Will there be a jump of doom this year?!

I hope so, I missed that last year.

No idea how to transfer it though.

I think you can just turn up and tell them that you’re the original entry’s name?

Dimension Data have declared, so Cummings has now appeared on the rider list.

    Calm and cool.
    Steady lanes commute.
    Arm warmer gaps.

I’m not against this, less often with more content seems a reasonable compromise. Conversely, the quality of the paper is not a big deal for me.

I fell off. I hit a hidden stump at speed on the cx bike on a bridleway. I did a superman impression and landed in a heap with a bruised foot and some annoyance.

Publisher. I didn’t know I had it but it turns out I do. Thanks for that.

I use a Pakajak. Wear it several times a week and it’s been going strong for three years. It does now have a hole in it though.

Best cycling top I have owned.

I have recently found it a little bit same-y these days with too many “Me and my mates went biking to such-and-such fab sunny place and here are some nice photos”. It feels a world away from the pop-out-my-backdoor-for-a-quick-blast-around-the-hills riding I do.

I do agree with this, I would rather be reading about UK riding than exotic locations I’m never going to find myself visiting with a bike.

I think the STW website is better than Road.cc. I find it clearer and easier to navigate. Road.cc always looks a bit of a mess to me and the same articles are linked at the top and the page and again halfway down.
I only ever look at STW with the adverts turned off though so it’s clean and clear.
I do agree that the STW subscription form process isn’t very intuitive though.
Also, the log in button seems to disappear under the top banner adverts.

I’m only in it for the print subscription, as others have said I spend all day looking at a screen and digital magazines just don’t do it for me. I don’t think a few extra quid a year is unreasonable.

Not bake the rotors, no. Cleaning them with some isopropyl alcohol should suffice.
    Give this a read:

Fella with the Beard giving out beer at the end?

    *waves* and at midnight too

Nice one. Riding past the 12hr finishers in the rain knowing that I had the same to go again was not a high point!

Rumour has it that the sintered pads are less prone to contamination through this slight leakage than resin. Less absorbent or something.

Looks a lot better than the old Aeris. An unforgivably bad looking bike.

I love the look of the Mk1, best looking FS bike I’ve seen in a long time.

I did, but didn’t find out it was a special cycle to work day until I had arrived.

It occurred to me on the way that there’s little point in encouraging cycling to work at the onset of Autumn and 6 weeks before the clocks go back. Wouldn’t it be better to it in April or May so that those thinking about it have a summer to get into the routine before the onset of crap weather and dark days?

    I agree.

For Best Bike under £2500 I’d nominate a Bird Aeris.
The updated MK1.5 came out this year. In a simple but solid spec for maximum bang for your buck. Brilliant to ride for the money. And in orange obviously.

I have a set on my jump bike. Feel a bit plasticy and the lever blade is longer than I’d like, but a perfectly usable brake and staggeringly good for the money.

I have the van with three front seats. You can fit a full sized enduro bike in but the front wheel needs to be at an angle. One on each side will fit easy, a third in the middle will probably need the front wheel removing as there’s no space to put the wheel at an angle because of the angle of the other two front wheels.

Road bikes and short travel XC bikes will go in straight, but enduroer is longererer.

Middle seat is a bit of a crippler, I find I get a bit twisted after a while in it.

I sleep in mine, the front passenger seats fold flat so my legs can go as far as the dashboard.

The bike I ride the most is my £300 commuter. Perfect.

I have this problem. It happens on different wheels on different bikes. I have tried many things including taking the pads out after each ride until I ride again. I end up cleaning the whole lot every couple of weeks. Infuriating.

I’ve never thought about the pad material, I generally run resin so I will put some sintered in and see what happens.

Ah thanks guys. I’ll have a proper look in a bit.

I’ve been round Cannock a couple of times, it’s good riding but I’d rather get out somewhere natural.

Jekkyl I’ll be in Cheadle east of Stoke, do you have any worthwhile routes out that way? I’d quite like to get up around the Roaches, do you know if there is a good loop up there or is it just the obvious ridge along the top? And how bike friendly is it?

I might take you up on the evening ride offer, general bridleway and some tech sounds good, I’ll pack some lights. It’s the last week of September.

I rode some of it last weekend but wasn’t keeping an eye on my phone. It is quite elevated so I think you should be OK.

I’ve got one, it’s great. It climbs well and can descend like a demon. I can’t compare it to similar bikes though as I came from a hardtail. Depending on how you spec it you can get a lot of bike for your money too.

I rub on teatree and witchhazel ointment and they usually go away in a few days. I had a couple after twentyfour12 last weekend, mostly gone now. If you’re continuing riding consider wearing a pair of shorts with a different shaped pad or using a different saddle for a few days to move the pressure points.

I take the same photo every day. It’s the same but it’s always different.

More on Richie Porte: With the worst of the descent behind him, Richie Porte is putting in some hard yards to get back in touch with the yellow jersey group. It seems he suffered the double-whammy of a mechanical and the aforementioned stop to avoid a rider who had hit the deck. His team-mates Damiano Caruso, Marcus Burghardt and Michael Schar wait to help pace him back to the yellow jersey group.

I have already resigned myself to coming last.

Unlikely. Last year’s results show that of the 86 24hr soloists, sixteen didn’t make more than five laps and three only managed one lap.

24hr solo for me and a couple of mates. I rode a team 24 last year but felt like I wasn’t getting enough riding in!
Should be good, although I have developed a swollen knee this week so hopefully that won’t cause problems.
Part of me wants to take it easy and have a nice time, maybe a beer and a snooze, but when it comes down to it I’m sure I’ll be grinding round all night.

I’m hoping to squeeze in a quick 100km on the road whilst waiting for my wife to give birth. I’ll loop back in and see her in the middle.

I used to own a Raleigh Mustang in pink just like that top photo, maybe 20 years ago!

Many reasons but why not show a pic of bike/baby trailer to a none cyclist in your office and ask them if they would or think it’s safe on British roads to do that?

Yes I find it’s always better to take the opinion of someone with no experience of something over those who actually do the activity…

A few of us rode in France last year to follow the Tour for a couple of days. We had a 3 month old with us and she was strapped in a car seat which was in a trailer. We didn’t go for more than an hour or so without stopping for a good break, but she was having a great time. We kept a rider behind the trailer to help with visibility on the roads.

I went one smaller. I’m 6’2 and ride a 58 Genesis Equilibrium, however my Day One is a 56 and that fits me fine. I did a test ride in an LBS.

Wiggle and CRC tend to price match each other so this may not be great news?

I slightly prefer Wiggle. My wife doesn’t mind the purchases so much if I give her the Haribo.
