  • How Long To Rebuild A Bike? – Back From The Dead

Inbetween, the wide Beaver is actually really cool.

Beaver is the best compromise for me.
The narrow one is good for the “Cut through horrendous mud if you’re riding XC in swamps”. It clears easily and grips nicely, but it’s compromised.

The wide Beaver Exo is actually a really good at “Work in mud and other stuff”, especially as a rear. It clears well and runs very well in mud. It doesn’t cut through as effectivley, but then it’s more durable and can take a battering.

I’d go Beaver 2.25 Exo rear and a Shorty on the front.

ikea 365 – now sadly discontinued

😥 that’s most of my kitchen.

For me it’s my STW Mug. Got it when I first joined the forum many years ago (under a different user name). It’s just the right size for a coffee and to eat muesli breakfast out of too.

Stooge! I would only sell it for another Stooge or Ti Stooge.

Aldworth…won’t worry about reception there, would be more worried about having to tear myself away from The Bell..

That’s why I need signal! Few times I’ve needed picking up when I’ve had one too many of the guest Ales.. or I’ve had to call mates to join me because of the great Ales 😆

Nemesis, I ran a 2.8″ TB on the back during a few XC races in the Winter series. I found it just wouldn’t clear fast enough and it would just build up. This was on both chalky trails and loamy trails.

I’d still stick with Whyte then. Something for road, touring, CX, XC, Street/skate park, Marathon, Trails, Trail centres, Enduro & DH!
    Pretty full garage mind..

I love mine- but I will also be getting a set of 29er wheels for winter.
It’s been great in summer so far. Dusty and rooty trails are great fun. Plenty of grip and comfort on my rigid. I have yet to ride my current setup in serious mud though and I’ve got concerns of running some mud 3.0” with the clearance.

I couldn’t settle on one bike..
I think I’d go for one of each of the Whyte ’17 lineup 😆
Probably still cheaper than 1 dream machine.

In the elevated areas I get 4G with Vodafone 90% of the time. You do get the odd blip of no reception at all, like in Aldworth, despite being fairly elevated.

Bike belonged to a mates Grandad. He bought it from new. Apparently he’d ridden stages of the TDF many times over the years, as well as long rides in the UK. He packed riding in many years ago and it was gathering dust. None of his family wanted it, so I liberated it. It’ll certainly be put to good use.

Frames in okay condition. There’s a couple dents and some corrosion. I wire brushed a few bits and sprayed it. I had to clean off years of filth; road muck and dust. Came up nicely. The odometer is addictive! I can’t work out what units it measures in though. It ticks along nicely, but it’s certainly not in meters.

Whyte! Good guys behind the company with fantastic geometry.
They also emphasize value for money, whereas Orange do not.
Tough powder coat & you can support an LBS too.

Whyte T130 SX: £1700 for the ’16 model with 2×10, or £1900 for the ’17 model with 1×11. Depends on weather you can handle the hot pink.. They are fantastic bikes though. I went from a T129 SCR Works to a T130 RS and couldn’t be happier.

    Bit of closure-
    Tyres were 27×1 1/4
I’ve spent a few pounds replacing cables, chain & brake blocks. Tidied the bar tape and polished the saddle. It’s a hack so I wont be spending anymore on it.

    I’m interested in this. I’ve got a nice set of wheels I’d like to use, but it’s 142 & 100 (Hope Pro4s).

Really nice bike that (apart from gate sizing). Well done Ben!

Looks like modern technology meeting classic design seamlessly, lovely!

Good to see they are keeping to the tradition of releasing a bike with pictures that dont match the spec list. Blutos? odd choice of fork for that bike.

I think the bought all those Blutos from the Amazon PSA the other week.

    Good luck to you Mintyjim!
I but together a business plan for this recently. You could make considerable profit too.

    My assumptions:
    – Hire was based around vans being hired for 18% of the time
    – Buying vans that are 2 years old, running for 2-3 years and selling on
    – Access to a garage with business rates (including helping with the conversion)
    – Fleet of 10 vans (min) of varying size (Caddy maxi to LWB Sprinter type)
    – Hiring 1 staff to run the day-to-day at around £22k, leaving me to do very little to keep the cogs turning

It’s certainly a viable business that could thrive. Sadly the large CAPEX meant that I couldn’t go forward with the idea. If your circumstances allow, you could start small and scale as and when.

If you need any help with numbers or ideas, ping me an email; cokie.stw@gmail.com

Can’t stand the shoots. I live in very rural countryside- nearest pub is miles away, mostly singletrack lanes with lots of fords, so no, I’m not a Townie.

They turn up annually and churn up the countryside with their unsuitable 4x4s before commencing with their bloodbath. They shoot next to roads and village and often scare the local animals- dogs, cows & sheep. Once they’ve cleared off they leave plenty of empty cartridges around and ruts everywhere. The gamekeepers seem to hate anyone else using the countryside. I’ve been chased for using a bridleway on the bike and they’ve put fences for pheasant up blocking rights of way. The whole business hasn’t contributed anything to our local community, despite them taking up a fair chunk of land.

I can’t for the life of me see the pleasure in murdering something that is thick, slow and easy to shoot. A few pages back, someone commented 10 guns and 800 birds, that’s 80 birds per shooter.. I know they are portly gentlemen, but there is no way they are eating 80 birds each. The local pubs don’t sever much game at all, so I find it hard to see how it all gets eaten, particularly when it’s been peppered with a shotgun at 10ft.

Love the patronizing ‘slow down’ marshals at the end. There’s about 8 of them!

Looks slippery! I bet Brazil re-tarmacked some of the roads & put new markings down which probably doesn’t help.

Monkie, learning to ride is pretty important. This year alone I’ve been on 6 or 7 social rides with youth clubs, friends & charity. All abilities attended, but they could all ride. I would hate for my child to miss out on these experiences. It’s also a useful skill to have for fitness, balance, commuting & even a bit of tourism/sight seeing.

Interesting that most people are lusting after non mountain bikes just now…

Obviously! This is STW after all..

Lovely Trek. The ST is huge though, looks about twice the width of the HT.

Some small pincer snips 14 years ago, very useful for cutting cable ties

    Hang on.. That’s cheating!

That would be £1.49 in today’s money. Of course they would be superior quality!

Best: iPhone 6s case- emergency purchase and protected the phone well whilst I waited for the otterbox to arrive.

Worst: Headphones- sounded like I was trying to listen to music next door through the wall, then one ear broke and then the second kept cutting out. This was after 2 minutes use. Died after 3 minutes, because I got very angry.

Sad that lots of these amazing stories only come to light when there’s been a tragedy.

Incredible effort by the Pilot & team, shame it went wrong.

Back seats folded- Full sus 29er with front wheel off and rear wheel on fits in. Drivers seat half back and passanger seat almost fully back. This is in the Polo 6c, so current shape.
