Similarly, chirospasm tt means nothing to me!

The clue for 15 is quite a nice one

Ah thanks hardtailonly, I couldn’t get that either until you spelled it out!

Ah I give up on 18 across. Two of the words in the clue don’t even make sense!

Also the Swindon one took me ages. I knew the answer but couldn’t get the right order.

    I have one.
    I agree with this

The low BB is a blessing and a curse. Even with 165mm cranks you can get pedal strikes when doing technical climbing, but it feels amazing in terms of handling/berms. It’s worth it for me.

    I wouldn’t change mine.

Er, Rough Stuff Fellowship etc etc. Anyway,
    Happy Friday!
    Great link to King Harold.

I’ve a pair of these. I love wearing them but not a great fan of how they look. I chopped a couple of inches off the laces and knotted them together to replace the oblong joiner bit, much better.

I had some boots too, but again was disappointed by the lack of waterproofness and sold them on.

    Sounds fair to me.

you’re never getting a light on those bars. Trust me, I tried.

There’s a picture immediately underneath that sentence of a light on those bars.

    Take your point though.

I’ve only partially read it so far.
    Enjoyed the science of waterproofing.
Helmet science was interesting but again a little Met heavy – it would have benefited from a discussion as to whether these helmet features are included in competitors ranges.
    Recipes are not for me.
I’ve not read kids’ bikes yet, but will do with some interest.

20% of pieces used to make the upper are made with minimum 50% recycled content

Without knowing which 20% it could be anything between 50% or more of the upper or the square root of sweet, well you can fill the rest in.

Actually this is quite interesting. Any chance STW could go back to them and ask for more detail on the recycled content?

This is brilliant. Bike riding skills are bike riding skills.

Are most wheels actually hand finished? I’m thinking of the biggish more premium MTB brands such as Hope, Hunt, Stans, I would imagine they’ll all just be machine trued and sold out the door.

I’ve had an Exposure RedEye for years, brilliant for winter commuting. Really bright.

I’ve had a set of these for years. Brilliant when it’s definitely raining, not brilliant when it’s not. Mine are getting knackered now and I will be buying another set of the same.

    I agree. Try it?

I carefully rode down quite a long steep and technical washed out bit of coast path yesterday. A walker watched me coming and said “you must be a professional bike rider”. I am not.

And the ‘touch the saddle’ bit is a specific physical sensation that’s easier to track than ‘have your foot down’ or ‘lean’.

This is good. I read this here, practiced it, and it made me a better rider.

Maybe the larger vaccination centres will have seen this more and have a way to work round it.

I was in the same situation, under 40 less than 6 months, went to a big vaccination hub just now and they just waved me through. Sorted.

Good article, and great counterpoint to £12k bike reviews.

Yes I also find ‘acoustic’ very jarring. My thoughts go along the lines of

    Email, acoustic mail

    E-sports, acoustic sports

Personally I don’t find any interest in ebike articles but I do think there is a place for them in the magazine, off road bike riding is a broad church.

I enjoyed the thought-provoking Jamie Hibbard article. I’ve not read all the rest yet.

It advertises value inside. My garage looks tatty but it has a serious ground anchor inside it to lock everything to.

I followed a great route from Jekkyl. In the evening I rode out of Leek, past Longnor and towards Crowdicote to sleep. In the morning a bit of High Peak Trail then some really interesting tracks past quarries and Chrome hill and then some roads back to Leek.
Always worth asking for local knowledge.

Interesting route choice, it seems to wiggle around at random. I’d have thought it would target a more direct north south or have some significant start end points.

Bought a meshy the other day, lovely hat.

Thanks Jekkyl there’s a couple of good possibilities there. I’ll have a look at a map later on and plot up a possible route.

I tend to try and limit my driving to a ride, so riding out of Leek might suit quite well. However, if there is wild and scenic a little further away then it’d probably be worth the drive.

Cutgate looks a little tricky for a loaded gravel bike?

I generally do long rides with pork pies. I’m a bit more vegetarian these days though so I’m experimenting with hard boiled eggs and crisps. Crisps aren’t as packable as pork pies.
I usually put a zero sugar electrolyte tab in my water bottle, a weak mix.
