Yes, a different tool is required… Park BBT-29 would do it.

My PX bike came with a Mega Evo and its been fine for 3 years and over 5000 miles (summer bike). I got a spare from PX for about £15 that’s sitting in a drawer waiting for the old one to wear out

Have a look at senditnow – about £12 for 48 hr delivery up to 30kg. I’ve used it to send a few of the kid’s bikes and had no problems. (you drop the parcel at the Post Office and a Parcel Force sticker is attached ;))

Probably your best bet will be to do a route around Macclesfield forest, Wildboarclough and Three Shires Head. The surface is mostly rocky so holds up well in the wet – you will be riding through streams rather than mud.

The below link gives a pretty good idea of where to go.

I got a PX bike with 10 speed Rival on earlier this year having not used SRAM before and have been very impressed.
It has a nice notchy feel to it and has been completely reliable.
It compares well weight wise with Ultegra too.

Hi Thorlz, just seen this thread and thought I’d throw my thoughts in as I was tossed on the horns of a similar as dilemma recently.
Firstly my eldest daughter measures up pretty much the same as your son and has long since got too big for her cnoc 16. I really should have got her a beinn 20 large months ago but never got round to it as she was happy racing about on the cnoc.
It was her sixth birthday this week so after much deliberation I ordered her a beinn 24 rather than a 20 large which would have been the best fit for her right now. I adjusted the 24 down as small as possible and she took to it no problems. Is it a little bit big? Yes, slightly, but she can ride it confidently and safely and it will last her beyond next spring when a beinn 20 large possibly wouldn’t.
I think you have made the right decision…. we are near Leek if you are not sure.

Another vote from me on how good these frames are.
On sizing I’d look at the 19.5 as well. I’m 6’2” and a bit and went from a 21” inbred to a 19.5” scandal ( both 29er) and prefer the stand over of the smaller frame, I still only run a 70mm stem so there is plenty of scope for taller riders on the 19.5
I’ve fitted the superstar headset also, and it seems a good deal when you look at price, weight and the it comes with two crown races and the bearings are available from superstar when they need changing – on one don’t sell replacement bearings….. see numerous other threads about that.

So sorry to hear that. I’m in Leek so I’ll keep an eye out. B@st@rds.

I could also do with one of these. – previous threads seem to suggest they can be used multiple times, so please excuse the hijack glen815.

£200 in my CRC basket and I would love to save a tenner!

I’ve got both. The inbred is a great frame, the scandal is a little bit better in my eyes. Not a harsh ride and a lot lighter than the inbred.

Fulcrums are great. 18 months old now mostly used on rocky Peak trails and they have been faultless. In fact I gave them an inspection when I was building the new bike and the original grease was pristine under the seals.
Not run them tubless as I am a bit of a serial tyre changer and can’t be bothered with the faff.

Very pleased with mine after a few rides.

I was tempted by the pacenti rims but decided against them after reading threads on mtbr where people found them soft and easily damaged, also JRA list the TL28 ‘ for xc use only’ and mentions they should be used with high tyre pressures to avoid damage.

I’ve got some of their roadie shoes with the boa-loc system and have had no issues at with them.
They seem well made, are comfy and do what they are supposed to.
Sizing wise, I went for a size up (like I do with Shimano MTB shoes).

Interesting thread. Please post a review of the Anthem when you’ve christened it. I’ve been hovering over the ‘buy’ button on one of those for a while now.

My daughter was three and a half years old when she went from Rothan to Cnoc 16 and was flying solo on the Cnoc within 30 minutes of first getting on it. So I guess she could have managed it sooner had she had the chance.
For anybody reading this who is planning a family there is a nineteen month gap between our daughters and that gap proved perfect in terms of the younger one being ready to take over the Rothan as the older one started to pedal.
Not that ‘cycle succession planning’ should figure in your family planning in any way!

I have had the Fulcrum Red Metal 29 SL for over two years and cant fault them.
They feel solid, the hubs have stood up to abuse in the peaks. I haven’t tried to convert them to tubeless as I like to change tyres regularly.
You can get the Red Power xl for about £150 from Germay.

Saw them on an incline just before crossing the A53 near Upper Hulme.
    Very impressive.
6 man break had about 5 minutes advantage over the main field.

As it is an evolution of an existing platform I fail to see how they can justify the price other than to make it unattainable for most and thus an aspirational ‘halo’ model.
    Would love one though!
On the subject of SC 29ers I nipped in to an SC dealer to have look at the new SL 29er (very nice too) the only problem was that the young fella wasnt interested in talking about the SL (at the upper end of my budget) and possibly making a sale, all he tried to do was sell me a Tallboy by telling me how good that was. For another £800…
I left feeling that a £1000 frame was a somehow not worthy of my consideration.

Hope do a mount for this I think. But he will need to go to a 180mm disc.

I’m the same height as you and found that 29ers just feel right – for me. I’m sure taller guys are quite happy on 26ers and 29ers will be right for some smaller riders – horses for courses. I bought an Inbred 29er frame to build as a rigid single speed hack, its now my bike of choice, usually in a 3×9 100mm set up.
To underline the point I liked it so much that I sold a very nice 26” 120mm trail bike as it was getting no use, I was always out on the inbred.
Try to get a demo on a wagon wheeler – you might just like it.

Have a look at the Fuji HS20. equivalent of 720mm ish zoom at can shoot about 8fps. Plenty of deals about for under £250.

All sorted, thanks for the replies. A bit of a wiggle and some more force did it.

The threaded bolts had moved out of the lowers, so I’ll try some force/wiggle type technique. Just concerned that only a few drops of oil have drained out.

They move beyond their normal travel – probably about 150mm of stanchion showing. I’ll poke the bolts through the lowers again and give em another whack.
