I have used Smudge’s (MTB Batteries) for years. Great service and back up. Can’t comment on the other brand.

Cwmcarn only has the Caffell trail open due to logging. The Forest of Dean trail centre is close as is Ashton Court in Bristol though.

Eat…. Lots… Especially when riding solo… And don’t go OTB’s in front of a sleep deprived solo and then get upset because he laughs at you…. Still laughing 12 months later…

Time ATAC user here. Bombproof, light, loads of float and no issues with mud. Use em on my road bike and MTB with Spesh S-Works MTB shoes. Can’t fault em!

Great event, raced it as teams the last 2 years but went solo this time…. That sponge climb became a bit of a mission as the race went on. Great support from the faster riders who were cuirtious in their requests to pass a dilapidated solo. Also great to see a good friend win the solo vet category on his single speed. Chapeau Steve Day.

12 hour solo here. Hardtail ridden for 24 hours at Mayhem so 12 hours will only be half as painful 😆

The new calliper I was sent has been redesigned and there is more metal around the area shown above. Give them a ring Pondy.

I had this, phoned Hope asking for advice and was asked to post them the calliper. One week later I received a brand new calliper and complimentary set of pads.

Depends what your after, for a family campsite I can recommend http://www.greenwayfarm.moonfruit.com
Rushmere Farm campsite is near Coleford and close to Cannop for the trail center.

Solved this very issue on my Orange Five using a piece of old inner tube, some zip ties and a bottle cage secured to the top tube. Easy to reach and out of the way of any corruption thrown up from the trail.

Was in a scratch team of 4 for the 12 hour on Saturday…. Did anybody actually find any grip on that first section?.. Great event, enjoyed it a lot

Fitted XT rings to my RaceFace Evolve chain set last year. There is a little bit of filing that needs to be done. I used the old rings as a template, scored the xt rings where the metal needed removing, took about an hour to do the job in total.

As others have said there are no compatibility issues. I did the same on my Spesh Crave after witnessing a GXP BB disintergrate after very little use. Swapped it out for XT and a hope BB.

Very interested in a pair of these for my 29er hardtail for XC use… Which rims would be the recommendations of the collective?

What I liked about MTB Batteries was that Smudge upgraded the batteries on both lights so that I get over 5 hours on max settings from both lights. With another set of batteries as standby a 24 Solo is not an issue. Customer service is fantastic too.

Depends on what you want to spend really!
Have a V2 and Lumen 800 from Smudge at MTB Batteries, had the V2 for a few years and just upgraded my head lamp to the 800. Use them at 12 and 24 hour events and they are more than adequate for my needs.

I had a similar accident, used a solicitor who was also a cyclist to handle my case, take pictures of your injuries and damaged kit. Get your bike inspected and a damage report from a reputable bike shop. I can recommend the solicitor who I used e-mail me if you want his details.
Definitely get checked out at A&E too. I felt a little battered after the incident but couldn’t move for a week the next morning. Also be prepared to wait, these things are not settled quickly. Good luck and hope there are no serious injuries.

The way I trimmed mine was to mount the lever horizontally, slide the rubber cover down the hose, cut hose and insert new barb, unscrew the unwanted length of hose, using new olive reinstall. I am sure someone will tell me I did it wrong but the brakes work fine and did not require bleeding.

Got mine from CRC about 6 weeks ago, ordered them with spare barbs and olives and cut them to size without the need for any bleeding. Superb brakes at a great price.

Mike, what is this “gel in the threads of a drink bottle” trick you speak of???
For 4 hours I use high 5 2/1, flapjacks or banana and some haribo, I too carry the odd gel in case of emergencies

I rode QE last week, the last time I rode there was way back in 94. I was a little disappointed in how short the loop was although it did have some nice sections…. Glad I am home now and can easily access the Verderers Trail at the FoD…

Along with “littlegirlbunny” I was also overbiked on my Orange Five, I passed you just prior to the finish of your penultimate lap…. Mucho respect on your 3rd place in the ladies solo.
Second time at this event and would recommend it to anyone who hasn’t done it. No issues with the quick boys and girls passing they were all very respectful and this added to the enjoyment of the whole event.
Will the lime green glow in the dark Five be back next year? Hell yeah!

Loving this thread… Utter panic about camping lol, It’s always been a first come first served basis for camping at events.
By the way I am parked outside the gates now with my ex Gerry Cottle Circus big top and miles of tape to ensure I get the very best spot 8)
