It’ll be your next eye soon, then she’s got you incapacitated and can strike her final lethal blow with ease..

My GF managed to stick her finger up my nose knuckle deep when we were sleeping. Soft tissue plus her nail didn’t end well. It certainly woke me up.

You went to all the effort of finding an orange Whyte stem to match, yet no orange highlights on the saddle! You must try harder.

Stooge is like a big BMX. Running 650b+, but they measure up taller than the 29ers. If rigid doesn’t take your fancy, the Stooge Mk3 will have a 44mm Headtube for sus forks. Lots of other 29er HTs on the market that are playful; Canfield EPO or YS, Division Zealous, etc.

Here’s one in action without brakes and on SPDs. In the wild it is very good. Wheel size certainly doesn’t hold it back. I’ve been to skate parks, pump tracks and more on it mid ride. Great fun.

The 29er FS market has plenty of playful choices too. I had a T129 SCR Works that was fantastic. I did find it more difficult to ride in tight switchback and it wasn’t as fun to jump as my T130.

the stooge looks a right laugh and would be mental with a 120mm bluto on given the way stooge usually ride

    Like this one Tazzy 8)

Yeah, I’ve seen numerous edits that have cheeky trail content.
I’ve also seen maps at LBSs that show loops mostly made up of footpaths.
More often that not they haven’t had permission to ride it either..
    > Chris Akrigg in the Mongoose edit
    > Ratboy on that persons wall.

I can see it from both sides but ultimately the red socks/ NIMBYs/ other organizations need to be happy or we lose access and any future relationship is out, which means not advertising these sites to the masses.

These photos have been floating around for a while- looks fantastic.
Glad Andy has put it out for pre-order.

    Molegrips, the new Stooge will have some of the features from the fatty;

So, 2 sizes – the current size with a 18″ seat-tube and a 23.5″ top tube, and a 20″ with a 24.8″ ETT and slightly taller headtube. 44mm headtube, tapered steerer steel fork, 15mm shorter chainstays (430mm + or – 7mm due to EBB), fatter downtube, slightly fatter top tubes. I’ve stuck with a 27.2 post because of the comfort, plus there are plenty of 27.2 droppers available now. This new one is optimised around B+ because i love the way it rides, but you can still run 29 rear/29+ front if you want.

Why a 44mm headtube? Couple of reasons really, a lot of people wanted to run a carbon fork on their MK2’s but couldn’t, and the axle to crown of the fork is the same as a sagged 120mm B fork or a 100mm 29er, so if you really wanted to you could.

You can run the Fox 36 at 100mm.
Not sure you can get stiffer than that.

Pike DJ 100mm exists, but not in 29” form so not entirely sure whether internals/air shaft will allow the reductions to 100mm on the 29” chassis.

Love these bikes and the colour’s perfect too.
I was so so close to buying one but didn’t like the spec.
When will Whyte offer frame only 🙁

Big shout out to Mark(mboy) for dropping it off to me. Been really helpful and has a decent shop too.

This! He’s always been great to deal with. He’s incredibly knowledgeable too.

    Some awesome resources posted above!
I’ve always wanted to find out the history of my area.
Although my house is only 20 years old, it’s built on an old railway station and the entire railway line has now disappeared! That’s Didcot, Newbury and Southampton Railway that closed in 1964. The photos and maps online are incredible to see. I could spend weeks pouring over them.

    I’m similar.
    What works for me is;
    – Drink lots of fluid. I always have a bottle and drink that when I sense I want to eat.
    – Chewing gum. I found that it keeps my mouth busy and tends to satisfy the craving.
    – Get up and walk/cycle/move.

Great info, cheers Monkeyboy & everyone else!
I’ll take MBs route then. Do you find the clamp secure enough? Does the one bolt not want to make the shifter rotate?

If you’re looking to get rid, I’ll take the Lovemud bombers off you? Might be interested in your Canecreeks too, though was looking at the black version.

    Thanks all! Very helpful comments.
Yeah, it’s the mtb gears I’ll struggle with. £40 is a fair bit of money for troubleshooting the issue. I might be able to run SRAM GX instead of XT if there’s

Monkeyboy- any chance you could post up how you made the shifter adapter?

Fudge- interested in your build plans. I’m looking at building up a Vagabond too.
Is there any differences between the ’16, ’17 & ’18 (alluded to in your post) frames? Other than colour, of course.

So does the bin lorry weigh each pick-up it makes?
I believe it is weighed as it leaves and then when it returns to the landfill site so the weight of rubbish is known each time it is emptied. It was apparently only carrying 15KG or so I belive that night which does on the face of it seem implausibly low but I believe it’s systems were checked and found to be working. It doesn’t of course rule out a one off fault.

Just curious- if they are using a weighbridge, then it ignores a number of factors, correct?
    I.e.-
How much fuel did the lorry use during the trip? How many people where in the lorry at the beginning vs. the end? Did the spare tyre (?) fall off? Did the washer fluid bottle split, or was lots of washer fluid used?

He probably weighed 70-80kg? So could be quite easy to compensate that weight with a variety of factors that would make the 15kg look incorrectly possible. Stranger things have happened..

    On my car

    On mix of B-A-M roads;
    Without: 45-50
    W. rack (unloaded): 40-43
    W. rack (loaded- 2 bikes): 35-37

    Longer A-M road stints;
    Without: 47-52
    W. rack (unloaded): 39-42
    W. rack (loaded- 2 bikes): 34-38

Interestingly, there doesn’t seem to be a difference between 1 or 2 bikes on the roof, or different types of bike.

As above, they always do it.
I’ve made 4 orders for bits they didn’t have in stock. Each time I had to chase them to find out the status. Never again.

Depends how you approach the problem- if I use gravel then yes, it’s the holding wall/lip that I’d need to create, but if I use tarmac, concrete or other solid material then the issue is between the road and gravel.

    cokie

Possibly not- any idea what the cost would be?

    Open to any suggestions!
Is there a way DYI-ing tarmac? I’ve not got a roller, etc.
Also not sure how durable it is. The tarmac that’s there is broken up.

    Thanks for the advice.
It’s going to be a pig removing what’s currently there to level it out.
Just to confirm- gravel is migrating down the drive, not on the road/footpath.

Although ugly, isn’t the quick set concrete a good long term solution?

    Should update this..
Had an awesome time at the trails on the weekend. Everything went to plan and the weather was superb. No mud at all as it was all frozen. Trails were really quiet and well armored too.

gaberin- when I went, Twrch still had the diversion in place.

Whitestone, I remember reading that before the election.

    Meeting Donald Trump

Some years ago, Mr Trump invited me to lunch for a one-to-one meeting at his apartment in Manhattan. We had not met before and I accepted. Even before the starters arrived he began telling me about how he had asked a number of people for help after his latest bankruptcy and how five of them were unwilling to help. He told me he was going to spend the rest of his life destroying these five people.

He didn’t speak about anything else and I found it very bizarre. I told him I didn’t think it was the best way of spending his life. I said it was going to eat him up, and do more damage to him than them. There must be more constructive ways to spend the rest of your life. (Hopefully my advice didn’t lead to him running for President!)

I was baffled why he had invited me to lunch solely to tell me this. For a moment, I even wondered if he was going to ask me for financial help. If he had, I would have become the sixth person on his list!

I left the lunch feeling disturbed and saddened by what I’d heard. There are a lot of frightening things about this election; not least that policy has been pushed so far down the agenda. What concerns me most, based upon my personal experiences with Donald Trump, is his vindictive streak, which could be so dangerous if he got into the White House. For somebody who is running to be the leader of the free world to be so wrapped up in himself, rather than concerned with global issues, is very worrying.

I found knards awful on anything but dry trails.
Try some chunkier rubber for winter and put the knards back on in summer.
I found my 29er+ (& 650b+) saved me a few times on the trails with the additional traction.

What happens if you fully submerged the full d2i system? Is it completely waterproof?

I’ve seen various videos where they fully submerge bikes underwater- such as Martyn Ashton’s Roadbike party.
    Road Bike Party vid HERE
    The bike video HERE

I’ve also seen countless CX riders hammering their Di2 equipped bikes through the muddy, wet & gritty CX season without any issues.

I’m eyeing up the XT Di2 too. Some reasonably priced kits out there for 1×11. Pretty much the same price as Sram Eagle 1×12, just add a £59 cassette to the XT setup..

Interesting! I’d certainly like to visit a mosque. I’ve always wanted to talk to a Muslim to understand their ethics and beliefs (along with Jews & other religions).

I do think it’s odd that only 100 mosques/Islamic centres are opening their doors nationally though. I drive past a few on my commute, yet only one is open in the whole city and many cities have chosen not to open their door at all.

The complete build actually looks quite good!
I think the only thing I’d change is the wheelset, as discussed above.
It’s an odd choice to spec some run of the mill MTB hubs, when there’s the Zerode specific one. I assume Stif get the frame only and don’t want to be building up a rear wheel around the Zerode hub.

At that price, I’d hope there’s some flexibility from Stif.
I’d probably go for the full build minus the wheelset, then buy the Zerode hub and get a custom set built up.

Another vote for Fox Launch kneed pads.
I bought them through necessity at BPW as I forgot mine.
They where the only option there at the time.
So glad I did! Comfiest pair I’ve ever worn. They are pretty durable too. I never wear my old 661 things anymore.

There’s a couple nice spots between Compton and Blewberry.
Quiet, secluded and nicely elevated. There’s an option of wooded or small clearing. The spot drains fairly well too.
If I wasn’t so local, I’d go bivi there.

There’s also a couple places near Wantage that I’ve been told are good, and you are actually allowed to bivi there.

If you want any of the location info, drop me an email.

I’ve got a good one, but won’t share it on a public forum.
My first name and two middle names rhyme.
My Brothers name also rhymes with mine, and one of his middle names also rhymes..

Other good ones certain Nigerian, Middle east & Asian names.
All good ones are too rude for the forum sadly.

    So, pointless post then.

    Honestly – don’t eat unless you have;
    1) not eaten for at least two/three/four hours (delete as appropriate)

    I don’t agree with this.
It all depends what you eat and the quantities you eat.
Theoretically we should be having 6 small meals a day, alongside snacks.
You’re fine to be eating more often if it’s salad/vegetables and some fruit.

I’d use MyFitnessPal and count calories if you’re concerned. Nothing wrong with that Twix, etc., if it fits in nutritionally/calorifically.

    Worth isolating a few factors to work out what it is;
    1. Body position- are you knees and arms bent?
    2. Grip- are you holding on for dear life with arms/thighs? Might be that your holding the grips tight, which is tensing your shoulders & arms and thus not doing their bit (I.e.- #1).
    3. Are the forks/shocks- are they working correctly? Using all their travel?
    4. Tyre pressure- what pressure are your tyres? Never under estimate how much of a difference a lower tyre pressure can make.

Sounds like it was a good event this year with great conditions!
I really fancy it next year.

For a bit of context, what’s the course like? Technical bits? Total ascent? Undulating or some larger climbs and descents?
