Very cool! Looks like the way forward. One of the rare electronic bits of kit I’d have on the bike.

Thanks Jameso. That sounds promising! Timing works well too.
Will there be an Ramin 6 spec bike with 650b+ wheels (Sus forks, 1×11)?!

    ^^ This.
Some 29ers are fantastic, some are crap. The same thing with 650b. All big players (apart from Giant..) have got 29ers in the range. Big discounts on less popular bikes. Around my way its 95% 29ers.

Anymore news on the 650b+ bike Jameso?

    Thanks for all the input!
I think I’m going to go bike and car.
I’m confident doing all (or most) of the maintenance on the bike. I did everything on the 125 including a clutch change. Surprisingly easy and satisfying. I’ve got the time, space and money at the moment to enjoy toys so I guess a bike is a logical choice.
I’ll then spend the rest on some mundane diesel box- Kia Ceed or something? I need it to be reliable and fairly new.

Yeah, the number of times I’ve been in my car and seen some bikers filtering or overtaking me before heading off into the distance and I’ve just craved it. I did my DAS on the MT-07 and had a 125cc for a year and a bit. There’s not really any cars that can match the feeling of excitement in my budget.

Serious answer- I’m not sure there is good time sell 26” anymore. I’d just put it up at the price you want and wait. Possibly review and knock the price down every so often. The 5 has a solid following in the UK and lots of guys that buy the 5 will ride it year round so they’d buy still them now.

Yeah, stories like that (^) make me think with my head & ignore my heart.

Could also get some sort of Caterham/kit car at a stretch. I’ll have a garage to store the bike or kit car in too.

I’m a single 24 year old and work in IT, so neither a wife nor an estate agent

My heart says bike and car but head says nicer car.

Guess the other question would be what bike.. it would be used for the odd 70 mile commute and then just fun- going to wales, maybe Europe and a track day or two. I’ve only got experience of the MT-07 and that was a lovely bike. Always liked the idea of an R6. Budget for the bike around £5,000.

Had this conversation with a mate the other day.
He’s new to ‘serious’ offroad (anything bigger than canal path). I took him to Bike Park Wales and he had a hoot riding the blue all day. Remarkably fast too for a beginner.

He fancied the red so we took one of the short sections at a slow pace. He was very out of his comfort zone so we stuck to blue for the rest of the day.

Few weeks later I took him to Swinley and I said we’ll do the blue and red loop. He was pretty scared but after riding the loop he commented how the red at Swinley was easier than the blue at BPW.

    Odd grading system.

    tryert –
Here’s a thing..new 5010 has Boost at the rear only until November at which point they will be shipping with Boost both front and rear. I decided to delay my purchase for the sake of a couple of months. Seems like a really odd move from SC (for those that care about these things). Might be a similar story with the new Bronson, not sure.

I’m guessing they’ve got some excess forks to shift. There’ll be some clueless cyclists that’ll buy the bikes with the none boost forks.

I was lucky enough that my parents supported me through my undergrad.
They gave me a credit card with credit limit (forgot how much now) and at the end of the month we’d look at the statement and review my purchases.
Worked well for all involved and taught me how much I’m actually spending and on what. Helped me build up some credit history too.

Can I ask what the point is?

    1. Presumably if you’re found then you’ll be taken to A&E and looked after. When (IF) you make a full recovery you make your way home.
2.If you’re out cold for a while then family will ring around and find you- can’t be many cyclists in ‘X’ area that are missing?
3.If you die then eventually family will ring around and find out (same reason as above).

Whyte G160 Works at bang on £4k. I’ve heard of people getting substantial discounts on this though.
Spec is good, designed for the UK, lots of mud clearance and I love how they ride.

    Great video.
Ratboy just looks like he’s having fun whenever he’s on a bike. He also looks incredibly comfortable on it too.

    Hmm, the websites being odd.
No way to select any other frame sizes and defaults on 21”.
I think I’m going to pop to the local store and see if I can have a bounce.
    With C2W that’s around £800.

Tempted to buy this as a winter FS.. Solid kit and the pivot bearings will probably be generic. They’re offering it on the C2W scheme too.

    ^^ That must be slack.
My stooge is 29er+ front and 29er rear and the front is kicked out a fair bit.
Would love to try that though.
Wheels are just too expensive to buy just to ‘have a go’.

I’m tempted. The mud clearance on my Whyte t129 is horrific.
I can just squeeze a 2.2 MK in there for summer.

I can fit a Medium Whyte T129 29er with the front wheel off in my Fiesta 3 door ’08 with no issue. I can also slot in the Stooge 29er on top with the front wheel off. I’ve also had a 54cm road bike in with both wheels on. I can only assume/hope that the Focus is larger inside!

This BMX with a slick front tyre and nobbly rear.

MTBs existed but I/parents didn’t have the money then so BMX was the logical choice for a 11 year old. I use to ride 40 mile offroad loop on that thing! The Kona was then subsequently bought for me when I was 14- after 3 years on the BMX. I must have cycled thousands of miles on that. I went everywhere on it.

Edit: Sorry about the photo- I took it with a potato/first digital camera

    5’9” and i ran a 70mm stem, 740mm bars on the 18”.
I would say I was comfortable. If I was any taller I’d go bigger though.

    Have I missed the sale?
I can only find the prices the same as they have been for the last few weeks.
    I really want one!

    IT, obviously :P

In all seriousness- a small manufacturer producing a frame from a nice steel with solid forks, groupset, wheels, dropper and finishing kit isn’t bad for £3600.

By comparison my Whyte T129 SCR Works is £3100 for a similar spec with boring ali frame & produced in larger numbers.

Kona Explosif 650b ’13- Loved the look of the raw frame. Had a good spec and the right amount of travel for my XC routes

Pinnacle Arkos 3- Best spec for C2W and looked great.

Stooge- Love the Brand and what Andy did with the simple design/colour/logo.

    Chumba HX2- Cheap frame.

Whyte T129 SCR Works- Impulse. Mixture of a great price, spec and colour.

Oddly I didn’t test ride any of them but I love them all and gel really well with them. I guess I know the general geometry that suits me.

    That looks very nice actually.
My chainring and BB have worn out on my X1 setup (Sram Alloy SRAM X1-1400 GXP). It would be pretty much the same price to get a new bb and chainring as it would be to get this whole crankset. Rather odd.
