    Looks good!
Which Geometron did you go for?

    GOOD TO KNOW KIMBERS, THANKS.

Looking at the trails, should be able to fit in 2(possibly 3) on Saturday at Afan, then 3 trails at Cwmcarn Sunday.

Trails look much smaller (length & ascent) at Cwmcarn than Afan?

    Sounds good to me, cheers!
Some armored trails would make a nice change from the natural trails.

    Excellent, thanks all.
Trying to work out what to do..

    Was thinking:
    Saturday- Afan
Evening- Air Bnb or cheap hotel (somewhere between the two).
    Sunday- Cwmcarn

Would it be worth just riding Afan for 2 days, or Cwmcarn?

Very nice! Is that one of the Cotic complete builds?
Just curious, why the 2×10? Do you need the range for local trails?

I had a ’15 T129 SCR Works and loved it. It was my first 29er FS and it fitted like a glove. It just felt right. I covered most disciplines on the bike; marathons, XC races, Uplift days, trail centers and more. Never had an issue with it.

I decided to swap to the T130 RS for a change. Whilst the T129 is marvelous, it can also be a bit cumbersome with the bigger wheels in tight switchbacks. It also monstered down descents and wasn’t that nimble. I just felt that the 650b might make it more playful and fun.

I’m not disappointed at at all, the t130 does everything the T129 does, but with more bias towards descending and playing. I upped the travel to 140mm and am perfectly happy with that.

I’d say T129 for a more XC biased bike, and T130 for more aggressive riding. That said, both are cracking bikes!

+1 ajantom- I use the Castrol Multi Purpose Grease, linked above. Cheap, good quality and lasts ages. I’ve always used it to pack bearings and other maintenance. Never had an issue with it and it’s waterproof.

There must be an update… 😀

I did that with boiling milk. I tripped and the cup with boiling milk sloshed and splashed my hand. It was the worst paint I’ve ever had. Didn’t matter how much I cooled it, it just carried on ‘burning’.
Still have the scars on my hand in the splash shapes.

I feel your pain! I can’t imagine having a whole hand burned.

When I had my ’15 T129 SCR I ran the 2.2 Beaver. I really rate the tyre. Cuts nicely through mud and clears well. Casing is also really robust and setting up tubeless was easy. Tyre clearance was actually really good too.

I actually ended up running the tyre into summer too, because it was pretty good on dusty trails. It’s limited by hardpack, but then if you’ve got a good front tyre, that will mitigate it a bit.

An update from Mr Stooge on the upcoming Mk3

seeing as you asked, here’s a little info on the MK3. First off, they’re being made at the moment, i’d like to say 3 months away but these things have a habit of dragging out a little. So, 2 sizes – the current size with a 18″ seat-tube and a 23.5″ top tube, and a 20″ with a 24.8″ ETT and slightly taller headtube. 44mm headtube, tapered steerer steel fork, 15mm shorter chainstays (430mm + or – 7mm due to EBB), fatter downtube, slightly fatter top tubes. I’ve stuck with a 27.2 post because of the comfort, plus there are plenty of 27.2 droppers available now. This new one is optimised around B+ because i love the way it rides, but you can still run 29 rear/29+ front if you want.

Why a 44mm headtube? Couple of reasons really, a lot of people wanted to run a carbon fork on their MK2’s but couldn’t, and the axle to crown of the fork is the same as a sagged 120mm B fork or a 100mm 29er, so if you really wanted to you could.

This very nearly didn’t happen because of Brexit and the weak pound, it’s added a huge amount to the bill compared to the MK2 so the price is going to have to rise i’m afraid, but it’ll still be cheaper than anything else out there. I think its going to be a rad bike in some very splendid colours, though i do need to keep some secrets until the frames drop

I thought i’d post it here too, as it’s essentially the Stooge Bible.

    Good fun for a day out;
    – short tracks (max about 3 mins)
    – not difficult (chicken runs available too)
    – friendly staff (apart from some uplift drivers)
    – cracking Cafe
    – it’s really nothing like other trail centers/uplifts
    – indoor pump track & dirt jumps are alright

If you don’t build it up to be BPW and just go for a laugh, then it’s good fun. Something available for complete novices and experienced riders.

Oh boy! Best of both worlds, Andy.
Congratulations on what I think is a blend of what I wanted.
Best of luck. I’ll certainly be in contact when these are out.
    Will you be doing pre-orders?

I’d like to see a couple new models, rather than just 1.
    1) Mk3: Very little change- Lighter, more reach & slacker HA, 2 sizes.
    2) Trail frame: A nod to the original, but 44mm HA, designed around 120-130mm fork, 30.9mm seatpost, longer & slacker. 2-3 sizes.

    I’d buy one of each.

He said this above your comments.

UK origin is important to me

I think your only Hope (eh, eh..) is to wait for the Hopes to be released.
Lots of UK brands producing bars, but none are of UK origin.

How about bars from another UK company?
Burgtec to the RideWide in Alu and Carbon.
See here[/url], lots of other lovely bits on their site too.

BG- I was looking at the bike and had the same question, so asked Mboy (Whyte dealer).

No chance you’ll get a 3″ 650+ tyre in there. Stays are curved quite heavily, 2.3″ 29er tyre fits ok in the 2017 version with clearance, but doubt very much you’d get any big B+ rubber in there. Besides, BB is VERY low… Lowering it further with B+ tyres would probably make it unrideable on anything other than the smoothest of surfaces

I did this same experience last year. We had an awesome time!
One thing to note is to save energy for the BMXing. You won’t believe how tiring it is, especially after racing mates on the Velodrome.
We went with a mixed bunch of ability rides- some race often, and others struggle on the Boris bike. We were all catered for though by the same instructor. I was surprised how well it worked.
Looking to go back and just doing the BMXing

I went to buy some party food for a New Year party. I found a whole aisle of Easter Eggs in our Tesco. I got a few just for a laugh.

    Whyte 529/629 looks good actually!
    66.5′ HA, 449 reach, 440 CS. That’s with a 120mm fork.
I reckon a 1-2′ slackset could make it rather nice, maybe with a 130mm fork.
None of the specs are particularly exciting, but plenty of scope to upgrade on the solid geometry.

450mm reach on the medium Honza ’17! The rest of geometry looks good, but only 68′ headangle. Would have liked 64-65′ headangle for it to be perfect.

Old towel to cover windscreen and side windows. Peel off, place in bag & hide behind the gate. Drive off. Done.

Repeat and once frost stops, throw the towels away or wash and use for garage duties.

Was just on live chat to find out the status of my order. Out of stock in the Warehouse, so they are looking for stock in stores. No ETA. So I just cancelled the order. All I supplied was a order #, no name, real email or anything else. Crazy that they just accepted that as a cancellation request without confirming any details.

There’s a reason why the Whyte is regarded so highly, where as the Cube rarely, if ever, gets mentioned.

FWIW, I love my T130 RS (so heavier than the C) and couldn’t be happier. Can’t say I have ever noticed the bike being heavy, and certainly doesn’t ride that way. As above, weight isn’t everything, especially for trail bikes. A sorted geometry and component choice is much more important- both of which the Whyte has in spades.

I’m thinking of a similar plan..
What do people do with MTB brake levers on the drops? Can I run these or do I need the roadie type? Don’t really want to to buy different brakes just for testing drops

SSS, what’s wrong? You always seem to have a dig at Mboy?!
I know a few people running these without issues all year round, including a couple members here. I do worry about the stories you hear, but if you have a good Lbs relationship that should solve any anxieties.

Got to be the Whyte T130 RS at your budget.
Heck of a bike. I came from a ’15 Whyte T129 SCR Works to the ’16 T130 RS and I couldn’t be happier. I’ve not noticed any real difference in climbing or XC type riding, but on descents and playing, the T130 is leagues ahead. It’s so much more nimble! Changes: 800mm Burgtec bars, 140mm airshaft & tubeless.

sq225917 – It’s almost the same as the OO DeeDar, just a little higher at the front and that fits me perfectly.

Oh really? Is it the perfect blend of vertically compliment and laterally stiff? I assume the 650b makes the trail come alive too. I love these unbiased cycle reviews.

Hmm, also disappointed if that really is the reach.
Might have to reconsider the LAST instead.
Shame, as I really like Pace and would prefer to support the UK brand.

    I’m so tempted..
I’ve got a set of 650b+ wheels & 29er wheels in 142mm sitting here.. plus some other bits.

I’ll ping an email over to confirm hub spacing first I think.

    Good spot!
Very modern geometry, especially when you stick the 29er wheels in it.
Similar to the Last Forward V2. Very competitive price too. Lovely!

What on earth does ‘Out back there’s room for a 142mm boosted hub’ mean? Is it 142mm or 148mm?
