Individual touch? Is it just convention that they go on the non drive side?

Why have you put a chainstay protector on?

Good question!! Had one and put it on.

Its got a chain tug as its a slot drop out frame – the tensioner on the DB was one of the sprung derailleur types

It rides very nicely indeed, I'm just about there now with saddle, bar and stem fiddling.
Compared to the DB Mojito it feels a much more sorted bike – its diffucult to put my finger on really (and could be something to do with the fact its new and shiny!) but I would say there is an appreciable increase in ride quality with the steel frame over the alu, it's longer in the top tube which suits me and is quieter because it doesn't need a chain tensioner.
I'm looking forward to getting her on some singletrack without snow as the speed and handling side of things seems promising as well – it's one of those bikes that makes you want to go fast whereas the DB felt good but it didn't make you want to go flat out.
So, whilst the DB is good and a very good intro to the big wheeled thing for little cash the new toy feels a good deal better. 😀

Its the one that I took from my old DB Mojito, it was on a Truvativ isoflow chainset.

Still delighted with mine and loving the 29er thing, so much so that I've just taken delivery of an Inbred 29er frame to build a 'for best' big wheeler.
The DB's been great in all the mud recently, had it as a 1×9 through the dryish autumn which worked well.

Certainly not in its first incarnation – might put some on over the long dusty summer I'm sure we'll have in 2010.

I'm running a 203mm on the front of mine with '04 mono minis and it works very well for me – 14st on a 5'' bike in the Peaks.
    Very easy to bleed.
Can't compare to SLX though – I've never used them.

I'd recommend using the T slots, so easy and very secure. I've never tried the clamps as my aero bars (VW) are too deep.

wombat – like I said I have been very suprised by how sorted it feels. It's got to be worth considering.
Bigsi – Yeah, a 29er full susser is something I would like to try, but for now the mojito will do for a winter/child carrying/dog exercising/quick blast bike – great value!

Right, I took the plunge and bought one from Go Outdoors in Wolverhampton for £199, never thought I'd buy a £200 bike again!
I was ready to be underwhelmed but actually I have been amazed. It rides really well – very comfy but still exciting with good acceleration, the transmission works as it should (no chain slipping)and it looks pretty good as well. I've taken off the cable pull discs and replaced them with some Hayes Strokers I had laying around so now it will stop me on the downhills.
I've done plenty of miles on it over the weekend and its left me thinking if my 5'' susser is really worth 10 times more???!!!

Big up for the Jetta from me. I've had an 07 TDI S from new and can't fault it. Its done nearly 87k now and just seems to get quicker and more economical (upto 60mpg at 70mph). Huge boot, comfy, decent toys (automatic lights, wipers, 4xew, air con – even on the base model), looks good imo and hasn't put a foot wrong. Its not the kind of car teenage boys have a poster of on their bedroom wall, but for an everyday car it is superb.
I'm sure Civics are very nice too.

That sounds encouraging, looks like a Mojito might be the right bike to try to 29er thing with.

My 08 model works fine with a 591, although the 07 and 08 frames are different I'd be very suprised if yours wouldn't work with a 591. Sorry for a vague response!

I replaced mine with Bob's Bike Bits resin ones which seem to be wearing very well.

Great system, and I like the fact that you don't see many about compared with Orange's, Santa Cruz's and the like – and yes I did try both of those brands before I bought my Trance X.
I only realised how good the system was after I came off it for the first time going far faster than my skills allow!

Pack?? Is this something you've received recently? I've had nothing since our entry confirmation.

When I used one after Christmas I had to make the order on the phone. I was told they can't be used to order online.

Are the bars Thule? I have some VW ones for my car (Jetta)which don’t seem to mark the roof at all.

    Best;
Mk1 MX-5 1.6 – Brilliant fun, simple but amazingly well engineered.
A close second would be a Mk2 VW Golf GTI 8V for similar reasons.

    Worst;
Pick one from many – Merc A Klasse hire car – must have been designed by someone who had never driven.

I found the only way to get Advantages onto my XM321 rims was with a cartridge.

Cycle Store in Congleton had a demo when I popped in a month ago. Medium I think.

Its reviewed as part of a £1k full susser group test in MBR this month and wins the test. Tester comments on how well the Giant shock works – possibly better than Fox on same platform.
I have an ’08 X2 and love it – takes everything in its stride.

I haven’t done any biking out there but I have looked into it as I have visited the area quite a lot. There looks to be plenty of potential in the mountains as mentioned above. There is a company based in Lagos who do guided trips – their name escapes me but a quick google search should root them out.

As above, use a razor or stanley and flappy tubes are gone.

pjt201, I changed my ghetto set up this weekend from Conti Mountain Kings to Maxxis Advantage. The MKs went on fine with a track pump but the Advantage’s needed a blast from a CO2 cartridge. So its probably worth trying that method. Oh, and use plenty of soapy water.

Not sure if its the exact model but something very similar gets a very poor write up in one the lesser mags this month.

Just had some Hayes Stroker Rydes from Merlin for about £100 for my 2nd bike and I am very impressed. I’ve got Mono Minis on my main bike and I’d have to say that the Rydes are easier to set up, have more power and probably have a better feel.

    Where abouts on the Heath?
I am looking at the Heath right now through my office/spare room window.
Are you enjoying the Heath and St edwards then?

I’ve just fitted some Rydes and have been very impressed. Soooo simple to fit, good modulation and plenty of power – I guess the Trails must be even better.
