    Thanks for all the help.
Big thanks to Stoner too for explaining it to me.

Still none the wiser on the second ‘Monthly budget’ formula..

How does the formula look for that Gonefishin please?
I think that may be the issue.. possibly rounded too, given the low figures.

    EDIT: Awesome! Thank you.
Just having a look now. I know its small, but there’s still a discrepancy in your figures. Where does that come from, given that you’ve included decimal places? I’m trying to avoid the client testing the online tool and finding the discrepancy.

I’ve had 2 frames and numerous parts from them. Always spot on to deal with- fast responses and good discussions. They’re not a massive outfit, so I guess responses might be slow if they’re out & about.

    Exercise is exercise.

I’d prefer to do it on a bike on my terms, not in an artificially lit warehouse dodging screaming kids with marketing being forced down my throat. Plus I don’t need the exercise.

It’s debt tho. Surely most people own their cars?

Nope, nope, nope and nope. It’s scary how many cars are in secured/unsecured debt. There’s also the ‘leasing’ debt on top of this in car ownership. 55 page thread and running on Pistonheads on this.

i know some folk on seriously good wages that have frighteningly high debt levels.

Agreed, I’ve got friends earning more than me, but they’ve over stretched the mortgage and finance expensive cars (and holidays) who are in huge debts. A recent friend had their brand new VW Touran reclaimed on failing payments just 4 months in. Keeping up with the Jonses, showing off their ‘success’ and the instant gratification economy.

A friend on Facebook rented a Lambo Huracan with the usual hashtags claiming to have worked hard for it. Turns out it’s a rental and cost £5k for the week, all on a loan.. 😯

Can’t stand ’em. Especially the massive ones where you end up walking about 2 miles to pick up 5 things. Aldi and Lidl- done in about 3 minutes. Tesco and the other monsters take forever to navigate. There’s never staff and the choice is ridiculous. Capitalist consumerism at it’s peak. Don’t even get me started on the packaging.

Yesterday it took me about 10 minutes to find the humus in Tesco, and it was between the processed meats and ready meals.. where’s the sense in that!

    I’m a 20 something going on 50 😆

Interesting.. surely that’s quite easy to achieve, and exceed, if you have 2 (or even 1) car(s) in the household. A couple good cars could easily set you back £13k, plus the associated running costs on top. That ignores mortgage, house bork & children.

Yeah, it’s relatively low mileage but there’s a nice lip on the disc and I can see a few MM on the pads. Need to get the wheel off to inspect.
Nothing stopping me from buying the bits and doing it later anyway.
It passed it’s MOT 1 1/2 months ago when I bought it.

Garage came back with a lower quote of £235. Tools, parts & extras come to £170.. so only a saving of £65, but then I have the tools for other jobs making the changing of consumables cheaper in future.

I bought the Fiesta to be a cheap run around, so glad it’s straightforward 🙂 !

The rears are drums though, which appears to be a whole different ball game. Just about to collect it after 2 new front tyres and tracking too.

Will check some videos and finalize my order. Will also check Carpart4less, cheers PDW.

Luckily it’s the good old manual handbrake.

If i’m not getting under the car, then the trolley jack should be enough..(?)

Great stuff! Thanks for all the replies.
Euro car parts have a huge discount; £116 for 2x discs, pads, axle stands and copper grease.
Readings suggest you don’t have to wind front calipers in?

Question- ratchet axle stands or trolley jack?

    Great, thanks.
Seems to be pretty straight forward. Saturday job I would guess.
Just need a set of axle stands and whatever specific tools I need.

Also, what finish is it? Anodized?

Also, found the carbon RS version HERE

Can’t find the Works version though.

Nobeerinthefridge- never said it wasn’t. Just pointing out that it’s a medium gauge rim size and trail trail, so the scope for wider heavy duty rim and tyre combos might not be possible.

Edit: I see they’re running Minion SS in the image above.. why not spec that OEM?

S stands for Switch – the ability to fit 650b wheels with 2.8″ tyres and still have UK levels mud clearance. For 2018 Whyte will launch wheel kits that are ready to switch into your bike in the time it takes to go back to your car and change the Eagle cassette.

    Interesting.. I like that.

The bit that concerns me is that in 29er mode it’s speced with-

Rear- Maxxis Crossmark II TR, 29″ X 2.25″

That is a small XC/Trail tyre and ‘only’ on a 29mm rim. Not something i’d like to run on a 150mm AM/Enduro bike. Does that mean there’s some clearance issues? I really want to have a go on this though. Also, love the colours.

If there’s no extra cost, go 118.
You’ll get an extra bit of spare chain for emergencies.

I did the same when I was at uni.
Worked my arse off on a Saturday shift running the food out and clearing up for about 8hrs. They were upfront and said it was a trial with no pay. At the end I was told they liked me and would give me a call. I got a call the next day and offered a full time job for the summer (sadly broke my elbow the same day so couldn’t do it 😥 ).

Or go ‘ghetto’ tubeless? I’ve done that on a few none tubeless wheels without issues.

I had this exact same injury from an OTB about 7 years ago. Dropped about 8ft onto my hands. Knocked me off the bike for the summer- probably 8 weeks all in?

Anyway, being young I did as many exercises as possible and generally got on with life and back on the bike. After about 2 weeks it ‘loosened’ up quite well. I had huge amounts of pain though.

A few month later I got 90% of rotation back and about 60% extension, but the pain was bad. I had a steroid injection in the joint. NEVER again. It was horrible. It did help for a few years though.

Over the last few years my joint is now very crunchy and heavy lifting in the gym sounds horrific, so trying to avoid it wearing away my cartilage. My rotation is back to normal but I’m missing about 20 degrees of extension. I also find it locks when being held in a bent position for more than 2 or so minutes (i.e.- holding mobile to my ear). I have to use my other arms to physically force it straight and it bloody hurts.

Ultimately I forget it happens 98% of the time. Hopefully you’ll have an even better result 🙂

That Syncros Dropper 2.0 Post is the exact same post down to the packaging as the Brand-X Ascend and Tranz-x post, except you can pick them for £100 (as apposed to the £180 from Syncro). Leaver looks different though.

With it being a UK handbuilt frame, I’d be suprised if they wouldn’t let you add a few CM to the ST and move that SS & TT junction up a bit.

I don’t think it’s helped by the fact they seem to be running a BMX/jump bike saddle. That wouldn’t be comfy to sit on for a longany climb.

Edit: this frames on Kickstarter (HERE) looks nice. Geo not as radical, but only 500 euros.

    Looks like a DJ frame.
The ST/TT junction is far too low aesthetically. I also wonder if the ST is too short to run a dropper fully extended without exceeding the minimum insertion..

Good price though and would love to have a go.

there’s a 2014 Fiesta ST, which is what I actually wanted originally, for £6,400 that I’ve seen.

    Eh? Surely that’s wrong. Even a ’14 St(1) is at least £10,000.
The ones below this are all cat c/d or stolen recovered, so I wouldn’t touch those.

    Fork: Lefty Olaf
    Bars: Jones loop

Bar mirrors for checking beard awesomeness
Gears: XX1 Eagle – just because and for the goldness

Details look promising for this then.
Big monster truck type bike that will no doubt be good value.
I’d no doubt get one if I lived somewhere less flat.

Brooks set up is interesting.. 760mm bars even though he’s 185cm and riding Enduros (no bad thing, just an observation). Fork setup is 71 psi, 4 tokens and low speed compression open- this should allow the fork to ramp up nicely, but surely that doesn’t equal ‘firm and racy’ until half way through the travel/big hits?

Lots of space in the triangle to attach a small essentials bag.
What size is that frame? Good tyre clearance?

I’ve got an M2- comfy, but bloody big both in fitting and visually. Loads of protection to the lower part of the back of the head- more than my TLD A1 and Mavic.

I think the angle and shoe size don’t complement the design in the photos 😯

I like them providing they look less like a narrow boat in real life. The lased version would suit me nicely as a summer shoe. My current pair of SPD Am45s have lasted for years. I welcome a pair that dry quicker though!

For those stressing about the MOT..
Once the car is in the garage you can periodically check this site; https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-history

    It’ll update instantly once it’s officially passed/failed it’s test.
My last 2 MOTs have passed and I could see the result 2 hours before the garage called. If it fails you can start making plans/provisions as you can see failures & advisories.

After wheels, forks are a good one.
I find the front end more maneuverable & ‘fun’ when I’ve got a lighter fork. There’s a limit there though- you don’t want to go too far and end up with something noodly and flexy.

I just feel a nob riding flat ground on a full susser

Who cares! You’re an adult on a bike.. it doesn’t matter if it’s a Brompton or a V10. No one cares what it is. People will only react if you ride like a nob. Ride courteously and you’ll blend into the scenery.

If the Scott is overkill in the sense that it’s dulling the whole experience, then a HT can be good or possibly a short travel FS. If you enjoy riding the Scott, then keep it!

The Ragley looks good but there’s lots of other bikes out there with a better spec and weight, such as the Bird Zero TR/AM.

Edit: Like Weeksy, I’ve got a T130 and love riding it on all types of trails.

I’ve done about 500 miles on my 529 now and really enjoy it!
I’d say that for my local loops across the downs, in the woods and along the canals it’s ace. Nice and light with great rollover from the 29er wheels and good geometry to make the descents fun.

At Swinley I always take the T130 though. Whilst rideable on the HT, it’s more comfortable and quicker on the FS. I think it’s the rock hard polished surface that can become tiring. Plus, the FS makes the off track descents more fun.

I would suggest you just need to ride some different local trails! As offered, come join me out on the Ridgeway. We can take a low elevation bimble on a variety of trails. Feel free to try my T130 (though it’s a Medium). You’re not far from some great natural trails that you can infinitely loop to create huge diverse rides, you don’t have to drive 1hr to a trail center to get your kicks.

I used to have the T129 and it’s a great bike, but the HT is still the better tool for local loops (hell, even my SS rigid Stooge was better locally). As a one bike solutions the T129 is great though, otherwise a two bike garage would be perfect (529 & T129/130) to cover all riding and weather (you don’t want to take the FS out on every gritty winter ride, or maybe you do).

I’ve got a set of the blue ones last summer for a similar price.
I’m happy with them! Only used for bike tools and have had no issues.
Everything still working correctly and look like new. For an amateur spannerer, why do you need more?!
