I built one of these bad boys up into a commuter earlier this year, although it was quite a bit cheaper then!

Rides really well and has mahoosive amount of clearance for big tyres plus mudguards.

    How cheap do you mean?
I’ve had one of these cheapo Muvi copies for about a year. Works OK but battery only lasts about an hour.
For the price it’s been fantastic!

    Some good info here;
    http://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/how_to_store_batteries
For Li-ion batteries store in a cool environment at about 40% charge.
Although probably better to seek expert advice from smudge.

I also use a Miche chainset but the tapers are the same profile as Shimano eg UN54

I use these Miche jobbies on track and fixie bikes. Depends on chainset but most square taper track chainsets use a 107mm axle length.
This Miche one also allows you to adjust the chainline as the lockrings aren’t shouldered.

Or would a Go Pro be much better. Any thoughts.

Start off flat out and then go faster! No time for pacing yourself.
Maintain your speed through the many corners.
But above all have fun and Good Luck.
PS. I’m useless at this cross racing lark!

Wow! That were hot hot hot. Top marks to commissaires- bottles allowed today.
Big field aswell… 200+ starters for the seniors, but the course handled it well.

Yep. Cans are deffo the way to go!

Plus a light sabre handlebar grip of course!

But why? Do you tighten the stem bolts to gargantuan loadings that can crush the steerer!

    Coleman

I find it’s best to set the limit screws before the chain is fitted – much more accurate.

Me no confused! Top caps are ace, and err essential!

No top cap? What are you on!

Went today. Got some cheapo arm and leg warmers to go with my Giordana club kit, but everything else looked naff! Good value granted, but naff.

Use your stem and a pencil to scribe a true line around the steerer and carefully cut with a fine blade hacksaw – what is there to go wrong! 😯

Get yourself a flash titanium Tubus Airy rack. With all that weight in a steel frame you’ll need to save a few grams. 🙂

Heard that also but I never do – looks shite!
‘Slam that stem’ – now where have I heard that?

    Done.

If re-titled I’m sure it would attract more responses!

Perhaps not a race bike but,
Chris Metcalf of team Charge Cycles rode one to a third and fourth place in the first 2 rounds of the Notts/Derby league.
Probably more due to the engine than the bike though!

You should be proud of your daughter. Hope you find her something suitably cool.
A few Dawes on here plus, Pashley’s, Princess, Schwinn etc.

In 30+ years cycling never had a chain go into the wheel. Until….
A couple of years ago during an extremely muddy cross race my perfectly adjusted rear mech did just that! Resulting in a wrecked Ultegra mech, bent hanger, knackered chain and 3 sliced spokes on a Mavic Ksyrium wheel…..Ouch! That was an expensive race.
Still don’t run spoke protectors though! Dumb or what!

    Have a look at pages 9 & 10 in the manual;

Just need the fork bridge to be drilled. As teetos piccie above.
No hole no hanger I’m afraid.

    Coleman

Fork mounted cable hanger! Not all forks are drilled for these.
Set them up right and they work fine.

Are we continuing the horse shite debate now on this thread. 😯

    Coleman

Yeah. Good day’s racing, consumed the best part of a bottle of wine, talked utter bollax on the horse shite thread. So looking good so far. 🙂

Ha! Ha! Shite is shite whether it’s on a bridleway or on a forum!
    Best avoided where possible.

Dog shite is toxic and urban. Horse shite is safe and part of the countryside. Get a life or stick to the trail centres!

    Hi Pyro,
Sorry for delay, just got back from cx race, found them!

Set comprises of 34.9 seat clamp and a 30.9 clamp with bolts and bosses to accept a bottle cage.
Only compatible if your seat post is 30.9 and seat tube is 34.9 – all Epic’s are this I think.
E-mail in profile if they fit / interested.

What a waste! I have a 48 movement diamond bottom bracket. Much more effective. Swiss made aswell!

    Coleman

    Pyro,
I have an 03 Epic and it did indeed come with the bits your after!
Not sure if I can lay my hands on them now, but will look over the weekend if that’s any good. Seatpost is 30.9.
Will mail you if I can find them.
Edit; I think it comprises of the seat tube clamp and another
clamp for the seatpost, both with threaded bosses for the cage bolts.

Will be fine, popped a 105 one in a cross bike a few weeks ago due to the obscene cost of an FSA bottom bracket.

Also a fan of Ritchey components, although usually use their carbon versions, have just built up a new cross bike for No.1 son with a wet black seat post.
Reasonable cost, usual quality finish and at 265g not too heavy for a long fat strong alloy post.

For your height I would have thought a 51cm frame with an effective TT of 53.5 cm would be plenty big enough.
Warning! I have never ridden a Kinesis. I’m 5′ 11″ and have a Giant with a 55.5 cm TT and that feels big to me.

Good Luck. Heavy, no gears, stupid bars. Are you hoping to be competitive or just making a statement!
