A bit of a cheeky plug this, but if you are having trouble finding small size mtb shoes I have a pair of virtually new SixSixOne skate style spd shoes in size 36 (UK3.5 approx) in the classifieds at the moment.

To be honest I just use the basic Decathlon socks, cheap as chips, warm and comfy.
Used to be called RNS50, now rebadged FirstHeat socks but still only £2.99 a pair.

MCTD a Happy New Year to you too.
If you guys are still out Wed. evenings myself and No. 1 son might try and tag along in the new year instead of going to the club sessions. Cheers.

Lots of family Hols in southern Brittany in the Carnac area and in particular at La Trinite staying at Camping de la Baie and sister site Camping de la Plage. We take our caravan but sites also take tents and are adjacent beach. Great for young families, not bad for cycling but we take cross bikes as off road limited although lots of quiet tarmac roads available. We also sail and windsurf so that is our main reason for going to the area. The Carnac area and St Quiberon peninsula seem to have a micro climate generating slightly better weather than the general area.

richpips, hope your lad will like them – just ignore the Government Health Warning on the other side of the box!

Plus one for set up your own scheme. I did a few years ago so not difficult, easy to administer and can chase better deals on bikes.

While I can appreciate concerns of long term damage to growing limbs, I must admit that my son has been using spd’s for racing cross, xc,and road since around 9 or 10. If carefully set up, and bearing in mind the limited time actually wearing them, I thought it was worth the risk as the performance benefit is noticeable. All based on totally non-scientific assumptions of course! He also rides bmx, fixie, and general riding in flatties as they’re cool, to redress the balance.
His first pair of race spd’s were ladies, but the Sidi logo more than compensated for this slight indesretion.
Might have a rummage in the roof tonight and pop them in the classifieds.

Sputnik – Thanks for your words of support. Not really miffed any more, just think it’s a bit sad some people feel the need to interfere in this manner.

Recently started selling a few items in the classified and so far been a pleasant experience for myself and hopefully the purchasers.
Last night my ad attracted what I assume is ‘a spoiler’. I over reacted a little and could get banned for my response, but at the time it annoyed me and seemed a rather cheap trick, not sure we need to rule against this though.

Not sure, but everything a wee bit wider – chain, space between cage arms, space between sprockets etc. All a little bit more mud resistant.

Some of the fast lads in our league revert to bikes with an 8 speed rear set up when conditions get really bad. This is of course in addition to spare bikes, helpers and jet washers in the pit area.

Wow! So much interest in tyres has pursuaded me to pop my snow chains in the classifieds.

It’s still a good reference point for top tube/ stem length on a road bike, but totally irrelevant on today’s slack angle freeride contraptions. 🙂

Yes I’m in a local club (well fairly local). It’s great, we train Wednesday evenings, social rides Sunday mornings, race cross in the winter, organise regular track days, have a really cool junior section with structured coaching sessions and generally have a laugh. Club kit is great – never have to think what to wear!!

While you’re waiting for Derby City Labour councillors to stop playing silly beggars and push the button on the Multi Sports Arena (velodrome) why not give Forest Town Track a whizz:

During the summer months I think they run some coaching sessions on Thursday evenings.

As suggested above the Spa Ti Audax is worth considering. Frameset £850 or complete bike from £1550.

Garmin reckon it will store up to 180 hours of ride data in typical use. So unless your planning on riding over 13hrs each day you should be OK 🙂
