Halfords/Bikehut citrus degreaser, or just white spirit depending on what is closest to hand.

    2017. I’m busy this July.
Apparently since the programme it’s been a busy event, although there have been quite a few people signing up and not turning up which is understandable really as it’s quite an undertaking.
I like the camaraderie of audaxing, you come across people every now and then and you know you’re all suffering the same.

I’m hoping to do it, I’ll decide later in the year once I’ve ridden a few more long days in the saddle. It works out at about 300km per day for 4 days so I need to be confident I can at least have a good shot at it.
I do have permission from the wife but I don’t want to ride it alone so I need to finish convincing one of my riding buddies, (I think he’s about 50% so far).
Cycling up the coast of Scotland would be a glorious adventure!

If I’m riding alone I usually take a road bike, get into a rhythm and put some miles down. Mountain biking is a social affair for me, I’m more than happy to put up with a bit of faffing for a blast around some trails with some mates.

I’ve never washed mine. I wipe the mud off on the wet grass in the garden before I bring it inside and dry it on a hook. I see no benefit in it being spotless because I’ll make it filthy again a few days later.

I went on a quieter one, it involved a 20 mile or so ride around local trails stopping at all the pubs on the way. You could use this as a second day option after an epic ride day or something.

I’m with Binners, I’m having to use some wet lube before almost every ride. It has been filthy riding in Cornwall recently.

I’m with Jekkyl here. I tend to scan over the articles on rides in places around the world I’ll never visit, whereas I find UK based riding features very interesting.

Yes. Common but seemingly rarely reported issue.

The solo air fork actually has a second air chamber, and occasionally (I think after a hard ragging) an airlock can be produced between the two chambers.

The fix is simple. If you unscrew the allen key bolt in the bottom of the air leg you will find a hidden Schrader valve. Push this to release the air lock and the forks should fully extend again. Be careful of any fork oil spraying onto your disc.

I scratch a mark in the anodising, or use the graded marking, depending on the bike. I rarely move the seatpost though.

But seriously who isn’t running a dropper

Me. I had one once and sold it.

I successfully shortened mine without bleeding.
    I followed this:

I didn’t have a bleed kit on standby but I knew my mate did just in case.

How cheap is cheap? I’ll sell you a set of Sora 9spd shifters for £30 if you like, I’ve just upgraded to 105. They are the ones with the downshift on the hoods, version 3400 maybe. My email’s in my profile.

The tyres don’t replace suspension because there is no damping. My rigid fat bike feels like a rigid bike whatever pressure is running, which is why the Bluto fork is popular.

This morning’s commute suggests that the season has changed. I think it’s time to break out the long sleeve jersey.

It’s a great thing to go to a significant geographical point and ride home (presuming the OP lives in Bristol).

Not done it, but the A30 makes for a stressful cycling experience. I’d take some quieter, although hillier roads.

Sound like a good adventure though.

My Fatty’s been languishing in the shed for a couple of months, through injury and then a leaky brake, but this thread inspired me to sort it out and take it for a blast this evening. It was excellent! Thanks guys.

Good fun, wide Q factor takes a little getting used to and the front end’s a bit heavy to get up and over things, but they’re great for charging over stuff.

I’m 6’2 and have a large. I don’t think there’s much in it between them but I’ve not ridden a medium so I can’t compare. The large feels fine to me but it’s probably personal preference as to whether you prefer stability or chuckability (chuckability is a relative term on a fat bike!)

How cheap is cheap? I bought a second hand On One Fatty about a year ago which I’ve given a good riding and am considering moving on. Bit awkward to post though. I’m a big fan of second hand.

I have five and am now operating a one in one out policy. The wife has three bikes so she’s understanding.

    Steel hardtail (my proper MTB)
    Fat bike
    Jump bike
    Geared roadbike
Singlespeed roadbike (probably gets the most use of all).

I ride them all but am finding the maintenance can start to take too much of my time – I’m quite particular with bikes running well. Five is a good range.

I think my Fatty may have to be sold shortly to make space for something else.

Next week? If you’re here this Sunday morning a few of us are riding a short Porthtowan- Chapel Porth- St Agnes Beacon loop. It’s some coast path but we ride it regularly and have no problems so long as we give way to walkers.

I find Cardinham good fun, it’s not long but a quick couple of laps at pace are well worthwhile. Drop by Lanhydrock for an hour or so too and session the blues (Timber trail and Hart trail).

Also as above. Poldice Valley (although you’ll need somebody to show you around to get the best out of it, check out the Cornwall Freeriders facebook page if you want some gnarr). The Track for dirt jumping. Grogley is steep and rooty. Quite a bit of XC bumbling around too involving bits of coast path around Helston, Penwith, and some good riding around Minions on Bodmin moor if you have an explore.

The road riding’s good too, plenty of hills and views. A favourite of mine is the North Coast down from St Agnes past Portreath, Godrevy, St Ives, Zennor and down to Land’s End.

I don’t use it whilst riding, I prefer to be untethered. I do use the route planning bit of the website though, that’s a good tool. I occasionally wonder how far I have ridden in a month/year/lifetime or how fast I am compared to other people but generally if I know them we’ll just ride up the hills together and if I don’t know them then it’s irrelevant to me. I have friends who get a kick out of the statistics, and if that keeps them motivated then that’s great.
