and n Oxford and it was disappointingly calm. DD, I’ve dealt with brizzle in a professional capacity and they’re ace, hope everything’s alright with you.

Following on from the crap cities thread, I lived in Newport for ten years and after witnessing the hordes of valley commandos descend on the centre for £1 bottles of Hoffmeister any night from Wednesday to Sunday, Black Friday is a bit of a let down.

Just to balance things out a bit, I got your intention Yunki, and it made me smile that at least one forum poster isn’t a total bellend.

(disclaimer, I don’t know you so maybe I’ll reserve judgement on your total bellend score)

DrP, I’m not sure if you know this but it looks like it doesn’t come with a warranty.

Non-liars, especially the “I never lie” ones, how do you function in day-to-day life?

Genuine question BTW, as I’d say not being 100% truthful is fairly essential for normal social interaction and politeness, someone asks how you are, you say fine even if you’ve got the bad Aids or whatever?

OP ignore this lot taking the piss repeating themselves. Back on topic, you’ve probably not sold it because you’re asking too much for a niche frame with no warranty.

Would be better if they called it “Arsehole Parade”. Much more reflective of the gonks that’re on it.

I work in the JR and commute from Banbury, don’t think I’d fancy it from Leamington (this is by train and bike though, dunno what driving would be like).

I live there (Grimsbury), it’s OK. Chocolate factory and Finelady’s bakery smell is more regular than the coffee place (and nicer!)

House prices are pretty reasonable compared to Oxford and even Bicester now.

Shops are a bit better than a town of it’s size, and Sainsbury’s is one of the “champagne ones” so has a bit more of a Waitrose-ie stock.

It’s a bit dull in the evenings, not a lot of nice places to eat or drink, and the town centre’s pretty dead from about 7.00 onwards.

I’ve lived in much worse places, but it’s not top of my list for excitement.

Thanks for the tips (especially “clothes” bikebouy!)

To be honest I’m wondering how wet my arse is going to be in a SOT pootling along a river/canal. I’ve paddled normal kayaks with a spraydeck just wearing boardshorts or thermals.

Hello Kitty is not actually a cat (BBC link)

More BBC conspiracy/cover-up to come I’d bet, turn’s out Hello Kitty is actually a British school girl.

I am hoping they surround Ringland in Newport

I used to work in the Library in Ringland, was a bit odd being overlooked by the Celtic Manor. Can’t have been the nicest view for the golfers.

And my experience of the youth of Ringland is they’d probably nick any unmanned barriers!

According to the internet, average body fat for an adult male sprinter is 8-10%, so I’m assuming you’ll be around that figure? (as opposed to being a round figure obvs)

    Sounds like

Pain and stiffness at the bottom of the heel are common symptoms of plantar fasciitis. The pain may be sharp or dull and is generally the worst first thing in the morning. Climbing stairs and spending a long time standing are also painful and can be accompanied by swelling, redness or tenderness of the heel. Pain may develop quickly after the start of an activity or take longer to develop.

I think some of this “degrees are useless” stuff depends on how you define success. I’ve had factory and printing jobs where I could’ve earned 40k plus with overtime once I’d worked my way up. But I would’ve been bored out of my head doing the same thing over and over again for 10 hours a day. I went back to uni at 30, did a Masters and now have loads more options and opportunities, and for me a more rewarding career. It’s not just about money.

I sort of want a crosser.
I sort of want a chilled road bike.
I sort of want a point to point tourer for the odd longer ride.

Sounds like you want a gravel grinder.

(There’s plenty of bikes that’d tick those boxes without feeding the litigation happy twunts at Spesh. That bike’s like buying cargo trousers from Next. And wearing it with a North Face fleece.

    Don’t do it.)

Sorry b r, I’d say you were wrong in the original thread. And doubly wrong sticking it in a new one too.

Best you can hope for is that people ignore this thread, you might get away with it then, as long as no-one posts on this one.

Mine’s hovered at about 30-50 for the last 2 or 3 years. Last count was 53. Haematologist doesn’t seem bothered, they haven’t said to do anything or avoid MTBs etc, just be careful if I get unusual bleeding or bruising. No diagnosis either.

Basically what I’m saying is a low count isn’t always as bad as the internet says, and doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll have to give up wheels in the air riding.

Rode out to the climb before Bradfield via the Strines pub, watched the racing then followed the route back in to Shef. It a was bloody brilliant, such an amazing atmosphere. Went to Leeds and Harrogate yesterday, was also ace. Yorkshire should be proud, put on a hell of a show.
