Bilateral compartment decompression done yesterday. Doesn’t feel too bad, bit sore but OK. Could be the painkillers though 😀

Should be cycling in 3 weeks, and fingers crossed will be able to start running then too.

    Ta for the good lucks.

Did always feel a bit unfair passing the Army lot with boots, rifles, massive backpacks etc. Still, gave them a chance to moan at me instead of to each other 😆

Ta TSY. There’s the Banbury Tri but I think that is a bit ambitious.

Will check out the Cherwell site.

    Cheers Molgrips.

Not overjoyed at the prospect of surgery but it’s a bit depressing watching mates fell race & BGR attempts, supporting my Mrs at the London Marathon etc.

Can’t wait to get out for a run!

Interesting reading, I used to love running on the ridges around Pen Y Fan. Used to go up on weekdays, usually bumped into some squaddies who enjoyed a bit of a pisstake at the fact I was up there for “fun” while they were getting paid.

So no running for me for a few years (this is a bit Runner’s World forum/you go girl sorry). Went diabetic, got my insulin levels sorted so I could run, then got compartment syndrome in both legs.

Finally having surgery next Tuesday, so finger’s crossed I will be making my running comeback by the Autumn.
Will be looking for a 10k race around North Oxfordshire if anyone has a recommendation?

yeah cheers all, I suppose something like the eTrex 2o was what I was thinking about rather than one with OS mapping on screen (only really because of the cost). Garmin bike computer looks interesting too.

depends what you want to do really? Not exactly what you asked for but I use a Brompton bag on the front (approx 30l) and panniers on the rear rack. Been OK riding up some long road climbs Shef to Hathersage) and was pretty secure riding the Llangollen canal.

I’ve got a couple of Paclite jackets and to be honest they’re pretty boil in the bag too. Also feel quite clammy against bare skin. Fold up small though. One’s got pit zips which helps.

I prefer my event jacket, the new Gore fabrics are a lot better as far as I can tell too.

You know what? I wish I wasn’t influenced by marketing. I don’t like the idea that there’s someone cleverer than me that can influence me.

    So I avoid it.

    But.

I only buy Heinz beans. And think Patagonia clothes are ace. I’m totally influenced by marketing.

If you said that you hate the idea of marketing and actively avoid it Teej, no-one would disagree with you. But I think it’s pretty impossible to avoid it and not be influenced in a psoitive way, een if you don’t want to.

Rode from Dollegau to Barmouth with Mrs CW. Ate our sandwiches with a coffee. Had an ice-cream. Sat on the beach. Rode back, stopped for a pint on the way.

Sat outside a cottage overlooking CYB. No TV. Listening to CSNY, with a beer.

    This Jubilee thing’s alright innit.

Ignore Molgrip’s comment about St Fagans open air museum. Make’s me suicidal thinking about it. It is immensely boring.

However, this might be influenced by my memories of school trips there rather than fact.

To be honest, there’s a danger this will go all STW-off tangent.

Slayer are cool, if you went last night I hope they were ace.

Right, hang on a minute. I know Ian Mackaye isn’t racist. Minor Threat is one of my favourite bands, along with Fugazi. I even bought the Pailhead album, that’s the extent of my man-crush on him. I just don’t think it’s his finest moment.

I appreciate that Slayer are a bit like a horror film – it’s entertaining, they don’t mean it. I just don’t like that bit of their schtick.

Don’t get me wrong, they’re ace. My first guitar was a BC Rich Warlock. I love Slayer. But it would be cooler if they didnt have that side to them.

    Off of wiki:

Slayer has been accused of holding Nazi sympathies, due to the band’s eagle logo bearing resemblance to the Eagle atop swastika and the lyrics of “Angel of Death”.Angel of Death was inspired by the acts of Josef Mengele, the doctor who conducted human experiments on prisoners during World War II at the Auschwitz concentration camp, and was dubbed the “Angel of Death” by inmates. Throughout their career, the band members were asked about these accusations, and have stated numerous times they do not condone Nazism and are merely interested in the subject. It has also been noted several times that the album was produced by Rick Rubin who is Jewish, and that it would be irrational for Latino American band members Araya and Lombardo “to benefit the Aryan race.”

Slayer’s cover of Minor Threat’s “Guilty of Being White” raised questions about a possible message of white supremacy in the band’s music. The controversy surrounding the cover involved the changing of the refrain “guilty of being white” to “guilty of being right”, at the song’s ending. This incensed Minor Threat frontman Ian MacKaye, who stated “that is so offensive to me.” King said it was changed for “tongue-in-cheek” humor as he thought the allegation of racism at the time was “ridiculous”

Dunno. Don’t like that stuff. Ace band but I’m not cool with that. Doesn’t stop me listening to it.

    Jeff’s still ill.

I have some misgivings about the white power aspects of Slayer but having seen them live, Tom Araya casually observing the total chaos in the pit in front of him is one of the coolest things EVER.

I went last October. Weather was nice mostly, rained a bit on a couple of days but was nicely hot (28-30).

Very touristy and ex-pats. Lots of Scottish people when we were there so might feel like Scotland?

It was OK, nice weather and “easy” as everyone spoke English, but didnt feel like there was much local stuff. Probably wouldn’t go back.

    Go to Scotland.

Quick look at Bradley’s profile says location is Oxfordshire. So as it’s an Oxfordshire firefighter, and his dad’s in the fire brigade, he might know him.

    Bit off really pebblebeach.

Just don’t bother, you’ll look like you’re a Sad Rad Dad. Buy a proper skateboard.

I got one of these Decathlon ones and bivied in April with it. Was OK but ended up sleeping with me clothes and a hat on. I’ve got a down bag which is warmer but I prefer synthetic when bivvying as you don’t have to worry about it getting wet.

Having something decent between you and the floor is pretty important too.

You’d hate it if you saw me, triple ring, MTB SPDs, saddle bag, old Zefal pump on the frame, full finger gloves and an Aldi jersey. And grey socks. Was in lycra though, no baggies.

Perhaps it’s the way I was brought up to ride, when I hit the road I was in the company of very experienced riders. They were very keen that everything be just so – your bike, your kit and your respect for the road.

I think you’re right. I grew up skateboarding and listening to hardcore. They encourage you to do things your own way, **** what anyone else thinks.

We are 138 is my favourite Misfit’s song. Probably the version off Evilive with Rollins on it.

Although the first time I heard it was on tape and so distorted it sounded like someone was playing a trumpet in the background.

Good choice HTS. The straps are removable on mine, came with 3 different coloured ones. I’m currently using orange.

Well I say currently, they were the ones that were on it and I haven’t bothered changing them.

I *think* my mum bought me a pair of trousers from a shop in Sheffield where Karen Van Meerbeck was working.

Problem is/was that I’ve fitted an old pair given to me by my brother-in-law to my road bike. Rode it, no drama.

Fitted a new pair to my commuter and didn’t bother checking the retention strength. Which apparently was set to “concrete”.
